Hi Curtis, My name is Robert E. Walston, I descend from Philip Walston of Greene CO. NC. b.c. 1750? Im part of a Familytree DNA Walston group. I was wondering if you could ask any of Ray's surviving male Walston relatives if they would like to be a part of our DNA group? I would love to find out if Ray's Walston's and the rest of the groups Walston's are related. You can reply to me at rew16505@yahoo.com I look forward to hearing from you.

I am back looking at Charles Walston. A year has passed since we corresponded here about the Charles Walston who (probably) married a Nancy Maddux. Did you continue your research and do you have some new information? I would like to pin down this Charles Walston and his wife.

hgraves1@frontiernet.net

Miller Walston or Millard Walston, 1855 Illinois

Looking Miller Walston or Millard Walston. Census 1870 lists Miller Walston born Illinois 1855, son of Charles Walston and Margaret Harper. The only other reference I have found is the Illinois 1876 marriage of Millard Walston and Sarah Bray. Does anyone know if these are the same person, Miller/Millard?

Walston DNA Project Update

There is a relatively new Walston DNA Project that uses the Family Tree DNA company. As the coordinator for the Walston DNA Project, I have compiled a list of all Walston immigrants who came to American 1600-1700 and have identified many of their lines.

The link for our Walston DNA project website is www.familytreedna.com/public/Walston.

Regarding the Walston branch who arrived in VA and then migrated c. 1700 to North Carolina, the results of 3 DNA testers are in. There is a 4th DNA test at the lab right now and a 5th test has just been mailed to the lab. When the results of these two Walston testers are known, they will be compared to the others to see if they share a common ancestor. DNA testing can provide a lot of answers on the Walston lines.

Updates on the progress of the Walston DNA Project will be posted on the Walston mailing list. If you are interested in the results or have a Walston query or information to share, please subscribe to the Walston mailing list. It is free.

To subscribe, send an email to Walston-L-request@rootsweb.com. In the message area, type in just one word... subscribe ... then send the email.

Hope we get some new subscribers to share their Walston info. Frequently I post info I have on various lines to the list as do others who are researching Walston.

Please join to share and compare your research.

Helen Graves
hgraves1@frontiernet.net

I can't help you with which Maddux daughter married Charles Walston. Perhaps you can help me, tho.

Who were the parents of Charles Walston? Do you know which Boaz Walston witnessed the will? Do you know who the John Walston was?

I have a Boaz Walston dying c. 1770; his spouse was Catherine Curtis. I may have an incomplete family group sheet for their children. I do have a son John Walston for them. Was the John Walston who witnessed the will, their son -- and was he the father of Charles Walston?

Thanks for any help.

Penina Walston (born 1810 in NC) married Thomas Van Swearingen on Jan 1, 1829, in Gallatin Co., IL. They appear on the 1830 Gallatin Co., IL, census. By 1840, they had moved to St. Francois Co., MO. I believe she is the sister of my ancestor Levi Moore Walston (born Greene Co., NC) who came to Gallatin Co., IL, in 1819. He married there in 1822 and lived there until 1845, then moved to St. Francois Co., MO, with his wife and unmarried children. I am seeking Walston-Van Swearingen descendants.
Wondering if there is a connection with my Hardin County, Texas Walstons. Mine descend from William A. Walston who served in the Civil War. They mostly ended up in Saratoga, Texas and I have a few photos of this family from 1904-05. Contact me at JnSDudley@aol.com

If you have a Walston in your family tree, please join the Walston mailing list. Members who are on the list share information, post their brick walls, ask questions ... it's a good way to connect with other Walston surname researchers.

As Walston List Mom, I occasionally post Walston information as found in my research folders or something I just ran into on the net about a Walston or Walston family.
I am also the coordinator of the new (April 2008) Walston DNA project. I post updated info about the project on the Walston mailing list so that you will know the latest news.

To join the mailing list (it's free), send an email to Walston-request@rootsweb.com Leave the subject line blank.
In the message area, type in just one word: subscribe

Send it off and you will automatically receive a welcome message. I am looking forward to having new Walston researchers join our list to share and compare information.
Helen Graves, Walston List Administrator. I descend from Levi Moore Walston born ca 1792 in Greene Co, NC, but I hunt and gather all Walston info and then put it on the Mailng List.

Nancy, I just saw your post. My husband is a Walston. His family is descendent from Ebenezer and Eliza Walston (Melson). They had Alexander J, Charles G and Ann. Alexander married Annie E. Jones and Charles married Mary F. Connelly. Alexander had several children, but I am only aware of George C and Henry J surviving to adulthood. I am not sure of George's children, but Henry J. married Sallie V. Neal from Caroline County and lived in Bridgeville, DE. They had Lawrence C. (died in infancy) and Carl N. Are these names in your Walston line? I have not been able to find out who Ebenezer's parents were. Alexander J. is buried in Rockawalkin in a family plot and Henry J. and Sallie V. are buried in Concord Methodist Church in Denton, MD. Thanks.

Sorry for the delayed response............
My Lemuel Walston was born 1872 in Texas. His date of death I believe between 1906 and 1910. He is buried in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cameron, TX. His Mother was Susan S. Ratliff, born 1847 in Mississippi. His Father was John P. Walston, born 1830 in the Atlantic Ocean. John's Parents were from Russia & Portugal. I believe John & Susan were married in Miss. 12/15/1859
Lemuel only had one child (I believe) Raymond Henry Walston born 1906 (My grand father)
Lemuel was married to a Lillian Meixner
Lemuel is my gg grandfather.
Thomas Sidney was wounded in the Civil War and died several years later at Jeff Davis' mansion Beviour(SP?). His father came from Alabama. I believe that William's father was John but can't verify. They are connected with my ggg, William who moved to MS about 1840. They all go back to the NC Waltons but I can't find the right link. Good luck finding the details, you now know where to focus.
Randy

Re: Charles and Boaz Walston of Somerset or Worcester Co, MD

Helen,

Since my research interest is the Madduxes, I really can't answer all your questions about the Walstons. I can only tell you what I know about this Charles Walston.

He was probably born in 1750s. He probably was not married to the Maddux daughter in 1774 when Bell Maddux, her father, wrote his will. He had married the Maddux daughter by 1797 when Margaret Maddux wrote her will and referred to him as her son-in-law. There are 4 daughters whose husbands have not been identified: Nancy, Betty, Rachel, and Amelia.

I believe he was the Charles Walston who showed up in the 1810 census of Fleming Co, KY; then he is listed in the 1820 census for Lewis Co, KY. He purchased land in Lewis Co 1810, 1811,, and 1812 in Lewis County. A Levin Walston (his son?) purchased land there in 1823, 1830, and 1831. Zorabable Maddux, son of Bell and Margaret Maddux, also settled in Fleming/Lewis County in 1794.

Margaret Maddux sold her property to Charles Walston in 1791; 92 acres called "Riggans Addition." I haven't been able to find the deed where Charles sold this land.

Merrill Maddux of Somerset Co sold 54 acres called "Oak Ridge" to Charles in 1802. Merrill Maddux also sold contiguous land to Margaret Maddux in 1784. Up until this weekend I had not been able to find when Charles sold this property. But I did a lot of deed searching and found a deed indexed for "George Walston" that was really for Charles. Charles sold "Oak Ridge" to John Powell in 1802, about 6 months after he bought it from Merrill Maddux. Boaz Walston witnessed both of these deeds. The second deed named Charles' wife, Nancy. I can't say without a doubt that this Nancy is Nancy Maddux, but it certainly looks promising.

Charles and Boaz Walston of Somerset or Worcester Co, MD

Margaret Maddux of Worcester Co, MD wrote a will dated 18 March 1797 that was witnessed by Boaz Walston, John Walston and William Powell. Margaret's son-in-law, Charles Walston, was named executor. I'm trying to determine which Maddux daughter Charles Walston married. It's possible this wife was deceased by the time the will was written in 1797. Does anyone have any information about this Walston-Maddux connection?

Hi Glenda,
The Abe Rounsavall who married your grandmother Grace was my grandfather. He was married to my grandmother Ida Johnson and they had one child Grace Christine in September 1927. They divorced the next year. I know that the child Travis lived in Houston. I don't have a lot of info, but would be glad to exchange what we can,
Mabeline Smith
