Waltons in Georgia, Meriwether County

I come from a Walton family in Meriwether County Georgia. My grgrandfather Tilman Walton (wife was Washie or Big Mama as my mother calls her) was the son of either William or Thomas Walton. I don't know which. Wlm or Thms father was Thomas Walton who is listed in the 1870 census. He was 34 in 1870 giving him a birthdate of 1836. That's as far as one day of research has gotten me. I know that Meriwether Co. was chartered in 1827 or 1828. Logic tells me that Thomas Walton Sr.'s father may have moved from Wilkes Co. for the land. If anyone has any idea about the Waltons to which I am referring, I would like to hear any information. I am very interested.

Walton and Scott -- Chester Co. PA and Baltimore MD

Searching for other descendants and further evidence to corroborate the following: Moses SCOTT was born abt 1720 and died Mar 1777 in Cecil Co. MD. (per "Magruder's Maryland Colonial Abstracts."). He married Elizabeth ------ abt 1743, and had known children Thomas (b abt 1744), Mary (b abt 1746), Moses (bc 1748), Robert (b abt 1750), John (bc 1752), William (bc 1754), Isaac (b 12 Jun 1756, d 3 Oct 1833), Matthew (bc 1758), Elizabeth (bc 1760), James (bc 1762, d 1830-1840), Eleanor (bc 1764), and Violet (bc 1766). Some dates are my estimates. His son James SCOTT, was married abt 1786 to Jane GIBSON, daughter of John and Mary GIBSON of New London Twp., Chester Co PA (per her father John Gibson's will). In 1795, James bought 102 acres of land on Big Elk Creek, East Nottingham Twp., in Chester Co, PA (per deed). Part of this land may have been located partly in East Nottingham, Cecil Co, MD, just across the PA/MD border. James and Jane SCOTT sold abt 66 acres of this land in 1813 (per deed), and moved to Howland Twp., Trumbull Co., OH, when they lived out their lives. Above is per deposition taken 2 Oct 1832 at Warren, Trumbull County, OH, relating to the Revolutionary War service of James's brother, Isaac Scott.
James and Jane (GIBSON) SCOTT had a daughter, Mary Scott (1789/90-1868), who is believed to be the same Mary SCOTT who was married Feb 1809 (per Sturtevant Family Bible) to Elijah WALTON (1787-1856), probably in Chester County, PA. The Waltons had eleven identified children (per Sturtevant Family Bible).

I have discovered two Walton lines in my family that may or may not in fact be the same line.
I have William James Walton born May 20, 1875 in Pennsylvania and married on Sept 13, 1899 to Sarah(Sadie) C Allen born Aug 1877. They had two children that I know of.A son Albert William Walton born Jan 11, 1912 and died Dec 16,1985. They also had a daughter named Mabel Sarah Walton born around 1915. I don't know who William's parents are but he lived in East Fallowfield, Coatesville, West Grove, West Chester Area of Chester County, Pennsylvania.
I also have John Walton born around 1834 in Chester County, Pa and died around 1890 in Chester County,Pa. He was married Nov 15,1866 to Mary H Pearce. They had 4 children Natoria born 1871, Horace J born 1873,Elizabeth G born 1875, and Clifton G born 1878.
Anyone know William James Walton's parents or John Walton's parents? Anyone know if this is the same family line of Waltons?

Wade Hampton Walton

I am hopeful someone has information of Wade Hampton Walton. He was born apx 1818 in South Carolina (Maybe North Carolina). The census say S.C., but once he does say N.C. We think he might have been born in Saula or Old Edgefield, South Carolina. He moved to Georgia where he married Mary Shaw and then moved to Mississipi and then to Indiana and on to Kentucky where he died.

I am trying to find out who his parents were!

The theory we have at the moment is he was the second or third son of William Walton. William Walton we think was of the Biberry (bibery) Waltons. We cannot prove this at this time.

Email me at computeralive@yahoo.com if you have information please. Or, you can respond to this as well.

Thank you in advance!

Searching for Elizabeth's surname before she married Richard Walton and their marriage date in Isle of Wight Co., VA. There is some connection with Thomas Moore as he was the legatee in Elizabeth's will and the surety for her at the request for administration of Richard's will. Richard died intestate. Also Priscilla Champion was a witness with George Moore and Margaret Williams for Elizabeth's will.

I am trying to trace my family history and hopefully find and get to know some lost relatives . I was seperated from my father at only a few months old, it took me over 30 years to find him and unfortunately he has not kept in touch with his family and has forgotten a lot and could not provide me wth much other than names and a general area to look in. I have his grandparents names and their children listed below. I don't know if the order of things is correct but I am sure of the names and the state of Iowa. My name is John Walton (named after my father).
My father's grandparents were VERNA OLGA CRIST who was born December 04, 1890 in Cass Co, IA, and died August 06, 1959 in Creston, IA - Graceland cem. She married DAVID CHARLES WALTON December 06, 1911 in Fontanelle, IA. He was born April 11, 1883 in Adair Co, IA, and died February 08, 1950 in Clarinda, IA - Graceland cem Creston, IA. THEIR CHILDREN WERE: IRVAN JOHN WALTON, (my father's father)
EDITH MAY WALTON,
ELDA ELISA WALTON,
LABERTA ADA WALTON,
RUBY MARGARET WALTON,
BLANCHE MADGE WALTON.
DAVID EUGENT WALTON. My father John henry Walton born 10/07/1933 is the son of Irvan John Walton who I believe was married to Mildred Evelyn Keena. This is as much as I know, It is my understanding most of our relatives are still in Iowa. Any help in locating any of my relatives would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone have information on Caroline Dickey? She was a daughter of Walter R. and Jeanette (Walton) Dickey and was born in 1873 in New York. Her mother Jeanette (Jennette, Jenet, spelled variously)was a daughter of Oliver Walton. For some time after 1905 Caroline lived in Massachusetts with her mother and brother. I know the death and burial of all her family except for Caroline. If anyone knows any information on her, I would like to know when and where she died and if she may have been married again after her divorce in 1905.

Walton line from Virginia

I have just come across info that the line we are researching goes back several generations to the Cumberland, VA area and surrounding areas. The farthest back I have been able to go is to Edward Walton who was born in 1682 in New Kent Co., VA. In abt 1698 he married Elizabeth Mason had a son named Thomas Walton - b 2/20/1703 - Thomas had a son named Robert Walton - b Sep. 25, 1749, and then Robert's son named Thomas Hobson Walton. Subsequently, our most recent descendants are Ann Walton her daughter Sarah Venter/Vinter. Anybody out there recognize any of these names? Would appreciate any info at all.
Thanks!!

Walton - Henrico Co, VA

Looking for evidence related to Walton family located in Henrico County, VA, and connections.

The postings on the web show a John Walton, of "Yellow Tavern" in Henrico County, VA, and wife Sarah Piles as parents of Patsy, George, John L., Thomas, Benjamin, William and Claiborne Walton. No sources are given. Evidence suggests otherwise.

Henrico marriage records show that on 14 Dec 1796 a marriage bond was posted by John Walton Senr to marry Sally Piles. However, all of the children listed as their children were born 20 years before the marriage. This strongly suggests that Sally or Sarah was not their mother. The initial question, then, is: Who was (were) the earlier wife (wives) of John Walton of Henrico County?

The attribution of William and Claiborne to these parents is also questionable based on the evidence found so far. Both of these Waltons married daughters of Bartholomew Warren of Louisa County -- Claiborne to Mildred Warren in 1796, and William to Martha Warren in 1802. Claiborne & Mildred conveyed property in Louisa County to John Carroll, acknowledged the deed and relinquished dower on 12 Oct 1818, and removed to Kentucky.

More likely as children of John Walton of Henrico are the following:
1. Patsy Walton (b. 1765-1784 m. 28 Mar 1798 John Sneed, who d. bef 1810; in 1810, 2 males under 10; 1, 10-16)
2. George Walton (b.c. 1765 d. 1810-20; m. 20 Jan 1793 Nancy Sharpe)-- had at least 3 children.
3. John Walton (d. 1833; m. 4 Oct 1796, Mrs. Nancy Bagnois)
4. Thomas Walton (d. aft 8 May 1812; m. Frances Carrington, dau of Nathaniel)
5. Benjamin Walton (b. bef 4 Jun 1766; d. bef 1816; m. Sarah ______; had 9 children -- John and Polley (b bef 1795); Archibald, Betsey, Patsey, William, Benjamin, Joshua, and Robert (b. btw 1795 and 1816)).

Has anyone researched these families? Have sources? Read the deed of 4 Jun 1787 in Henrico DB 2, p 431?

Parents of Sophia A. (Walton) Frederick of Nova Scotia

I am seeking information on the parents of Sophia A. Walton. She was born on 23 May 1850 in Nova Scotia, Canada and died in 1909 in Taunton, Massachusetts, USA. Her husband was Freeman Frederick, also of Nova Scotia. I believe Sophia may have been related to a Welsley Walton; according to the 1901 Canadian census Welsley Walton (b. 1844) lived with Sophia and Freeman Frederick as a "lodger" in Kings County. I have found no evidence linking Welsley and Sophia as siblings.

I am trying to find a friend from high school, Mary Lynne Walton. She lived in Audubon, PA, and we both attended Methacton Jr.-Sr. High School. Lynne graduated in 1970, I was a year behind.
Lynne married, I believe his name was Wayne Miller, and I believe they got divorced. They had two daughters, Bridget and Maureen.
Lynne had an older sister, I think her name was Kathy, and a younger sister and brother, Bonnie and Jimmy. I know she talked about the family possibly moving, to Virginia, I think.
I would love to reconnect with her.

Deb (Tyson) Stanish
Reading, PA

Can anyone help,(even places to search)? I have three documents pertaining to my greatgrandfather, John Walton,(marriage licence,1881 census and his death certificate), however, from each certificate, a different birth year is found. His father's name on the marriage licence is John and both the marriage licence and the census return give his place of birth as being Stanhope. Stanhope parish is probably the largest parish in the area and extends far up into Weardale.

Waltons - late 1700s / early 1800s - possibly Chenango or Cattaraugus or Chautauqua Cos NY

I'm taking a stab in the dark. I'm looking for the first wife of Joseph Maxson Barber. He was born about 1890 in NY, with other siblings born in Richmond Washington Co NY during the next 10 years. Parents assumed to be Benjamin Barber and Sarah Tefft. The family appears to have been in Chenango Co NY in the early 1800s. Joseph and his first wife appear to have had daughter Eunice born 1816 and son AVERY WALTON born 1819. Reportedly in Cattaraugus Co. That is where Eunice (Barber) Bennett is buried. The first wife appears to have died by the early 1820s, as Joseph married Esther Terry during that time. Joseph and Esther appear in Chautauqua Co in an 1850 census.

Based on naming conventions, it seems reasonable to assume first wife may have had a parent named Avery or Walton, since those surnames were present in those areas at the time. Is anyone reporting a daughter born in the early 1890s -- say 1892, married by abt 1812 and deceased by 1822? Probably in Chenango or Cattaraugus or Chautauqua Co NY?

I am trying to trace Sarah Jane Walton born @ 1855 possibly around the Tarporley area. Her year of birth on the censuses varies between 1855 and 1860. I can not find her on the censuses prior to her marriage (she is on the 1891 census)nor can I find any birth record for her.

The earliest record I can find is her marriage certificate. In 1888 she married Peter Lovatt in Chester registry office. Her fathers name is given as JOSEPH WALTON, a labouer. At this time she was living in Clotton, cheshire.

She had her first child FRANK WALTON LOVATT in 1887.

Does this ring any bells or does anyone have any ideas of where to look next?

Any help welcome!

He married Mary Beck born 1802 at Bolton le Sands, Lancashire. I really need to know their parents and siblings, before I can move on.
Anybody could help me, would be extremely grateful,

Thanks in advance, Frank.

Early Walton Cemetery Pics in Columbia County GA

I was down researching the Appling, Evans area of Columbia county GA yesterday looking for family ties to Ramsey from the 1800's. While suveying cemeteries I found this one off the road in the woods and took the opportunity to make some pics for any Waltons that might want them. There were about a dozen graves in it from what I could tell, however not all head stones were legiable. Several had worn away leaving only a stubby rock marker.

Hope you enjoy,

Allen

* Interesting Footnote: I met two descendants of the Walton family while surveying the cemetery and was told that one of the Walton's buried here was a brother to the Walton that was a signer of the United States "Declaration of Independence". I believe this may be the one that has the DAR plaque on him tombstone.

I am trying to find information about my great-grandfather's first wife, Ella Mays Grow Walton. Charles came to West Virginia with his parents, N. Washington Walton and Jane C. Allen around 1870. He married Ella Mays Grow (previously married to William Grow, fate unknown) on February 16, 1892, in Wood County, WV. They lived in Huntington, WV, and I have found record of two children, an infant which died in 1894 and was buried in Spring Hill Cemetery, Charleston, WV, and a daughter, Bessie, born on June 10, 1895 in Cabell Co., WV. I haven't found out what happened to Ella and Bessie.
Around 1898, Charles and my great-grandmother, Emma, were married, but no one has found a marriage license. Emma had had a son, Charlie, before their marriage, and they had nine children of their own.
Any help would be appreciated.

Does anyone have the correct tree for the Morris County Waltons?

I have been searching for the parents of my 3rd great grandmother, Catherine Walton, b. 4 Dec 1787 in Pequannock, New Jersey. She married Aaron Pollard, b. 17 May 1787 in
Parsippany, Morris, New Jersey. I have been searching for her ancestry and have narrowed her father down to one, Reuben Walton, b. abt 1738 in Pequannock. He married Susannah ?. Reuben's father was John Walton, b. abt 1801 in New Jersey, married Anne, b. about 1818 in New Jersey.

I have made 3 trips to the Morristown Library and have found much information contradictory to what I find on the trees and on the message boards. Most trees have John and Anne moving to West Virginia and dying there, but this is not what I found.

John Walton lived and died in Morris County, New Jersey. He lived on the Walton farm in Rockaway, Morris, New Jersey. He is buried along with his wife and several of his children at the Old Walton Burial Ground located on what is now Picatinny Arsenal near the Walton farm. His headstone, legible in 1882 read, "John Walton, Died July 30, 1787, 87 years of Age" His wife Ann (d. 1791) lies next to him. His grandaughter, Agnes, who spent her life on the Walton Farm, is also buried there as well as Aaron and Catherine (According to the Pollard Bible).

His son John, b. 1735 married Elizabeth, b. 1742, became the second minister of the Morristown Baptist Church. He died 1 Oct 1770, wife Elizabeth d. 17 Mar 1791. Both are buried in the Morristown Baptist Churchyard. He did not live and die in West Virginia in 1808. According to all records at the library, John had 4 children:
Job b. abt 1733 in Pequannock
John, b. abt 1735 in Pequannock
Jacob. b. abt 1736 in Pequannock
Reuben, b. abt 1738 in Pequannock

Jacob had 5 children:
Mark, b. abt 1754 d. 22 Aug 1817 in Rockaway, New Jersey
John b. abt 1756
James, b. abt 1758
Job, b. abt. 1759
Amos, b. abt 1760, d. 1825 in Rockaway, New Jersey

At first I thought there may have been two John Walton's in Morris County, but have only found one. It is possible that all the trees are correct, but with the wrong John Walton, perhaps it the one who moved to West Virginia came from the Waltons in Monmouth County, New Jersey. There are many holes to fill on my tree, and I may never be able to fill them, but I did want to make others aware that there is a lot of misinformation out there on our Waltons.

I would love to find someone who is also researching the Morris County Waltons. Perhaps it can help me to sift through all the misinformation out there and get my tree in order.

Violet Ruth Walton

I am trying to trace my paternal grandmother, Violet Ruth Walton. She married my grandfather, William Herbert Williams. She was born either in Enid, OK or in the state of MO. She was born 9 Mar 1889. I have conflicting information as to place of birth: (1) Enid, OK or (2) Jamerson, MO. She died Oct 1933 and was buried in OK. It is believed that she lived in MO approximately 2-5 years before her death. It is believed that she would have been in the Cassville, MO area. She was married to her second husband at that time, John Bushey or John Bushy.
It appears that she may have had a brother by the name of Orry or Rollie (Rolley) Walton. She may have had a sister by the name of Mabel or it could have been her sister-in-law.
I am in possession of letter that she wrote 25 Aug 1925 in which she started the letter "Dear sister ome and all".
I have no link as to who her parents were. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Family of Josiah D Walton and Hattie Berdine, Iowa, Wisconsin, California

I am looking for any information on the family of Josiah Dunlap Walton and his wife Harriet (Hattie) Berdine, and their children Ellis (b. 15 Jan 1879), Harriet (b. abt. 1880), Ernest (b. abt 1880, Cyrus Arthur (b. 06 Aug 1882)and Elva (Elvie)(b. abt. 1885). The children were apparently all born in Iowa. It is possible that Josiah was born in New York abt. 1853. Hattie was born in either Illinois or Wisconsin 26 Oct 1850. The three sons migrated to California. Cyrus Arthur was married to Martha (Mattie) Goodell (b. 27 Oct 1875 in Michigan). I do not have any information on the daughters. Any information is most welcome.

Walton\Bell\Solliday of PA and possible VA Connection?

I need help piecing something together. My grandfather Lester John Bell(b 1900 d 1958) lived with William J (b1876 in Pa) and Sarah C( b 1878 in Pa) Walton in Chester County, Pennsylvania until he was 18 and referred to their children(Albert and Mabel) as his cousins. But in the census he is listed as a non-relative in their home. He also lists his nearest living relative (on his 1918 draft card) as being Anna Solliday from Va. On the census' he lists both Pennsylvania and Virginia as his birthplace. Does anyone have any idea of a connection between the Bell's, the Walton's and\or the Solliday's of Chester County, Pennsylvania or Virginia? I can't seem to link any of them.
