According to the Darlington Historical Commission, there were three brothers in the Darlington area during the latter part of 1700 to early 1820's.They were Theophilus, John and Thomas, Other information shows a fourth brother James who lived in the Charleston District. Theophilus married Elizabeth Russell and died in Darlington, March 29, 1819. Thomas moved to Alabama and died there destitute. A John (Jno.) Ward married Susanna Stone, May 11, 1775. There is the possibility that several children were born of this union. John then married "Patsy" in the 1790's and had the following known children, Amanda, Mary, Jonathon C.(John C.), James Caswell(Cash Jim) and Theophilus(Thiel). They moved to the Henry and Dale County areas of Alabama about 1830 where John died shortly after arrival and is buried in the Center Methodist Cem. as is "Patsy". Other Ward families moved from South Carolina to the same area of SE Alabama about the same time. These families are possibly from the first marriage of John as some of them are referred to as cousins in several documents regarding his known grandsons. One of the possible families was John Grady Ward who was born in South Carolina and died in Henry County, Alabama and is buried at the Center Methodist Cem. and is mentioned as a cousin. One of Theil's grandsons was named for a favorite cousin Robert Ward.Does anyone know if there are possibly other Ward families that settled in this area that might be from the same linage?
