Michelle,
I was surfing my grandfathers name (Delmar Waldo)and ran across your posting. I believe he had a brother named Ira. I know for sure his mom's name was Rebecca. He was from Clarksville, Arkansas, and was born in 8/3/1892. I have an amazing photo of the whole family (not dated, although my papaw was just a baby) He married into the Hickey/Wells family. He married Ima Hickey Wells(7 redheaded daughters in the Wells family)
Could we be talking about the same Delmar? Are your Waldo's from the Arkansas area? Please let me know. We know so little of his (their) life before they came to Colorado.
He served in WWI as a wagoneer, and joined with an entire contingent of boys from the area of Clarksville. I have the photo of them in their farmers boy duds before they were inducted officially. I'm excited. Please let me know if we are tracking the same family.
Pam Waldo

I'm looking for Joss Waldo from Chicago Ill. born in 1904/5. He married Margaret Perkins? He lived in NY briefly, had a son, divorced, and moved back to Chicago. The 1930 census shows that he was a boarder. He may have worked in the hotel industry.

Do you have access to the Waldo book? It says that Jeremiah Jackson was the husband of Faith Peck before wshe married Cornelius Waldo. He is identified as a mariner and the son of Edmund and Martha Jackson of Boston. Born July 14, 1645 and died 1681. Administration of his estate was granted to his widow May 13, 1681. Jeremiah and faith had a son, Jeremiah, born June 11, 1677 at Boston. It notes that he was named in Faith's will, along with his children.

Actually, Jackson is my husband's mother's maiden name.
We were working on this project for her before she died not too long ago. She was very interested in her family history.
Her Jacksons are now in South Carolina..

I am always happy to share what I can if needed by others.
Many have helped me also...

I also am participating in the FTDNA project. My brother a GIBBS submitted his DNA not too long ago...
Hope your DNA helps you further along the way....
Susan G. Martin

Forrest,

Going back over my notes I do find that I had questions about dates not seeming to line up properly...I had stopped to work on another family line and had not gone back to the Jacksons yet............
It looks like Thomas,Jeremiah, Faith and Hannah were children of Jeremaih born abt 1652 in Boston, and his wife Faith Peck born 1654 in Boston. She died Oct 23, 1732 in Mass.
Let me know what you think...
A Jackson researcher had given these notes to me to work on a few years ago. He quoted information from the book "Pioneers of Mass.", and other reference material he had researched. Yes, I do want to make any needed corrections..
Thanks,
Susan

Your 3rd Great Grandmother Jemima is my 4th Great Grandfather's (John J. Jr, Born 1728) Sister. Their parents, John Waldo and Jemima Abbott Waldo, are buried in Bridgeport WV, which is the same town I work in. I have found their gravestones, they are severely worn, but they are there. John Waldo died in 1814, and Jemima Abbott Waldo died in 1815. Both Johns were in the American Revolutionary War, having served out of Albany N.Y. prior to relocating to then Bridgeport Virginia. Jemima Abbott's Dad, John Abbott, fought in the French and Indian War. My 5th Great Grandfather, John Waldo, is a Great Grandson of Henry Adams and Edith Squire Adams, whom, I believe, are the 3rd Great Grandparents of our second President, John Adams. We are related to at least five Presidents thru Henry Adams and Edith Squire Adams. We are also related to our 1st President, George Washington, thru Thankful Dimmock, who was married to Edward Waldo, (my 6th Great Grandparents).

Rescued Photos, WALDO Surname, Fremont, Muskegon Co. MI
I rescue old photos as a hobby, if there's identification on them. I picked up five photos of various members of the WALDO family of Fremont, Newaygo County, Michigan. One of four young women, two of them are identified. One is Hattie Smith and the other is Anna Waldo. Another group photo is of three WALDO girls, identified as: Anna, Dena and Lizzie Waldo. The third photo is of Rollo & Dena Waldo. The last two are of Anna WALDO, taken at different times of her life.

I'd like to locate family to send this to. Please contact me off site at: digginroots@yahoo.com for details.

Kathy

1878 letter from Blanche P. Waldo

LETTER FROM DAKOTA to SIOUX FALLS FROM BLANCHE P. WALDO

LETTER FROM DAKOTA
SIOUX FALLS, Sept. 12, 1878
This September afternoon, Marion, my eldest sister, and Jennie, my younger, sit on the summit of one of the beautiful bluffs of Sioux Falls, a delightful little village in the south-eastern part of Dakota territory. As I gaze around me from this height of 200 feet, or perhaps more, I see our beautiful Sioux River winding its way through a lovely valley, and tumbling over mighty rocks, forming a foaming cataract. Oh! how beautiful the large island, covered with verdure is on this barren prairie. This island contains nine acres of ground, and its principal trees are elm and oak. Sioux Falls is a thriving little place, and as we sit here, we can see the carpenters at work putting up the frames of business houses as well as residences, and the masons venering them with brick. The largest hotel of the place is a large venered building. I smile when I think of the surprise Eastern people manifest as they see the beautiful residences, elegantly furnished of some of our citizens. Before us lies the railroad which was finished through here last month, and on which they are now at work. A great many strangers are coming in every day, some seeking fortunes, and others pleasures; among the latter are six gentlemen, friends of ours, from Evansville, Wisconsin, our former place of residence, surprise us by stepping in upon us unexpectedly. We had a very pleasant visit with them. One mile beyond the depot is the cemetery, on the hillside; it is a beautiful yet lovely spot, and a cherished place for us, because alas! one year ago, we laid all that remained of our beautiful and dearly beloved sister there, and only last month a little niece; just a little while and we too may be laid thre. Our home is just at the foot of the bluff, and Marion and husband think it is a pretty place. Now I am no story writer, my friends, but please accept my poor description of my western home.
Blanche P. Waldo

Yes, Thomas Jackson Sr. was married to Hester Hammond. That was NOT her maiden name. She and a "Mr." Hammond had a daughter named Elizabeth Hammond born about 1715. Elizabeth's stepfather Thomas Jackson, Sr. raised her as his own child.
Although Thomas's son Jeremiah Jackson is not mentioned in the Will of 1746, his name appears in the Codicle to the will. This was dated April 9, 1749 and probated in 1753.
You may already have information this but just in case.....
Susan

Eliza (Boss) Waldo?

I am looking for more information on Eliza (Boss)Waldo. I am especially looking for where and when she died and where she is interred. She is my wife's great-grandmother. In 1900 she was widowed and living with her youngest son, Alfred Frederick Waldo and family in Havre De Grace, MD - per the 1900 census. We have no information after that.

She is believed to have been the daughter of Solomon BOSS and Catherine KNOWLES and was born 15 March 1830 in Smyrna, Chenango County, NY.

She was the 2nd wife of Edmund Freeman, Waldo (b 21 June 1811 in Plattsburg, Clinton County, New York.) who was a son of Jesse Waldo, JR - a patriot from CT along with his father, Jesse Waldo, SR. She was married to Reverend Edmund Freeman Waldo 28 April, 1859 in Palmyra, Jefferson County, Wisconsin. He died on 16 January 1893 in Harbor Springs, Emmet Co, MI.

Any help or information you have would be deeply appreciated.
