Hi Jan,

I apologize for the late response, been out of town. Any way I caught with the board and found yours about Zephaniah Walden. He was a brother of my Joseph Walden born about 1798 in VA and died before 7 march 1835 in Vigo County, IN. Father Joseph would be my 3rd great grandfather.

Joseph had a son Joseph W who eventually ended up in Capleville, Shelby County, TN (Memphis) He was an interesting person to say the least.

I would be interested in keeping in touch to compare and share notes, and see what you might have back to their beginning.

You can contact me direct if you wish at uhrmann2000@yahoo.com

BTW I am from Denver originally. Thanks in advance from another Coloradan!!

Norb Woolsey

John,

My name is Sherry Lowery and I am a descendant of Featherston through his daughter Lucy Walden Edens. I have quite a bit of information on the Waldens. In 2005 I did go to Patrick County, Virginia, where I found the will of Moses Walden naming Featherston (did not say he was his son; however did leave him money). I have not done any research in the past year. My Walden material is packed up. Email me at jakesherry@bellsout.net.
My ggggrandparents were Thomas and Sarah (Alsop) Walden who settled in Harrison County about 1810.They raised nine kids including Thomas W(my direct line).Thomas married Sarah Kinslear (Kinslow) in 1843 and they had three kids: Lewis W, James Thomas (my line) and Sarah Elizabeth. Sarah may have married a James Penn in Ky.and died young.
I have the names of all the spouses and kids down to the grandchildren.
What I'm trying to find are their descendants....where in the world have they gone? None seems to still be in Kentucky.
My ggrandparents moved to New York and went up to Ontario,Canada as well. That's where my grandfather John Gordon Walden was born in 1881.His sister Bessie Leona married and moved to California.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,Elaine Langlois (nee Walden)
email me at eglanglois@hotmail.com or post to this board.

I'm looking for informaion on Mary Walden and family. She married John F. ("S") Priddy in Morgan Co., AL on 4 Jan 1828. I believe her sister, Margaret ("Peggy") Walden married John F. Priddy's cousin, Richard Priddy, Jr., in Morgan Co., AL on 17 Nov 1823. My understanding is both Mary and Peggy were daughters of Featherston Walden. Mary and John F. Priddy had a son, William Featherston Walden, named in honor of John F.'s father, William Priddy, and Mary's father, Featherston. Any info on Mary and family will be greatly appreciated.

I see your posting is about three years old. Maybe you have already found all this:

Joseph's parents are named in the "History of Pittsylvania Co. Va." and he is described in his military enlistment on file in Richmond, Va.

John Walden's DNA project has been a godsend. It has proven that Austin and Joseph are not at all related to Elisha the Longhunter. We may never know why Austin said so, except he was only about 14 when he left his father and may have just been confused.

There is another Elisha or Elijah Walden b. 1766 living in Woodford Co. Ky. at the same time as Joseph, but I have yet to see any proof that they are brothers, as some say. Would like to see it. there were several likely brothers living around Joseph in Va. but none named Elisha or Elijah.

Be happy to chat with you.

I believe the Elijah they're looking for is not related to Joseph, although some suspect he may be a brother. I doubt it, but would love to find proof either way. There seems to be no connection except that both were in Woodford Co. KY at the same time.

I'm also descended from Joseph Walden and Rachel Noe, through son Lewis L. Walden. If you'd like to compare notes, my e-mail is LLMCD2000 at yahoo.com.

Re: DANIEL WALDEN OR WALDON OR VALDON

Here is a message I posted on another Lewis thread. I don't know if it helps your search for Waldons.

After we discussed your story about Elizabeth Lewis, I was inspired to do some more digging. Here is what I found.

Abel Lewis died sometime before August 1863. His estate began probate on 29 August 1863 and ended 15 March 1872. Elizabeth dawdled in getting the estate finalized and it was not until her death sometime between April 12, 1869 and July 21, 1870 that the probate of Abel's estate was continued.

The two most noteworthy items in the probate of Abel Lewis' estate were these:

No mention of slaves was included in the inventory of his estate. I am still in the process of obtaining microfilm of the probate account books and this may clarify this item.

The thing I thought you might want to know the most is that according to the probate records, Loveday (Lovey) (Loveda) was not the daughter of Abel and Elizabeth, but rather their granddaughter, daughter of Daniel Lewis and an unknown mother.

Daniel of course died in the Civil War on 3 November 1862.

I have searched for a marriage record in Coosa County for the mother of Loveda, but none was recorded. While the absence of a marriage record is not unusual, it does make it difficult to determine who the mother was. Daniel would have been somewhere around 15 to 18 yrs of age when Loveda was born, if the census records are to be believed.

It is apparent from the evidence that Loveda's mother probably died and left Daniel a very young father. It is also apparent fromt the evidence, that Loveda's maternal grandparents did not choose to raise their grandchild. So that task was taken on by Abel and Elizabeth.

Daniel married Martha Elizabeth "Betsey" Castleberry 4 January 1857, two years after Loveda was born. The presumption would be that Betsey did not want to raise Daniel's child or that Loveda was already an integral part of Abel and Elizabeth's household and therefore, was left with them. Why they raised her may never be known, but the records are quite clear as to the relationships.

You can contact me at brandysan@gmail.com if you would like a transcript of the probate record for Abel Lewis. I also have a copy of Daniel and Betsey's marriage record, if you would like to have it.

I want to thank you for your inspiration. Like everyone else descended from Abel and Elizabeth, I believed that Loveda was Abel and Elizabeth's daughter because of the census records. However, by digging deeper, I have discovered that was not the case. I hope this helps anyone descended through Loveda in their search.

Sandra M. Hammons
I'm looking for ancestors and descendants of James David Walden, Sr., (AKA Dave Walden or J. D. Walden, Sr) who died in High Point, Guilford County, North Carolina in about 1968 or 1969. I find his wife listed as either Nannie Craven Walden or Nancy Craven Walden, and they had children Mae Gertrude (my grandmother), J. D. Walden, Jr. (maybe nicknamed "Junie") and Margaret. There may have been one other child, and that child may be Junie.

William Jackson's parents were James and Mahala Walden.

There are a couple other Walden's in the Fannin County area at the same time as James (who was born abt 1808) - Daniel, Emsley, and Wesley. Perhaps the 4 are brothers, but I'm not sure.
I found an Elijah walden born 1779 in Virginia. The 1850 census lists him and his kids as living in Illinois.
I found this info at the following site:
labs.familysearch.org
No wife is noted so perhaps she died.
I'm not related to these folks...I don't think so..but I do descend from Thomas Walden who maried Sarah Alsop in Va. in 1795.
Any Walden researchers are very welcome to email me at
eglanglois@hotmail.com
Thanks,Elaine

Elijah is not Joseph & Rachel's son however there is speculation that he is one of Joseph's three brothers. Whereas your Joseph's parents, Sarah Hampton & William Walden,(1730-1793) is confirmed, unfortunately their link to Elijah I don't believe has been made yet.
