Hi I would be interested to hear from anyone who has researched the Wakeham family name. A lot of my family history was lost when my gran passed away.
I live Saltash in Cornwall UK, and there seems to be a fair amount of us left in the area. I would be interested to see how far back I can trace and see how far the descendants have travelled.

hello stephen, just recently started the wakeham family myself. so info will be very little. my grams is a wakeham. her and her brothers and sisters grew up in iowa. per "stories" her father came to iowa by train from new york. the "orphan train". 'arthur edward wakeham was #11 out of 14 children and he was born in 1884 possibly in washinton d.c. some time prior to that his parents came to the u.s. as they both were born and married in the channel islands (?island of jersey) that would be francis edward wakeham and janet mac donald. thats the extent of my knowledge so far. eager to learn more ....

I had a aunty married who lived in saltash, from my fathers side. we lived in Landreath and Pelynt. My father had many brothers and sisters who all lived in Pelynt. All are buried now in Pelynt. Love to chat about the family. email me.

In 1921, George N. Wakeham (45) immigrated from Cornwall (Cambourne), England to Houghton, MI with his wife, Katie Benbow Wakeham (35) and their children: William Wakeham (?); George Wakeham (4); Ismay (Sally) Wakeham (1); Jack Wakeham (infant). There are still many Wakehams in the Houghton area.
We have been in contact with a 'cousin' near Cornwall named A. Burley.
We would enjoy hearing more about the Wakeham family.

My Aunt and I have been researching Wakehams for some years now. My paternal grandmother was Lilian Wakeham, born in Plymouth along with her 5 siblings. (Phyllis, Cyril, Sydney Bertram or Bert, Eric and Dennis). Our ancestors lived latterly in Plymouth, but our roots are actually in a place called Blackawton near Totnes in Devon.I have a great deal of information I could pass on to you. Let me know what you have and maybe we can find a connection.

i happened to see ur reply to stepehen, sand i was wondering if u can also helps oout with some info, if possible. i noticed the place plymouth been mentioned, anyhow my mums name is elizabeth and her maiden name is wakeham. Her grandfathers name was charles wakeham who came from plymouth, and he came to fiji and married a luisa hamilton.....mums dads name is bernard nicholas wakeham, he is one of the sons, i know his brothers name was ugeen...maybe u could help with some info. we are actually in fiji and there mum has another 2 brothers here whos name is ernest wakeham and anthony wakeham, the rest of her family are abroad. please help

My Wakeham family are from Saltash. My Grandfather was Alfred Charles Wakeham. He and my Grandmother emigrated to Canada in 1910 and had 8 kids... who have all gone on to have kids -- so there are a lot of us Saltash Wakeham's in Canada. Here is the scoop on my Grandparents:

When Alfred Charles moved to Canada, he lost touch with his siblings who were as follows:

Hi Elaine,

Just found your message regarding the Wakeham family. Do you happen to have a Mr. Wakeham married to June/Jane Goddard about in the 1840-50's? Not positive of the christian name. I believe the Goddard's lived in Devon. The Goddard's are on my paternal side of the family. The above info regarding the marriage was in my late great aunt 's personal papers, but that is all I have.
Would really appreciate any help in any way.

I saw your note about Wakeham's coming to Canada around 1910. Mine are also in Canada about that time. Do you have any information on William Wakeham who married Eliza Clark? He later married Pheobe Ann Clark who was Eliza's sister. William & Eliza had a son named Silas.
Silas spelled his last name Wacome or Wakem.

Any information would be great.

I have just found that I have a Wakeham also. Rebecca Wakeham b.c.1733-6 to Wm. and Rebecca Wakeham, Philleigh parish Cornwall. She m. William Green in 1754 St. Just in Roseland, Cornwall.

We have Wakeham Family in Texas. We have been to England and were unaware so much of our possible famliy lived near by.

I dont think I have any connection with any of the messages which have been posted, but I have a Richard Wakeham who was born in Modbury Devon in 1802. He married Ann Andrews in 1827 - children Richard who died very young, Sarah, Elizabeth, Ann and George He was transported to Tasmania Australia in 1843 as a convict. His family followed in 1849. He therefore of course died in Australia. I do not know Richard's parents and this is where I come to a screaming halt apart from the fact that I know his grandfather was Nicholas. I have a copy of a petition he wrote to try to get Richard released
