Still looking for info on the children of David Wainscott son of William Henry II. David b. 1855 - 1923. Childred are Wm. Henry, Sarah Anna, Vera "Vercie", Lee ( my grandfather), Clarence, Everett or Dutch, David Jr., Elbert.
All stayed in Indiana except Lee and Clarence, who came to IIowa.

MUSCATINE, Iowa - Lee Marlin Wainscott, 60, of 3294 180th Street, died Saturday, February 21, 2004, at his home.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. The Reverend James Trosen, of Faith United Church of Christ, will officiate. Casket Bearers will be Warren Chambliss, Curtis Chambliss, Matthew Cook, Jamie Cook, Sara Thies, Brian Stolley and Alyssa Miller. Honorary Bearers will be the Laeser Brothers, David Garvin, Richard Meyer, Daniel Kraklow, Larry Bedenbender and Rodger Mardock. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. A funeral luncheon will be held at the Faith United Church of Christ, following the committal service.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Wainscott was born September 2, 1943, in Muscatine, the son of Lee and Ella Stroh Wainscott Jr. He married Deborah A. Stolley, on January 30, 1971, in Muscatine.

He was a member of the National Rifle Association, the National Wild Turkey Federation, a member of Muscatine Branching Out, and a member of the Wildcat Den Friends of the Mill. He was a former member of the National Guard. He had volunteered for years at the Loaves and Fishes Meal site.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and he loved to cook. His favorite pastime was visiting at the Hy-Vee Deli.

He graduated from Muscatine High School in 1962.

He farmed with his dad in Sweetland Township and had worked at H.J. Heinz, retiring after 20 years of employment.

Survivors include his wife, Deborah Wainscott, of Muscatine; his Mother-in law, Lucille Stolley, of Muscatine; his Father, Lee Wainscott Jr., of Muscatine; a Brother-in-law, John H. Stolley, of Muscatine; three sisters, Marguerite Chambliss and husband Floyd, of Muscatine, Nancy Cook and husband Gary, of Muscatine, and Annette Miller of Arkansas; his God Son, Brian Stolley; Several nieces and nephews and one great niece and one great nephew also survive.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ella, and his father-in-law, Howard Stolley.

My parents never talked about their parents (my grandparents)but I know that Thomas Marion Wainscott is my grandfather and Stella Hanlin Wainscott was my grandmother. They had seven children Albert "Bert" Wainscott, "Wayne" Wainscott (I never knew his first name, but I think my mom once called him Marion), Dorance Wainscott, Clifford "Roy" Wainscott (my father)Thelma "Ruth" Wainscott Corbert, Lula "Lu" Wainscott Moore, and Josie "Jo" Wainscott Simcox. My mother has some info about some of the Wainscott's that took their Mother's maiden name of Wainscott and dropped their Father's name Shae. If anyone is interested I can probably get more info on this subject. My Grandparents lived in Ohio and KY. My grandfather was Carl Wainscott.

Does anyone have hard proof that Rebecca was part Indian? I see lots of speculation, but no hard evidence. I have a hard time believing she was part Indian because her daughter, Amanda (b. 1836), married John Stewart (b. 1834 Mo., d. 1862) John was the son of Evan Stewart of Polk Co, Mo.

Evan Stewart was well-to-do, owning a plantation with at least 19 slaves (making him the second largest slave owner in the county). I just can't see a member of that class of family marrying anyone with Indian blood. It would have been socially unacceptable to the level of taboo.

John's son, Columbus, married a woman who was part Indian and was all but ostracised by his family.

Of course mixed marriages did occur, but the higher the social class, the less likely they were.

Saw your post on Catherine and John. My info says that she was born October 16, 1766 in Rowan Co., North Carolina: d. after 1852, Owen Co., Indiana: m to John Baker, Dec. 12, 1783 in Surry Co., North Carolina; b. 1762, Edgecombe Co., North Carolina; d. March 22, 1850, Owen Co., Indiana. (no documentation on any of this information). Have same info on her fathers birthday; d. after Jan. 23, 1820, Owens Co., Kentucky; m. Catherine Elizabeth (Cotton or Kellem). I have his will that verifies him being in Owen Co., Kentucky and he mentions his wife in it. Will trade documentation on this family.

I have a Catherine Wainscott (daughter of Abraham Wainscott) who married a John Baker. I also have a Catherine Athaliah Wainscott (daughter of John Wainscott) who married a John Baker. Just wondering if both actually married different John Bakers, were they the same man; or do I have bad info......any ideas?

RH Wainscott, 90, Life Long Resident Of Denver Died Sunday

Final rites were held Wednesday, Februray 7, for Riley Huse Winscott, 90, who resided in the Denver Texas Community those 90 years. He died Sunday at his home in Sunset.
The parents of Mr Wainscott came from Iowa and Mr Wainscott was born enroute to Texas. His father was killed in an Indian raid when he was just a small child. Survivors include the following: children: Mrs. Myrtle Thompson of Snyder Okla., Mrs Ethel Campbell of Norman, Okla., D.L. Wainscott of Sunset, Mrs Rosie Alexander of California, 22 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, and several great great grandchildren.

Killing of Daniel Wainscott and Jack Kilgore
John Willingham and Bob Wainscott were building new homes on Denton Creek, about ten miles south of Montague, and had already moved their families into this new territory. September 5, 1858, which was Sunday, Daniel Wainscott and family, Bob Wainscott and family, and Jack Kilgore and family, and a total crowd of about 37 men, women, and children, decided to go over to the new homes of John Willingham and Bob Wainscott. Most of them rode in an ox-wagon, but some walked; and Daniel Wainscott and Jack Kilgore were walking considerably in the lead. When the crowd was within a quarter of a mile of the new homes, seven demons of the forest dashed upon them. The two men in advance rushed back toward the wagon, and they were slain shortly afterward. This, no doubt, was the first real bloodshed in Montague County, and since the Indians had theretofore been comparatively peaceable, the killing of Daniel Wainscott and Jack Kilgore, of course, caused much consternation among the remaining crowd. Cash McDonald was wounded in the arm, but the little child he was carrying was uninjured. It seems that Bob Wainscott was also wounded, and his wife, thinking her husband was killed, made her retreat into the timber.
The Indians, on this occasion, provoked the difficulty and fired the first shot, almost before the settlers were aware of their presence. Daniel Wainscott took a chair from the wagon and knocked an Indian from his horse before he himself was killed. Mrs. Bob Wainscott was found the second or third day after this difficulty wandering through the woods. Wainscott and Kilgore were buried on the bank of Denton Creek near where they were killed.

Wow! You have the info. I have been confused about Robert Bob Wainscott. Do you have the story about him in the Indian attack in Sept of 1858. There are some stories that say he died from complications of that. that doesn't make sense since he didn't die until 1863. but it says in riley's obit that his father died in indian attack. I suspect that is incorrect, but makes for a good story. also, do you think that Chris C Wainscott died on cattle drive? Some think he is buried in Kansas-- he got pneumonia ?? and died on the chisolm trail according to the story i have...

She married Robert L. Wainscott, Jan 20, 1852 in Polk Counlty, MO . After her parents died, Sarah and Bob took their daughter and Sarah's little brother Deloney to Texas to live near other family members. They had three more children in Texas before the Civil War started. After bob failed to return from the service and was presumed killed in action, Sarah married William L. Booker on 12 Dec 1864 in Montague County, TX and had four more daughters, including my (Pattie Bates) grandmother, Beulah Booker Conner. It is noted on the 1900 census that she had eight children, all living, but the 1910 census shows she had given rith to 13 children, eight of them living.

This information provided by DOC Wainscott a grandson of Christopher to me before He past on. I have checked the Thackersville cemetery with no luck. The Christopher story is a long one and if you are from that line will gladly provide it to you direct, Perry

Christopher (Chris) went north (up through Oklahoma and Kansas) on a cattle drive. He was stricken with pneumonia and died and was buried on the trail, some say in Kansas. Hannah was left a widow with some children still at home, some think she lived close to the Red River. She would send the children to the river for sand to clean the house floors. Most of the younger children later lived across the Red River from Gainsville around Thackersville, Oklahoma in Love County. I do not know where she died or when or where she is buried. It is believed she spent her last days with these younger children in and around Thackersville, so I think she is buried there also. I have made two trips to this area looking for her grave, so far I have not found it, the last trip I did find the graves of some of her family. I believe hers was there, I doubt very much if she has a marker, as the cemetery has lots of graves with unreadable markers, just plain sand rocks, and some with nothing. I am going back to the Thackersville cemetery and check one more time to see if I can fined Hannah’s grave.

In my research I did find the obit for a Derrell Wainscott in Las Vegas and had a sneaking feeling that might be him.
This has ended a long search for me and I am saddened.
If you will I'll try and send pictures, most of them are on slides and quite old. I have one with us in boot camp as a group, and might have a movie 8mm which would be also old and in bad shape. If I find any I will have to have an address to send. Feel sure I can take a picture of the one in the group, Will also send your message to another friend that lives in Ok. he has also been looking. Who were Mary "Polly" Wainscott's parents? Did she have any siblings? This is a collateral line for me, but I am interested in learning more about Mary's family.

Daniel LETT married about 1813-1814 to Mariah OSBORN (probably near Owen co KY). Daniel LETT married a second time to Mary "Polly" WAINSCOTT.

The LETT-WAINSCOTT marriage took place 12 Feb 1824 in Owen co KY [Book 1A Marriage Bonds Owen co, KY]. Bondsman was John C Winscott. A letter of consent was given by Katherine Winscott, mother of bride, and signed by Richard Winscott guardian. Testators were John McGibney and John C Winscott. The marriage was performed by William Cobb, JP.

Census estimates give a birth year of about 1802 for Mary "Polly" Wainscott.

I need to get copies of the originals on both of these. People have reported varying numbers for the household members on both of these pages, I need to see photocopies of the originals!)

Daniel Lett bought one lot of land in Owenton KY 1823 and sold it to the Owenton Baptist church in 1834 [Deed book e p66] Daniel's wife was named as Polly in the sale records.

The LETT family moved to Jennings county, Indiana by 1828; Daniel Lett's siblings had settled there beginning a few years earlier in 1816.

Daniel Lett was received by letter January the first Saturday 1828 as a member of Coffee Creek Baptist church (Paris Crossing, Jennings County, Indiana). Polly Lett appears in later records of the same church.

Daniel Lett died in Jennings county March 27th 1837; his death was recorded in the minutes of Coffee Creek Baptist Church. Polly Lett continued to live in the area, and was found on the 1840 census in the household of her son, Fielding Lett. (Jennings co IN p447)

In the 1850 census, Mary "Polly" (WAINSCOTT) LETT is probably the 48 year old woman listed in the household of "Zilphy" PHILLIPS. Zilphia LETT was a daughter of Daniel Lett and Mary "Polly" Wainscott. She was born 1832 in Indiana and married 16 Jan 1847 to William A Phillips in Jennings county, Indiana. (Daniel Lett had a sister named Zilphia)
