A biography/family history of Alexander Wandell, Montana farmer and ranchman, is included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol 3.

Alexander was born, 21 Apr 1857, son of Ephraim and Angeline (Tracy) Wandell. His father, Ephraim, was a farmer who had located to Iowa in 1854. He married Angeline in Cattaraugus County, NY. Children: Phineas, Edgewood, IA; Alexander, Sydney, MT; John, Waterloo, IA; Will, South Dakota; Timothy, Portland, OR; Ephraim, died in Harvard, IL; George, Frankfort, ND.

At age 19, Alexander worked as a farmhand and five years later went into the butter business, making butter for creameries in Iowa, Nebraska, and Wisconsin. In 1889, Alexander came from Delaware County, Iowa, to Montana where he became a farmer and rancher, retiring to Sydney, MT, in 1917.

On 3 Jul 1888, Delaware County, IA, Alexander married Miss Harriet Wells, born in Berrien County, MI, 5 Oct 1864, daughter of Lewis and Sarah (VanDerhoff) Wells. Lewis Wells was born 1827, Columbus, OH, and Sara was born 1837, Berrien County, MI, and they both died in Greely, IA, where they had come to farm in 1866.

Alex Wandell died 2 Nov 1950, age 93, Richland County, MT.
Harriet A. Wandell died 4 Apr 1948, age 82, Richland County, MT

I am searching for ancestors and descendants of Henry Wandell born in Newburgh, New York on 29 August 1762. He served in the Revolutionary War and is listed in various N.Y. census records as living in Cayuga, Ontario and Orange Counties. I am trying to establish relationship with my great-great grandfather, Henry Wandell who was born in N.Y. in 1801 and died in Marshall, Michigan in 1892.

The message you posted on David Wandell enabled me to link two DAR records on David and John Wandell both of whom served in the Revolutionary War. In fact, my ancestor, Henry who was David and John's brother also served in the Rev. War but nobody has yet filed an application. I hope that you have David Wandell's DAR application (#386924) filed by Greta Schneider in 1949 - if not let me know and I will send you a copy. Did you know he was a Private in Col. Spencer's Regiment; he was wounded at the Battle of Germantown and as a result, his right arm was amputated. The application lists one child, Pamelia Wandell b. 1793
Do you have any information on descendants of Henry Wandell b. 8/29/1762 in Newburgh, New York?

Am looking or information on Ralph Wandell, born abt. 1863, in Mehoopany, Wyoming County, PA. Died possibly 5 Apr 1945 ( Forty fort, PA ). Was married to Effie Mae Baker, born abt. 1874. The Bennett Family Tree , as presented to (Ralph's son) Baker Lawton Wandell, in 1987 gives the parents of George Ralph Wandell as John Wandell born 1805 and died 1897 and Ellen Lucas born 1826 and died 1912.

Have found Ellen (?Elanor) and John (not born 1805)and many children in the 1850 and 1860 census. So far have been unable to find anything for Ralph/George. He was Ralph when Baker was born in 1911 but was using Gerorge R. by 1938. Have documentation of his death.

Looking for information on Margaret Jane Wandell, born 27 Oct 1839. Her place of birth is mostly listed as Buffalo, NY, but one or two records list her pob as Albany, NY. The records listing the conflicting birth places are located in and around Hinsdale, NH and Brattleboro, VT.
Margaret maried John Lord King on 2 Aug 1860 in Brattleboro, VT. She died in Hinsdale NH on 25 Sep 1897, where she is buried.
John L and Margaret J are my maternal gggrandparents.
The marriage record does not list any information about Margaret's parents.

Staten Island Wandell's

Luckily, my family kept fairly decent records of the past few generations. I am a decendant of John Wandel throught the Peter Smith Wandell line. I am trying to shore up any info on the family from the late 1700's through to now.
I am also looking for information on the Wandell Memorial Chappell at Concord on Staten Island. This was an outgrowth of Kingsley Methodist Church.
Also of interest to me is connecting John Wandel to the earlier Wandel's in either Fishkill or Albany/ Troy area.

At this time, I do have a copy of an e-mail from Sis Watson (swatson@net-link.net) from 1998. She said "she was searching for descendents of Alexander Wandle (abt 1801, NY or Conn.) who married Phila Lamphere, res Cattaraugus County after 1831, possibly the son of either William or Alexander of New Windsor, Orange Co....moved to and died at Cox Creek Twsp, Clayton Co., Iowa."

Five years later, I am still searching for the children of Henry Wandell, born in Newburgh, NY in 1762, who fought in the Rev. War. Do you have any further info on the siblings of David Wandell who also fought in the Revolution? In particular, I am interested in one of his siblings named Henry that you had mentioned in 1999.

I have also found several Alexander Wandells born in NY in the 1800s who may have had a sibling named Henry.

My gggrandfather is Henry R. Wandell, who was born in NY in 1801 and died in Marshall, MI in 1892.

Mrs. Ruth Wandell, 28, of 4814 North Thirty-fourth avenue, died today in a local hospital after an illness of several weeks.
Surviving are her husband, A.M. Wandell, her mother, Mrs. Millie Gambill, St. Paul, MN; her father, Charles Stone, and a sister Jeanne Gambill, Omaha.
The funeral will be Saturday afternoon at 2 at the Brailey and Dorrance chapel.

Yes, Violette did remarry (not sure she was even married since I can't find her using the Wandell surname in the census but her children do). She did remarry Kasson. Thank you for her father's name, I wasn't sure what it was. Do you have any further info on her?

I am Mallory Babcock and I am doing some research for a friend, Ron Wandell, on his ancestry. His grandfather, Skyler (nickname?) Wandell, died in Jenningsville, Wyoming Co., in a barn accident. Skyler's son, Samuel, is Ron's father. He has very little information on his father or grandfather. Ron's mother was Violette Swingle. Samuel was born 13 Apr 1904. Would you have any information on this line?

I'm helping a friend to follow Cyrus, son of Timothy. I've been hunting through census's and have found some info. However, I can't seem to find Cyrus son, Timothy, who married Ella Mohr. Seeking info on Lavinus (Levinus) Wendell (Wendel), son of Marten & Marytje Wendel. Lavinus was born in Albany, but I believe he lived as an invalid in Chester, Warren County, NY. Need names of his children.... my missing link!

This family is descended from Evart Jansen Wendell>Capt. Johannes Wendell Sr>Johannes Wendell Jr> Robert Wendell>Marten Wendell>Lavinus Wendell.

Next generation changed the spelling to Wandell.

Melissa Wandell married John Seaman in October 1825 in Newburg, Orange County, New York. She died in February 1883 in St. Louis, Missouri. They had eleven children:John A., Harim, William Albert, Thomas Crosby, and seven daughters; one named Cornelia. They lived in New York and then settled in St. Louis, Missouri by 1860. They were coopers. All of the sons served in the Civil War on the Union side. I'm looking for info on her parents and the date that she was born.

His great grandfather was Alexander born in 1799 (where I do not know) but he married Philinda Lamphier and moved (from ??) to Cattaraugus County NY. in 1825or6.
