Hi Kevin
yes I have been in contact with Adrian Wakenshaw - he's part of 'our mob' and he organised a Wakenshaw family reunion a couple of years ago, which unfortunately I didn't manage to get to. I haven't been in contact with Jeanette Brunlees but I will do, now that I have her e-mail address.
From the info you've given me, I can't see a connection between our Wakenshaws. Our first Wakenshaw ancestors in Australia (They used the name Walkinshaw until emigration)was Adam Wakenshaw (1808-1885) and his wife Mary (nee Deans)(1803-1874) and children Margaret 1831, Alexander 1832, Elizabeth 1835, Adam 1837, William 1840 and John 1841. They sailed from Dunfermline Scotland on the "Cheapside" in 1848 and settled in Victoria.
If you could link your line back to Scotland, as you suspect that was where they originated, that could prove a link.
I have a private family site in ancestry.com. If you would like to access the Wakenshaw family tree there, please send me your email address and I'll send you an invitation.
cheers
Robyn
