William Walton of Kanawha and wife Amanda, dau Lila, Sarah, Nancy - information desired

I have been searching for years to find Amanda who married William Walton of West Virginia around 1861. Together, they had 3 girls, Lila, Sarah and Nancy. This is listed on the 1870 Census record for Wilderness, Nicholas Co, WV.

Amanda (last name unknown) was the wife of John O. Bennett. Their son was named Amos O. Bennett. Amos is also listed on the 1870 census, but is listed as Amos Walton as he and Amanda are living with William Walton, after the marriage.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Teresa Bennett Whelan

I read this post about William. I am trying to track down the same information. My GGG grandfather was Benjamin Walton who is from Plymouth PA. His father was William Walton from Plymouth but I don't have any paperwork on that unless there are two Williams. IF you learn anymore please let me know. What I do know is: Benjamin>Eugene>Emil>John>to me. They are all from the Plymouth and Ashley PA area.

Ray Walton

Re: George Walton and Mary Parker in Peacham, VT

Again, I don't know if you are still reading this board, but I think there is a mixup somewhere. The George Walton who married Mary Parker is my 4th great grandfather. A clarification on his genealogy can be found in his grandson's biography, Eliakim Persons, son of Gen. Ezekiel Parker, son of George. One source is "Men of Vermont, Biographical History of Vermonters and Sons of Vermont" (have to use quotes because I can't underline) and another source is "The Bibliography of Vermont or A List of Books and Pamphlets Relating in Any Way to the State: With Biographical and Other Notes." Both of these state that Eliakim was descendant from George who was a descendant of George Walton (~1615-1686) of New Hampshire (originally from England).

I'm still trying to make the connection from George through his father John (in my genealogy) to George. There seems to be a black hole, so if you, or anyone has any further information i would love to hear it.

Jim
Re: Walton Name - Origin

In the 10 years since this posting I have been to England and Scotland looking into the name "Walton". There is only one "Walton" in England or Scotland. There are many others containing the name but this is the original.

It is a place on Hadrian's wall. The Romans built this wall to separate Scotland's Pict people from the peaceful Romans to the south. Work began about the year 100 and was finished in 350. In Walton (England - Cumbria) lies the last remaining Western section of the wall which is marked and buried for preservation by Dovecote Bridge. On top of the hill under the current Centurion Pub in Walton was a watch tower on the wall or a "Tun". These were the circular towers called "tuns" in the Anglo-Saxon language of the 600 to 700 AD when the town was founded. There then was first the "Waltun". To quote from the Walton A Short History, published by St. Mary's Church in Walton June 2006 (still available in the Church for one UK pound) "By the end of the 11th Century it was a small self contained farming village with a church in the center and a priest to serve the community. Enoch is recorded as the parson in 1060".

The most westerly wall remenent is there, covered under a bridge on the Cambeck, the town strem. The word "tun" became "town" and thus located on the wall this wall town became "Walton". It is on the western end of the wall which crosses between Newcastle on the East and Carlisle on the west.

7/11/09 I have finally found my connection beyond Albert Walton through your posts. I do not have any info to offer you as far as parentage but my decadency would be James Albert Walton (my father), Albert Foster Walton m Mary C. Crane, Albert Walton m Ida Jane Foster, Thomas Walton m __Palmer. I only recently was able to get the death certificate for Albert Walton and found his father’s and mother’s name. I would be grateful for any other info you have and would be glad to share what I have even though I can only get back through Albert and Ida Jane. I am Mary Kay Walker, email mkwrw@amerion.com. Please use subject line.
I'm not sure who sent it to Charlie but I'll check it might be from your father. I'll let you know. Joanne

Thank you so much for replying to my post. The Walton side of the family is my husbands. His father was Charles, son of Ivan, son of Maris and Helen (Harden) Walton. I have a picture of "Maris" Imlay on a baseball team that my father-in-law gave me and I believe a letter of some sort, I'll need to look. I am away from my house for a couple of days but as soon as I get back I'll check to see what else I have. If you would like a copy I would be happy to email it to you. Thanks again Joanne Walton

Lela, not sure how much I can help you. My father is Emory Clinton Clements. He has said he was married to June (that is what he called her), but it took until Brenda was in her teens before he would admit he was her father. He is in Colorado Springs, CO. The last I knew of Brenda, she was in either North or South Carolina, not sure which. We do have a brother also in Ocala, Florida that maybe in better touch with Brenda. I know that Brenda spoke of an aunt that helped raise her, but do not know much about that.

You may contact me at huntsmen64@gmail.com to get what other informaton I may know to help you in your search.

Thank you,

Dan Clements
