Try Jasper Wager of Great Longstone / Rowland in Google. There are a few of them from research I've been doing and there's a site with the tombstones of Gt Langdon church which you may find interesting. There's also a Lieutenant Jasper Wagner in the Wirksworth battalion volunteers in 1808 & soome mention of him in the national archives D3580/T140 1825

Linda,

I am related to Nellie DePuy and John Wager. It's a little complicated, but Nellie descends from the Christianas and John descends from the Wagers, of course. I descend from both. I am more closely related to John. John's father, Peter, was my third great grandfather's brother. Your husband and I are fourth cousins, once removed.

John and Nellie were actually third cousins!

Incidentally, my great grandfather was Arthur Benjamin Wager (1880 - 1942). He and your Arthur were second cousins. The Wagers actually started out in Dutchess County in the 1700s. Some stayed in Ulster County, some went to Dutchess, and some went to Canada.

If you'd like any more inforamtion, let me know.

Karen McCunney

Hi Flora,
It's been a very long time since I have checked this site, but I see your questions about Nellie Wager were not answered.
Nellie was my husband's great grandmother. Arthur Wager was my husband's grandfather. Grandpa told us about his father and mother crossing the Hudson River from Ulster County to Rhinebeck on some kind of barge or ferry. They settled on Vlei Rd in Rhinebeck, NY. Nellie and John are buried in the Wurtenberg Cemetary almost across Rt 9 down a little way. The Wager family donated a few acres of land for the Wurtenberg Church and cemetary. Chauncey, his wife Marie and their son Chet are buried there. Grandpa's ashes are there but no stone. There are a lot of Wager's in that cemetary and in Rhinebeck.
I hope that answer's a couple questions for you.
Linda Wager

Hi,

These are probably my wife's ancestors - gg grandparents. I believe they could be James Huffman Wager(Wagar) and his wife Nancy Huffman. He was born about 1834 and she was born about 1840. They died in 1900 and 1905 respectively. They had 4 children that I have been able to find, Cindrella, Lillian, Bertha, and Mary. James and Nancy were born and died in the Belleville/Napanee area of Ontario.

If you could contact me directly so we can trade email addresses, I would like to get a larger scan of both sides of the image, if you still have it.

James

I am looking for information regarding my Great Grandmother, Mary Wager. She was born in 1911, and passed away in 2005 in Fall River, MA. Unfortunately, I only got to see her once on her death bed, and my Grandmother, her daughter passed away when I was a kid. My Dad really does not remember any family history on this side of the family. I do know that she married Joseph Gordon who was born in 1903 and passed away in 1980. They are both buried in Fall River.

Hey, I was looking for the Wager family tree. I didn't find anything for the Ralph Dennis Wager Sr. side of the family. Lisa told me that Dan was going to send some info over to us. I'am interested in the family tree info. I'll keep looking on line to find info. I was wondering if we had any family relatives in the civil War. I know about the Korea War things but not much more than that. If Dan has any thing for us that would be great to look at. Thanks Robert Wager

What Wager family does Minnie Wager Townley belong to? I find her in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ludlowville, Tompkins, NY (1870 - 1936); wife of Jay Townley [1850-1931] and mother of Hattie F., d. Sept 1883, ae 11m, 16d.

From the misc. notes I have gathered over the years on Wager, Brown, Townley, and Reeves, I think I have a fuzzy idea of how they fit but just cannot put the pieces together to make one giant picture...
Francisco-Wager/Wagar

The three eldest daughters of Abraham FRANCISCO and his wife, Hester VAN DER COOK married WAGAR/WAGER men. The names of two of these husbands are known and their lineages have been traced. Unfortunately, the identity of the third man has eluded us and continues to be a major family mystery.

The eldest daughter, Cornelia Francisco (1774-1852), married Eberhard "Ephraim" Wager (1766-1848)and they had eleven children. Both are buried in the Washburn Cemetery, Town of Gorham, Ontario Co., NY. Ephraim Wager was a son of Eberhard and Mary Catherine (SHAVER/SHAFER) Wager.

The third eldest daughter, Sarah Ann "Sally" Francisco (1789-1846), married 1. Philip Wager (1768-1838). They had ten children. (After Philip's death, Sally was briefly married to Lemuel DWELLE, the widower of her younger sister, Laventje.) Philip and Sally are buried in Pine Corners Cemetery, Town of Middlesex, Yates Co., NY. Philip Wagar was a son of Bernhardt and Elizabetha (SHAFER) Wagar.

Now for the Great Family Mystery: We know that the second eldest daughter, Alida "Olive" Francisco (1776-before 1865), married a Wager. Unfortuntely, we have no clue as to who he might have been. Thanks to some very inclusive family probate records, we do have names for at least several of the children resulting from this marriage:

1. Capt. Clark F. Wager (married Lucy Cordelia PUTNAM), died after 1865
2. Sally Wager (married DIX, had a son named Zepheniah or Lepheniah Dix), died before 1865
3. Margaret Wager (married ? SHELDON, had one daughter, Corintha Sheldon), died after 1865
4. David Wager (married unknown, had five children: Aaron C. Wager, Helen Wager [married CROSS], Sarah M. Wager [married WHEELER], Orlando Wager and Alexis Wager [son]), died before 1865.

Unfortunately, the spelling of the Wagar/Wager surname does vary in this particular family. If you'd be so kind as to look though your database for me, please do check under both! If you are related to this line, I can give you your Francisco and VanDerCook family roots back to the immigrant ancestors.

These are not my ancestors, but I do know who they are.
William T. Wagar/Wagar was born 17 February, 1814 in North Fredericksburgh Twp., Lennox & Addington Co., Ontario Canada and died 12 December, 1891. He is buried in the Milligan Pioneer Cemetery, Centreville, Lennox & Addington Co., Ontario, Canada. William married Emily DRAPER 18 March, 1835. Christianna Willietta Wager (1860-?, married Job A. CARD) was the youngest of their ten children. From the looks of things, this photo was most likely taken circa 1865.
Karen, Boy, do you have a LOT of Wager ancestors! Do you know the father of Johannes Wager (marr. Margaret Miller)?

Your lineage listed makes sense to me. From the tombstone for Chauncey Wager (1896-1985) I had middle initial of "H.", which would continue the "Henry middle name). Are you sure "D." is correct?

For Daniel and Helena Brandle Wager, I had a son John M. Wager (1848-1887) and then his son William Wager (b. 1865). Are you from either/both of these men? Were you born in the Albany area?

I have to go back to German records for my gg grandfather. It must be fun to be more old-generation American!!

Grace Saatman gas2@cornell.edu

So I should avoid accumulating much more.

However I had a great-grandson, John Charles Wager , listed. Do you have him as a brother of Henry B. Wager?

I have one question re. Philadelphia Wagers -- would like to find the Charles Wager who married Mary Ellen Potter (1848-1952) of Hector/Watkins Glen/Odessa, NY. Yes she lived to be 104! Said her husband was a "waterman", and plied his canal boat between Buffalo and New Yokr City on the Erie Canal. Ever hear of such a character?
Dawson Wages & 1820 Sc Census

In this census (1820)it shows Dawson Sr. with only one
white male 16-26 years old. It also shows both
William and Dawson Jr and their families. It does not
show Jacob the other son of Dawson Sr. However Jacob
was born in 1779 making him (Jacob)41 years old, so it
could not be him. Who is this free white male between
the ages of 16-26 in Dawson Srs. household?

Looking for family of a Mary Wager who seems to have married John Apperly in 1783, I believe in Woodchester, Gloucestershire, England; as you all say, though, the Wagers appear to be in Painswick. I think these people were the parents of George Apperly, born in Woodchester about 1789. Mary may have been John's second wife. I guess Mary to have been born about 1760, but it may have been 10-15 years earlier. George ended up in Stroud/Rodborough and belonged to the Rodborough Tabernacle.

Chauncey's middle name was Henry (from his WWI Draft Registration Card, I don't know where I got the D from)

I believe Johannes Wager's parents were Eberhard Weger and Catharina (Scheever) Schafer. I'm not positive because there were two Johannes born and baptized around the same time in Dutchess County.

John M. Wager (born 1848) is my gg grandfather. He had only two sons, Arthur and Elmer, before he died in 1887. Arthur is my great grandfather. Elmer died in 1911.

John (1848) had a brother William who married Rosetta DePuy. This William had two sons, Vernon Henry Wager and Jesse.

It is nice to know at least one branch of my family tree has been here for over 250 years. And yes, I have tons of Wager ancestors and relatives.

Just looking at an old message from 2001, August 16. John Henry Wager (1870-1948) and his wife Nellie Catherine Depuy (1888-1922) are buried in the newer Wurttemberg (Lutheran) Church Cemetery next to their (presumed) son Chauncey H. (Henry?) Wager (1896-1985) and his wife Erma Fay (1894-1981). I was able to determine John Henry Wager's father as Peter Wager according to the records of the Town Clerk, 80 E. Market St., Rhinebeck 12572. I'm sure you could do the same for Chauncey Wager with just providing year of death. Grace Saatman gas2@cornell.edu

My Grandmother was Mary Wager. Her maiden name was Canosa. Kinda close. She married Jack Wager..who may have been Joseph because somewhere along the way my mom says that his brother had them change their last names for some reason.

He lived in Fall River Mass at one point and they moved to East Haven Conn. I believe that he was Portugese and I know that my Grandmother was Italian. He died young, my Mother was only 3 years old.

The only difference is that they had 10 children. He was born in 1894.

Let me know if you think this may be the same.

I am trying to trace the Wager line in New York. My grandfather was Glen Wager - son of Charles Wager and Mabel (Collins). Charles is the son of Frank and Fanny Wager. Frank shows up in the Lansing, NY census at the age of 14 living with the Bower Family, who incidentally live next door to Rev. Wager and his family. Curious if you've heard of any of these individuals in your research. Please contact me at wenymarie1969@yahoo.com.
Edward Holmes Wager of New York

Many years ago when I was in Tompkins County doing research, I stopped at the (then known as) DeWitt Historical Society, in Ithaca. I hand copied information (perhaps from their card file? - that was so long ago) for an Edward Holmes Wager that I still cannot place on the Wager tree. Perhaps someone can identify the person and some dates associated with him: "Edward Holmes Wager. Had a Hardware store for 14 years. He had a son, E.H.W. who worked there. In 1870 Edward toured the Western States, acquired malaria, returning home 6 years ago; remained 6 months, regained health. Worked at L. Bower's Hardware store in Dundee until the year past, coming back home with his father 6 months ago." Scrapbook S-77-A. P. 1 d - obituary

Dorothy (---) Wager d. 1849

Two years after posting my query on Wager genforum and this message board I am going to do it again, hoping this time someone may know the answer to: who is the Dorothy who md. my Andrew Wager after his first wife, Sarah (Pierson) died ca 1811? I never have found her death info, this was sent to me w/no documentation but I did find an Andrew with a wife Dorothy and have to assume he is mine. They transferred some ppty in 1817. I have a copy of a card from the card file of the church in Ludlowville, I think, that says: "Wager, Dorothy. Died 1849. One of the first founders of the church which was formed on December, 22, 1817". Who was she; when did she and Andrew Wager marry?
