Hi Doreen,
From what I have found, so far, I do not think George's father was Benjamin. unless it was James Benjamin Thompson. In 1870 census Madison Co., Oh. George 20 and his brother charles 22, Amos 18, Alfred 16, Sarah 13, & Jesse 7 are living with parents James 48 and Catherine 46
1885 State census for Valley co., Nebraska Calamis Precinct, Valley county Nebraska George Thompson brn 1850, Harvey about 1882, OH. Lulu born about 1877, Jesse 1854 and Catherine born about 1824. 1885 census does not show everyone on page only names. Then it looks like George's mother is living with her sons. I am still working on George, so may find more.
Eva

I have a Jim Thompson also known as "Long Jim" so that would be the James W. Thompson. James "Jim" may possibly be buried in West Lawn-Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery in Omaha, Nebraska. I also have Jim married to an Ida. There is another brother by the name of Harvey who married a Sylvia. I know some of his brothers & sisters are. I have as possible children for Lulu & George Wampole: 04/13/1894 - George Elmer Wampole Jr, 09-__-1897 Charles Wampole, unknown date - Harvey Wampole, unknown date - Merle Wampole, __/__/1905 or 09/18/1906 - Fred M. Wampole, unknown - Harold Wampole, unknown - Horace Wampole, 01/18/1912 - Floyd Aarron Wampole, unknown - Della (Delia) Wampole. (She died of typhoid fever. No year of death. Her Dad, George, survived it. Does this help? Doreen

Thank you. I had found George Thompson in 1920 census living with James W. Thompson and wife Ida in Omaha, Nebraska and James had brothers Charles E age 15 and Dawson age 11 and a cousin Viva. Looks like James & Ida had three children. Do you know when James died or where ?
Charles Wampole & Lulu had 8 sons and one daughter and she was named Delia. She died of a ruptured appendex and did not marry. Lulu and Charles divorced and both married again. Charles Wampole went back to NY after divorce.
Thanks again, Eva

Hi, I have a Jim Thompson also known as "Long Jim" so that would be the James W. Thompson. I do have him married to a lady named Ida. There is also another brother named Harvey who married a Sylvia, possibly no children. I also have Della (Cordelia) died from typhoid fever that George survived. Lulu's father, George, married by Great-grandmother, Madeline "Maddy", after Della died & Maddy's first husband died. There are 13-14 half-brothers & half-sisters all together. I have another cousin looking up the Thompson side & she mentioned that several of the Thompson siblings did't have children. Is there more info that you would like? Lulu's grandfather is Benjamin Thompson but I don't know the mother's name. Some say he married a Sioux Indian woman, but I'm not sure. Thanks, Doreen

Lula May Thompson was born 24 Aug 1876 Madison co., OH. to George Thompson & Cordelia Rhoades/Rhoads. They were married 5 Nov 1875, Madison Co., OH. I am not sure just who their other children were except Lulu did have a brother James W. Thompson born June 1879. I think he may be the James Thompson who was the thirdd husband of Ida F. Smith Clayton Blair Thompson. This Ida was a step sister of Lulu's husband Charles Wampole. Charles s/o Abraham Wampole & Sarah E. Buck. Do you have any information on James Thompson and am I correct on who he married ??

FOUND HIM !
Abraham Wampole b. Jan 1828, Canisteo, Steuben, NY, was the father of several children and he was married several times. One part of his family was Frederick George or George Frederick[have found it both ways]m. Letha Swain and their sons were all born in Ord, NE.starting in 1924. When I checked the census records on your George Elmer noted in 1910 they lived in Dickinson co., Iowa and then remembered Abraham Wampole died Dickinson Co, Iowa in June 1915.
Abraham from his first marriage has Harriet b. 1855, Rhoda b. 1857 and Charles. I do not have a birth date for him but believe he is the Charles Wampole who married Lulu Thompson and had son George Elmer Wampole born 1894 Ord, NE.
So Charles Wampole who married Lulu was a half brother of the George F. Wampole in Ord, NE.
Thanks to your messages I have found Charles. Eva

Hi again, Just checked and George Elmer Wampole is not listed in Ord, Ne in any census after 1900. The 1900 census of Garfield Co, Ne list George with Charles & Lola or Lulu Wampole. In 1910 they are in Iowa and in 1920 back in NE. in Chadron, Dawes County. I will have to check my records more to see if Charles Wampole born 1866 is related as it is probably back in New York.

It has been very hard to get information from descendants of George Frederick Wampole & Letha Swain. On a trip to Broken Bow, NE my Aunt & Uncle took us to Ord to see what we could find. My Aunt Frieda was born in Ord. I found some birth and death records there.
Please e-mail me.
Hello, my name is Mark Wampole. As far as I know my grandfather was named Robert William Wampole and he was 100% mohawk indian. I am not sure if I am any relation to any other wampoles at all. But recently I have wanted to learn more about my roots. I would love to get an invitation so I can learn. Thank you.

This is a stab in the dark, but have you run across an Elizabeth Wampole who married Abraham Funk. She would have been born about 1862. One of her daughter's married into my family. They were from PA and the Funk family moved to Milwaukee in 1920.

Her first marriage was to Albert McGargle.
Either he past away or died shortly after their first child Alice was born (3/1886).

She later married Thomas Lamb and had Ellen b. 6/1889, John b. 10/1893 Joseph b. 9/1896 and Harry b. 9/1899

All of these events occur in Philadelphia.

Thanks!

-Carole

Janet,

I was wondering if you have uncovered any of Margaret's siblings or her parents. My gggrandmother's name was Alice Wampole. Although she is listed on the 1900, 1910 and 1920 census as Ellen. She settled in Philadelphia after her separation, (although I don't know why) from her first husband Albert McGargle. I don't believe she was originally from Philadelphia but one of the nearby suburbs.

I am planning a trip to the archive on the 24th of February and I will try and look her up on the 1880 census.

Thanks,
Carole

Wampole from Phila PA UPDATE

I think I am wrong about the name in my previous message.

My gggrandmother Wampole's first name may have been Ellen, Ella, or Eleanor.
Her middle name may have been Alice. I got this from the 1920 census. She was
married to Thomas Lamb and lived in the Frankford section of Philadelphia all of their lives.

My ggrandmother Alice Mcargaral Sheridan died at the age of 25 leaving 3 small children behind. Her mother signed
her death certificate, Alice Lamb. The certificate also stated that her maiden name was Wampole. She took in the children
and raised them. Their names were Alice I. b.1905, John T b.1907, and Joseph A b.1910.

Thanks Carole....docs1027@aol.com
