John Wakefield and Sarah Goode

Hello All,
Has anyone information on the marriage of Sarah Goode and John Wakefield? The Census records show they were married and their children's birth certificates list Sarah's maiden name as Goode. I have not been able to locate a marriage between Sarah Goode and John Wakefield.

I believe John Wakefield was born abt 1820 in Atlebury as per the 1881 Census and his wife, Sarah was born in Fillongley as per the 1881 Census. They were living at 9 Old Union St Wendesbury.

Any help appreciated regarding this family.

Wakefields and Walshes from Urraghry (or Urrachree), Clontuskert parish, Galway

My descendants are Wakefields from Urraghry (although spelled nowadays as Urrachree) in the parish of Clontuskert, Galway.

I was wondering if anyone had any further information.

I am aware that there appears to be 2 farms with Wakefields in Urraghry per the 1901 census and Griffiths Valuation. My descendants derive from the farm owned by Anne Wakefield (nee Walsh)b1845 and Joseph Wakefield who were married in Clontuskert Church on 20 Oct 1870. Joseph's father was Charles Wakefield who owned one of the farms per the Griffiths valuation whilst a William Wakefield owned the other. Presumably this was one farm once and was split between 2 brothers.

The aim of my research and this email is to link this recent history to the known history per the Wakefield Memorial which details Wakefields e.g Dr Albert Wakefield b1650 to Wakefields born 1735 to 1741.

I'll also be interested to hear of anyone who has come across gravestones bearing the Wakefield name at Clontuskert Church.

I was thinking by finding out where Jesse came from you'd have a better chance of finding where he ended up. I looked at various "Iowa Census's" trying to connect Jesse and Addie Williams together at the same place at the same time, but didn't find anything concrete. The 1905 Iowa Census is your best bet, but in my quick search I didn't find anything. Iowa is full of Wakefields.

I know I am replying to old postings but I am also a descendant of Charles Wakefield and Rachel Bankston. Near where the Wakefields lived is an abandoned cemetery called Hamilton Cemetery. I had the opportunity to visit the cemetery a few years ago. Not too many stones are standing. I know Nathaniel Hamilton and his wife Elizabeth Wakefield are buried there.

I don't think the mothers name or any thin else will help as Jessie had to be in Earlhalm Iowa in 1903or 4 as that is when my father was consived. What jessie did or where he went we will never know unless he told his grandchildren he had a child with a women he never married. She was a Quaker and kept my father for over a month I feel she wanted to keep him but just couldn't manage on her own. He was given up in Desmoines Iowa where he was born. My father was born Everet Eugine Williams. after he was adopted his name was changed to Edward Mehring. His birth mother's name was Addie Williams. I found her family in Adell Iowa about 9 years ago. Thay knew nothing about her having a child before she was married. The grandson was quite nice at first but all of a sudden he wanted nothing to do with me. He did send me a picture of her & gave me a lot of information. My father & his mother looked a lot alike and the grandson from a different father also looked a lot like my father. Some of my grandchildren look like his children.
I do not know where Jessie was born just that he was 20 when my father was born or at least that is what the birth record has on it. Addie was born in Allen Neb. Apr 15 1884

MUSCATINE - Jessie Iola Wakefield, 81, of Muscatine, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, at Unity Hospital in Muscatine.

Services will be at the Foursquare Church in Muscatine. The Revs. Earl Miller, Bob Wakefield, and Larry Hill will officiate. Pallbearers will be Mike Wakefield, Ron Munson, Bob Hill, Larry Hill Jr., Tim Bledsol, Kevin Hammond, and Mike Haller. Burial will be at the Illinois City Cemetery.

Following grave side services a luncheon and fellowship will be served at the Community Room at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from at Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home.

Mrs. Wakefield was born May 31, 1918, in Muscatine, the daughter of Gordon and Millie Mockmore Ricketts. She married Delbert Wakefield Sr. on Feb. 9, 1935, in Muscatine. She was an active member of the Four Square Church. She enjoyed her grandchildren, loved roses, and was a good cook. Survivors include three sons, Delbert Wakefield Jr. and his wife, Dorothy, of Letts, Bob Wakefield and his wife, Karen, of Galesburg, Ill., and Roxie Wakefield and his wife, Teresa, of Waterloo; a daughter, Anna Hill and her husband, Larry, of Muscatine; 13 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ted Ricketts and his wife, Mary Jane, of Muscatine and Everett Ricketts and his wife, Becky, of Vacaville, Calif.; a sister, Clara Bell Schaaf and her husband, Donald, of Muscatine. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Delbert on Jan. 15, 1997; a son, Loren Wakefield; two brothers, Charles and Walter; and five sisters, Mildred, Gloria, Lorena, and two in infancy.

LETTS, Iowa - Dorothy E. Wakefield, 75, of Letts, died Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at her home.

Funeral Service will be at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. Casketbearers will be Larry Hill, Sr., Bob Wakefield, Ralph Jeamby, Michael Haller Jr., Chad Parkhurst, and Delbert Wakefield, III. Burial will be held at the Illinois City Cemetery.

Mrs. Wakefield was born on July 14, 1932, in Muscatine, the daughter of Cecil A. and Pearl M. Russell Byrd. She married Elmer R. Haller on May 1, 1948, in Davenport. She later married Delbert R. Wakefield, Jr. on October 15, 1981, in Hanford, California.

She was a member of the Grandview Community Bible Church. She was employed as a retail clerk for Wilson’s True Value Hardware in the 1980’s. Following her employment she enjoyed being a housewife; knitting, crocheting, cooking, canning fruits and vegetables and caring for her family.

She will be deeply missed by her husband, Delbert Wakefield Jr. of Letts; children, Michael D. Haller and wife, Cindy, of Atalissa, Linda C. Johnson and husband, Ron, of Oakville and Becky A. Buttrick and husband, Andrew, of Lady Lake, Florida; step-children, Michael H. Wakefield and wife, Cindy, of Grandview, Delbert R. Wakefield III and wife, Clytha, of Lansing, Kansas, Marla S. Wakefield of Muscatine and Lisa M. Munson and husband, Ronald, of Muscatine; 18 grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; two half-brothers, William Jordan and John Jordan both of Corcoran, California, and one half-sister, Barbara Brewer and husband, Steven, of LeMoore, California.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband; two sons, Clarence and Larry; two brothers, Oscar Byrd and Clifford Byrd Sr. and two sisters, Edith Metzger and Nina Maylone.

My Wakefield family lived at Brieryhurst Farm in Mow Cop, North Staffordshire. My 3gt grandfather John had a brother Joseph Wakefield born 1784 for whom I have never been able to find any other records. A letter from my grandfather said that around this time one of the family went to Ireland.

Do you know if this Joseph might be related to your Wakefield?
