The Trail of Tears Association, or TOTA, is currently researching this family for a proposed "marking' of the graves of those who participated in the Trail of Tears. The TOTA has chapters in each of the states that the Trail of Tears coursed through during the removal of the Cherokee in 1838-39.The Walkingstick family had several who were a part of this infamous exodus. The TOTA is seeking info for the family of John (Jack) Walkingstick, Drinker Walkingstick, Ahnawake, Olkinney, Levi, John Jr., William, Tarcheechee, et al., who were participants in the Trail of Tears for a proposed commemoration and memorial for this family. You can learn more about these types of "markings' by visiting the TOTA on the web or by becoming a member of this worthy organization.Anyone who has pertinent, factual data on the Walkingstick family and their participation in the Trail of Tears should present that info to the TOTA so that an exact accounting of all family members who participated in the 1838-39 removal can be performed.Quite an honor for the family and also a worthy recognition by this association that seeks to remember all of those who walked the Trail Where They Cried.Wado.MW
