It appears from various records that Elizabeth Waddy married David Thompson, son of Robert Thompson "I" of New Kent Co., VA (Robert was born in the 1600s). It also appears that a second/younger David Thompson, son of Robert Thompson "II" (and brother of Robert Thompson "III") married Catherine "Caty" Waddy. Both Waddy women are shown as daughters of Anthony Waddy. I believe that David and Elizabeth Waddy had a son named Waddy Thompson, and he may have been the Waddy Thompson who married Elizabeth Anderson (and who had a son named Nelson Thompson).
Note: Robert Thompson "III," who died in Amherst Co., VA aorund 1788, also had a son named Nelson Thompson via his second wife Catherine Hammock. Robert "III's" children via Catherine may have left VA since their father left them over 1,400 acres in KY at his death. Robert "III's" children via his first wife Patience seem to have settled in Cumberland Co., VA; these children included a Bartlett Thompson, Senior (married a Hatcher) and a Robert Thompson "IV" (married a Lesuere).
The second David Thompson and his apparent wife Caty Waddy had 6 children, per his 1769 Albemarle Co., VA will, but the children were not named therein. It appears that one of their sons was James Thompson (who married a Mary.....possibly Mary Anderson). They may also have had another son in Albemarle Co., VA named Charles W. (Waddy?) Thompson (born in the 1750s) who married Agnes Wood.
There was a Samuel Thompson in Amelia Co., VA. He married Ann Jennings, and one of their sons was also named Waddy Thompson (who eventually went to KY). I can only assume that he was named "Waddy" because of some relationship between Samuel Thompson's family and Robert Thompson's family. One record suggests that this Samuel Thompson might have been a nephew of the first/oldest Waddy Thompson (note: it appears that all of the children of the first/older David Thompson and his wife Elizabeth Waddy are not proven).
There are some records in Hanover/Louisa Co., VA about a John Waddy (whose grandfather was Anthony Waddy, so John must have been a brother to Elizabeth and Caty Waddy), and a Waddy Thompson and a Nelson Thompson were executors of John Waddy's 1775 will. John Waddy had married Jane Cobbs, daughter of Samuel Cobbs, in 1775, and Waddy Thompson provided security for that marriage. It looks like John Waddy had a brother named Samuel Waddy, Junior, and "Junior's" will in 1779 was witnessed and/or executed by a Nelson Thompson and a Charles Thompson. The above implies that a Samuel Waddy was probably the father of John Waddy, Samuel Waddy, Jr., Elizabeth Waddy and Catherine "Caty" Waddy. Charles Thompson and Nelson Thompson may have been brothers, both sons of Waddy Thompson, but that is just a guess at this point. Conversely, this Charles Thompson could have been the Charles W. Thompson out of Albemarle Co., VA (who married Agnes Wood). More research is needed to see if these were two separate Charles Thompsons
It appears from the above that the family of the first/older David Thompson (who married Elizabeth Waddy) eventually lived in the Hanover and Louisa Co., VA area. The second/younger David (who married Caty Waddy), however, lived in Albemarle Co., VA. It appears that a member from each of these two branches of this family may have married an Anderson women (Elizabeth, who married Waddy Thompson, and Mary, who married James Thompson, likely son of the second/younger David Thompson of Albemarle). There was a son named Anderson Thompson born in EACH branch of this family.
In 1735, Anthony Waddy's land bordered David Thompson and David Anderson, Junior (father or brother of Elizabeth and Mary Anderson, maybe)? I note that Hanover was created from New Kent in 1720/1721, and Louisa was created from Hanover in 1742.
Can anyone comment on the accuracy of the above? Thanks!
