Re: Hans Wappler b.1892 - d.1965

Thank you for writing back. On further exploration I am thinking that Hans might not be my relative after all. I say this because I seem to have come across a date that Charles (his father) came from Germany and that is where my discrepancy turned up. The Charles Wappler I am working on was born in 1858 at Copper Falls, Michigan. I already know what happened to all my Charles' siblings (his oldest brother, Henry, is my great-grandfather) and they were all born in Michigan. Their father (my g-g-grf), Gottlieb Wappler, was born in Germany/Prussia ca. 1826 but I have no confirmed information on him before he married in 1852 at Copper Falls (ghost town w/not much evidence left in current day Keweenaw County). It is possible our Wappler's are related, but I am not sure how. There is another researcher who might be closer related on the Wappler board - she has at least found information from "the old country" (Prussia/Poland) whereas I have nothing. I wish I had more information for you as I was hoping this was my relative. I think my post was from 3 years ago and there is no way to remove it so I wanted to reply all the more for you. Good luck and if I find any Wappler information beyond what I have I will certainly post it on the board.

My grandfather was Hans Wappler. All I know about him is that he was born in Chicago, and died about 1965 in Ludington MI. His wife was the former Dorothy Mucha, and he had 2 children, my father Robert Wappler, born in 1923, and a younger daughter, Joan. I believe she is still alive and living in the Ludington area. Her husband is Dan Firzlaff. If you have any info about Hans' parents, and when they came to the US, I would appreciate it. Thank you.

Looking for information on Hans Wappler, born to Charles Wappler and Hedwig (Hattie) Ufer Wappler in Chicago in 1892. SSDI says that Hans died in Michigan in 1965 - but I do not know what town. This line is from Gottlieb Wappler ca.1826/7/8 - 1868 (Keweenaw County, Michigan). I am trying to work my way through this family in hopes of uncovering an original birthplace (all that is known is Germany) for Gottlieb. I am not 100% sure that Hans is a relative as his father, Charles', information has not been entirely documented - in other words, I am extrapolating possible scenarios. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Velma,

I am so glad I found the message board that you responded to. I have lost the telephone number of your mother in law? that you emailed me to me. I would very much like to talk with her regarding the Wappler family and learn about the "unknown" relatives we have. Please, if it's not to much trouble could you resend that info to me? Also, your phone number. I would like to thank you for all your assistance. Besides we're family! My number is 210-658-5658. Cell phone is 210-386-7131. You can always reach me at one of the two numbers. Thanks Barbara

It is interesting that your grandmother's name is so similar to my grandmother's. My grandmother was born in Poland. I just wonder if she was somehow related to my grandfather, he was also, born in Poland. I haven't been able to find out if he has any siblings. Is there a way you can find out your grandmother's place of birth or name of parents?
Erika.
Benjamin Anderson Greer Family

My name is Elisha Greer Ward. My father and grandfather are both from Jamestown, Tn. Last year my grandmother died and my grandfather John Hooper Greer told me that the Jennings funeral home was his grandparents old home. I recently have been looking up my family history on the Greer side and I could not find any information about him. He was born on Sept. 13, 1917 I think. If you could help me I would greatly appreciate it. I have alway wondered about his side of the family but he really never told me anything. So if you could please see what you can find out.

Try searching Wapler, which I believe to be the original spelling. I have early documents of my grandfather where it is spelled with just 1 "p" and later documents with 2 "p's".

Erika

Wapplers in Michigan

Okay folks, here it is. WARBLER was my grandmother's maiden name. Her father was Henry WARBLER b: 1854 d:1933. His father - according to the marriage license dated 09/01/1852 (have copy of original that was scanned) had the name of (get this) Gredlop WREBBLER. Deduction has concluded that his accent was heavy and whoever wrote it down had no clue. WAPPLER seems to be closer - however, a passport dated from 1800 from somewhere in Austria has the name of "MOPPLER" on it, according to another family member who has it - so the best I have is that Gredlop Wrebbler (more like Gotlieb Wappler) was born in 1826 (marriage license and a death record bear that out) somewhere in Germany. He was married in Copper Falls, Keweenaw (although the license says Houghton) County, Michigan 1852 to Mary Weller (Wills, Weiber - a whole other research project) and he died in Keweenaw County, Michigan in 1867. Haven't found the grave (yet) so I have many stones unturned. I have no names of siblings, parents, or birthplace - other than Germany. Sorry for the lack of information, but I am coming closer to finding where all his children are buried - so perhaps I will uncover something through that to post. Thanks all for your help. Oh, and for the record, the name had morphed into Wabler, Wobbler, & finally Warbler.
V.
