I have all of the family information in my genealogical book, which I leave in Houston during hurricane season, but I can tell you a few things off of the top of my head. The Walkups are not one of the first 500 families. They arrived in the US in the 1700's. The Pickens' were here earlier. One of the Pickens was a famous Indian fighter in South Carolina. I know that your listing is old, but if you still need the information, let me know. I am a member of the DAR, and I think that this is my revolutionary ancestor.

You sound like a relative to me. The house, if it is big and has columns belonged to William Walkup. i don't remember the exact date that the house was built but post civil war. My direct line is Samuel Hoey Walkup, William's brother. William had no children of his own, but raised many of his siblings orphans there. My great grandmother was Lelia Eugenia Walkup Davis, who married and moved tp Texas in the early 1890's. My grandmother was a genealogist and has the family traced back to northern Ireland. I also have family pictures and information. I would love to see the photo and find out your history.

My Walkup ancestor is Robert Madison Walkup, date of birth unknown.
He married Louisa Hicks 15 Dec 1840, Adair County, Kentucky. I own the
family farm he purchased in 1846 and will pass it to one of his descendants.
I am trying to discover as many descendants as possible, so that I can
pass it on to the best qualified. I am interested in finding descendants
of the following children of Robert Madison and Louisa Walkup.

1) Harriet Pendleton Walkup m. John Benjamin Estes (my line)
2) Louvenia B. Walkup m. Wilford O. Penick
3) Martha A. F. Walkup m. Felix M. Dulin
4) Letitia Walkup m. Thomas Anthony Rencil Fraser

Robert Madison Walkup died in an accident in 1854 and left Louisa a widow.

Mr. Walkup died Tuesday, November 2, 2004.
Pallbearers were Pete Keiser, Dan Ballenger, Joe Cruseturner, Edwin Slayter, Dana Ransom and John Anthony.
Born in Dallas on Oct. 26, 1918, Mr. Walkup grew up in Mexia, where his father was in the oil field supply business. After graduating from Schreiner Institute in Kerrville, Texas in 1938, Mr. Walkup moved to Kilgore to take over the management of the Kilgore branch of the American Supply Company, the oil field supply business that his father had founded.
In 1948, Mr. Walkup was a founder of the Kilgore Ceramics Corporation, a company that manufactured bathroom fixtures. In 1952, the Texas Junior Chamber of Commerce honored him as one of the year's "five outstanding young men," for the role he played in the establishment and success of the Kilgore Ceramics Corporation. Kilgore Ceramics was eventually sold to Mansfield Plumbing Corporation and shut down in 2002 as a result of labor disputes.
Mr. Walkup was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church where he was a loyal member of the Masters' Sunday School class. He was dedicated to public service throughout his life. In the late fifties he served two terms as a Kilgore City Commissioner. He also served on several hospital boards in East Texas.

I live in Greenwood, SC. I don't know much about my family at all except they said our name was from the Scottish decent. My father's name is Gary Lewis Walkup and I'm his only heir and unfortunately, I'm female and won't carry on the name since my sons are grown and have my married name, but I returned to the Walkup name now. I have a photo album that dates back to 1938-1960, but I don't have a clue who they are. It looks like some of them were taken in NC, or Virginia (unmistakeable Blue Ridge mountains.) Some have first names & there's a truck in the picture with a logo on it E.L. Long, apparently from a buisness owned, but it could have been on my G'mother's side. Also a picture of the Devil Dogs Marines from Quantico, Vs. on sea maneuvers (No one specificly mentioned here. There is one of a Charlie in Norfolk Va., but no last name. I have other first names of people in the pictures, some of them with dates, but no clue. If anyone can help me, please let me know as I don't have a clue. My G'father Walkup died when I was very young as he was born approximately around 1900. I don't know his name, but I can find out. My Father doesn't remember much, but surely he knows his Father's name.

I live in Greenwood, SC. I don't know my grandfathers name, but I believe according to scattered searches that he may have been from Lancaster, SC. I don't know anything about this stuff. I inherited a photo album from 1938-1960 from his late wife Virginia. He died when I was very young around 1974? and I believe he was about 60 or so in 1950's. He was in his 60's when my aunt was born in 1960. I wish I could figure all this out, but I've just begun. I've spent hours reading and found nothing much because I don't know his name. I can't even find his death records...via internet, maybe if I go to the library. Anyway, he had a son, my dad, Gary Lewis Walkup born 1942? and a daughter, my aunt Gloria Ann Walkup born 1960 who was murdered in 1978 at 18yrs. old. He was much, much older than my granmother Virginia (don't know maiden name) and was in his 40's when my dad was born. I'm suspecting there may be sibblings of my father's out there from a previous marriage perhaps...I just don't know. I know his mother flew regularly to another country to see relatives where she was from. I'm thinking possibly he could be Samuel L.Walkup born in Lancaster, SC and was in Florence, SC in the 1930 census. I'm 'theorizing' this based on the 'L' middle name and my fathers middle name Lewis and the approx. birth date of 1896 and SC location. Just a possibility. I need help.

THANKS!!!
Kim

(Kimberly Anne Walkup, SC)

I'm a redheaded, blue eyed Walkup from Greenwood, SC. My grandfather was born around 1900 give or take, my father was Gary Lewis Walkup, but I don't know anything about my family. My dad was blonde/red headed, blue eyed and so was my grandfather, but my grandmother was redheaded too. Hmmmm? I have an old photo album, but I don't know who anyone is. If you could send me a copy of that photo or post it here or both, that would be great.

THANKS,
Kim

(Kimberly Anne Walkup)

Hi Debby,

I don't know if you're still around, but I, too, am descended from Susanna Walkup. Here are some bits and pieces of what I have.

Framingham, Middlesex Co., MA
[History of Framingham, page 735]

Susa, d. of Henderson, bp. He married 5 wives and was the father of 17 children. He married (1) Susannah Clements of Hopk., who was bapt. and made prof. of faith May 20, 1759. Chil. Hannah, b. May 27, 1759; Sarah, bap. Sept. 4, 1735; William, b. Sept. 24, 1740.

George 1, came from Reading to Framingham 1689; and, with consent of Gov. Danforth, took up lands on the north side of the South part to Marlboro; built where is a cellar hole to the N. of the Ebenezer Warren place; he afterwards leased of Gov. Danforth the Half mile Square, lying East of Nobscot, and built, a short distance NW of where H.S. Whittemore now lives. He recd. a deed of this 160 acres Jan. 10, 1705, from the heirs of Gov. Danforth; sold the E. half to Jonas Eaton, and occupied the rest, as did his son, and grandsons; grand jury man 1722; died 1748. He married Nov. 4, 1688, Naomi Stevenson of Reading.
