Jasper Newton Wall, b. 1817, was my great grandfather, m. E. Lawrence. They lived in what is now Webster County, Mississippi, around Embry and Providence areas. Would love to confirm that and connect to next previous generation.
Other information: Siblings of Jasper Newson: Adeline, Belle, Jerry, R. Dee, William, John Archelaus, Henry Newton, Columbus Marshall, Barnum Bascomb and Edmund Marshall (b. 1870). My father, Marshall Duell Wall, was son of Edmund Marshall Wall.

I am still trying to locate information about Patrick and Ellen (Walsh) Wall and their children. I know that some of the family was buried at the Rathpatrick Parish Cemetery.
Lewis Wall, mentioned at the bottom of your thread, is my ggg-grandfather. I have also been trying to research the parents of Hiram Wall, but have been unable to find anything conclusive. As you mentioned, he shows up in the census records from 1860-1910, but prior to that I have been unable to find anything.

Would you happen to have any new information since the date of your last posting?

Re: Hiram WALL / Hiram C. WALL

Randall Dwight Wall posted this online so I am sure it
can be used on this entry. He can be reached at rndlwall@aol.com and I agree that his search does lead in the general direction of NC or VA due to a close match with our WALL DNA.

I have been checking census data to see who was close by Wells County during this time. So far I have Allen WALL, Solomon WALL, William N. WALL, in 1830 close by where Wells County was formed in 1835, and later in 1840 we have what looks like a widowed Sarah WALL in Randolph County, IN next door to Solomon WALL. All these WALLS have NC roots I think.

There was a Hiram PLUMMER who married Lydia VICKERY, who was sister to Jereter VICKERY, wife of my Wiley WALL. Hiram and Lydia married in 1825 in Fayette Co IN. They lived in Rush Co IN in 1830 and 1840, but by 1850 they were living in Tipton Co IN. Hiram was born in NC in 1802. I do not have any other Hiram evidence other than this possible tie with WALL and VICKERY in this general area of Indiana. Britten WALL, Wiley's brother, did settle in Grant County, IN very early, about 1837. Grant County is not far from Wells County. See Indiana County Formation to see which counties were formed during the time that Hiram would have been born. There was a boy of Hiram's age, 10-15 years old, living with Sarah WALL in Randolph County, IN during the 1840 Census.

Source: WALL-L@rootsweb.com
From: rndlwall@aol.com
Subject: parents of Hiram Wall

This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this
mailing list.

Surnames: wall, penn, fields, swoveland
Classification: Query

Message Board URL:

http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/XRVBAIB/1424

Message Board Post:

Hiram Wall(my g.g.grandfather) born 1828 (IN?) married
Delila Clawson
1/30/ 1851in Adams Co., IN.
He remarried Jemima Cannady 4/27/1872.
He died 6/8/1910 in Wells Co., IN. One of his sons
was Hiram Clayton
Wall born in Wells Co. in 1863 and married to Mary M.
Blocher(Blocker)
4/2/1887 in Wells Co., IN.
My search leads me in the direction of Samuel Wall of
NC. but I cannot
confirm it. Any help our there?
PS. I am a participant in the Wall(s) DNA project.
Re: Hiram WALL / Hiram C. WALL

OK, now I am intrigued by this Hiram WALL. From 1860 to 1900 he is very consistent about his age being born 1828 or 1829 and also very consistent about the fact he was born in Indiana. He is also consistent about the fact he does not know where his parents were born. The 1880 and 1900 censuses both say UNKNOWN for his parents, so that is not a mistake. Hiram may not have known where his parents were born; maybe he was adopted when very young. The problem with this is that there were very few people in Indiana in 1828, and those WALLS and WALL families in the state during the 1830 Census amount to just a few families!

The 1870 Census was very interesting, due to the names of Hiram's oldest children. These names evoke ties to North Carolina or Virginia, which is where most of the WALL and WALLS of Indiana originated. My Wiley WALL, for example, named a son Josiah in October of 1825. Wiley's brother, Jesse, married a woman named Malinda. Delila is a known WALL female name in one or two related lines. I don't know about the name Hiram itself, but it is an uncommon name and we should hopefully be able to find its inspiration in NC or Virginia. Josiah is also fairly uncommon. Josephine is uncommon. I see on the 1870 census he named a son Amos E. Wall and another daughter Ellen. Both those names are not common names and should indicate a NC or VA origin, although some WALLS came from Kentucky and Ohio. However, those KY Walls came from NC mostly, before arriving in Indiana, and the Ohio Walls came from PA before coming to Indiana. I tend to think NC or VA, though.

1860 Census, Lynn Grove, Nottingham twp., Wells Co., IN
Hiram Wall 31 IN
Delila Wall 30 OH
Josiah Wall 7 IN
Lewis C Wall 6 IN
Josephine Wall 3 IN
Malinda Wall 1 IN
Kurt,

This information is very helpful. Did this come down only through your own family records? Do you have any family photos?? Please email me offline at twwalls@prodigy.net so we can establish a more direct link.

The name Allen almost certainly was for Hiram's father. FYI, an Allen Wall settled in Randolph County, Indiana in the 1810-1820 time frame, and on the 1830 census, I show the following information for his family:

1830 Census, Randolph Co., IN, Ward Township
Allen Wall
2 males under 5 (presumed to be *Hiram*, born 1828, aged 2, and perhaps Moses, born 1822, aged 8)
1 male 10-15 (Solomon, born 1818, aged 12)
1 male 40-50 (born 1780-1790)
1 female under 5 (Isabel, born August 1830, probably counted anyway.)
1 female 5-10 (Matilda, born 1820, aged 10)
1 female 10-15 (Lucinda, born 1816, aged 14)
1 female 15-20 (Rebecca, born 1814, aged 16)
1 female 30-40

1840 Census, Randolph Co., IN, Ward Township
Solomon WALL
1 male 20-30
2 females under 5
1 female 20-30

Sarah WALL
2 males 5-10
1 male 10-15 (b. 1826-1830, may fit *Hiram* WALL of Wells Co IN))
1 male 15-20 (b. 1821-1825)
1 female 5-10
1 female 15-20
1 female 40-50 (1790-1800)

(note: Hiram named a son Josiah Allen WALL, b. about 1853. Hiram m. Delila CLAWSON on 30 Jan 1851 in Adams Co., IN)

Hello, My birth name was Mickey A. Murphy, later changed to Thomas L. Murphy later knighted so am now until I die, Sir Thomas L. Murphy my father is Patrick Steven Murphy born 1906-1945 under the name Roscoe Orin Wall who had 3 families. 1st wife was Ruth Brennan md 1930, issue (1) Patrick O.Gates b 1930 (Roscoe went under the name Stephen R. Gates Jr. and was called Russell at this time.) 2. md Charlotte( 4 children which I am one ). 3rd time not married out of wed lock was female born to a now Ms
Williams. Orin 1825-1891 ; Steven 1791- 1845; John 1746-1831
Steven Roscoe Wall 1857-1934 md Lillie Ada Slee md abt 1900 they had Isabel, Roscoe,Ethel and a baby which died early in life. Where do you fit?? I have been doing this genealogy over 30 years and refused information to outsiders to just copy and print like the girls who wrote Walls of Walltown without checking their facts!! Steven and Lillie never had a cent which didn't come from Amanda and the Judge (Orin). Their children left the home early in life and married early divorced and remarried. They both worked for the government in D. C., They both died almost broke and seperated from each other at the time of their death. look at the deeds of the Blair house in D. C. Probate Records... I was told this same tale years ago. Then proved it false..Steven's father was a (Black )judge in D.C. until his death and their home and estate was divided at the time of his wife Amanda's Death in 1902. They had 7 children I have given you MUCH, not knowing where you fit in this family??
Sir Thomas L.
My father's name is Arthur Everett Wall. He was born 7-27-1912 and is still living. My great great Grandfather is James Wall who was born in Williamstown, Mass. as were some of his siblings. One brother was born in Kansas.....His parents were both born in Ireland, supposedly in Limerick. and most of the family ended up in Rockton, Illinois. Is it just an amazing coincidence that this name shows up again????? My name is Jeanine Wall and I live in Chicago and would be happy to correspond with you.

My Wall family which I have traced back to Ezekiel Wall, born 1781 in Maryland, migrated to Georgia ca 1800 and slowly moved into Alabama, and finally Mississippi. He died ca 1860's.
DNA has proven that this Ezekiel is related to Shadrack Wall who was also born in MD.

Jean Wall McCullough
Ljm39@aol.com

These include conveyances involving William Wall, Joshua Wall, Levin Wall, and Thomas Wall.

CW

Colonial era Walls in Dorchester County Maryland

I'm looking for anyone who knows much about Wall persons in colonial Maryland, specifically Dorchester County.

I'm trying to nail down conclusively the lineage of Jesse Wall, born perhaps in 1783 or so in Dorchester and later moved to GA. I've heard it is Henry Ezekiel, born 1755, and I know Jesse had a son named William Ezekiel Wall.

Today I visited the MD archives and found many different instances of Wall in Dorchester Cty MD in the 1700s but nothing really conclusive.

Here is what I have (all specific to Dorchester Cty): Will of a William Wall from 1772, mentioning wife Rebecca and son Ezekiell, also children Rebecca, Betsoy, Allen, John, and Robert (my transciption) and other children William, Thomas, and Frankey; Will from Joseph Wall mentioning his wife Rachel and an unborn child in 1717; a 1758 will from a sick Rebecca Wall mentioning her sons Levin Wall and Joshua Wall; a 1771 Will of Thomas Wall mentioning his wife Rachel, soninlaw John Russell, and a property called Walls Meadow.

Also found a book on revolutionary patriots from Dorchester County mentioning David Wall (enlist 1778), Jesse Wall (enlist 1778), Levin Wall, (supplied pork in 1782), Patrick Wall (1778), Sarah Wall (related to Thomas Hicks), Thomas Wall (1778), and a long entry on William Wall, who joined, deserted, rejoined, and then collected pension until his death at age approx 104.

If anyone has put together any details on the Dorchester Wall family, I'd love to see it and even help flesh it out if I can!

Charles Wall
I do not know anything conclusive, but I do know that my generation moved down south to Georgia from Maryland in the early 1800s for land lotteries. It would make sense that Walls coming from Maryland to that general area would be related. I know Rebecca is a name I've seen in recent research I've done related to colonial era Dorchester County MD, and Ezekiel Wall is also a name from that area. So they could be family names. I'm not sure what to make of the addition of the "s" at the end of "Wall".

I descend from Rebecca Walls (b. 1813 SC) who married Wyatt C. Lett in 1831 in Fayette Co., GA, and they moved to Chambers Co., AL. They appear in Dist. 19 of Chambers Co. 1850 Census.

There was an Ezekiel Walls (b. GA 1791) also in Dist. 19 of Chambers Co., AL. 1850 Census. Ezekiel Walls b. 1781 in Md is in MS in 1850 with a Rebecca.

Do you know of any connection between the Walls from MD and Rebecca Walls (b. 1813 SC) who married Wyatt C. Lett?
I received some information previous that indicated there might be a connection.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Phyllis in GA
Wall or Walls Name

Regarding the addition of the "s" at the end of Wall -- early writers often put a little loop on the ends of words, and this loop could be interpreted as an "s". This is the way many early names acquired an "e" or "s" on the end. Spelling of many words dependeded on the ear or penmanship of the writer.

Tamara,

My grandmother was Mary Jane Wall originally from Ireland, she moved to Massachusetts where she married and raised her family. Your family that you mention in your post where her cousins. I have many pictures from the 40's of my grandmother and many Walls from Indiana. these pictures along with this site has helped me build my family tree. Her father was Philip Wall her mother was a Dywer (no first name available). I am thinking that Christopher Wall of Indiana might be his brother, I have no proof. My grandmother had a brother Christopher (moved to Massachusetts and a brother Peter who stayed in Ireland, they where from Davidstown Slane County Meath. Any additional information you may need I may have attached to my tree.

Mary

Hi my great great (?great) Grandfather was James Wall born 1809 - 1879. I don't know if he was one of Samuel's brothers but we are planning a reunion in NZ from James' line. James was married in Cong, Co Mayo, Ireland if that helps.
Cheers lynne

William A Wall(s)

I have info for William Walls.
According to the death cetificate for Nellie Walls(my grandmother) her father was W.A. Walls and her mother was Inez Smith. With this info I have tied the 1900 and 1920 census records together.

1900 census Montague County, TX
William A Walls (parents father-TN mother-TN)
Ines Walls
Gracie Walls
(James)Euell Walls
Jessee Walls
Auther(Arther) Walls
Elmer Walls

1920 census Montague County, TX
W.A. Wall(widowed) (parents father-GA mother-TN)
Willis S Wall
Albert D Wall
Brye(Bruce) Wall
Gracie Wall(I guess she lied about her age) Carl Wilson(Gracie's son from her former husband)
Nellie Benson
(Jasper Hugh)Lee Benson
Lela Benson(my aunt).

As for the parents of William Walls, I have found two possible sets of parents
1- John Washington Walls(TN) and Francis Ann Moulder(TN) in Benton county,AR. This is supported by the 1900 census

2- James T Wall(GA) and Margaret Hulda Rogers(TN) in Madison county, AR. This is supported by the 1920 census, and the WWI draft card for James E Wall has his birth as being in Madison County, AR.

I havn't been able to find a death date for William Walls yet but it's after 1920 and probably before 1930.

Mary (May) Wall

Hi, Can anyone help me?
I am trying to find any details on a Mary Wall (possibly May Wall) who was living in Weymouth Street, St Marylebone, London, she was working there as a housemaid in one of these houses in 1929. I believe she was born in 1900 but where she was born I have no details, I cannot find any trace of her after she went to live in residence in Hampstead Road in August 1929. Any help would be gratefully received.
