I am looking for relatives of Charles Addison Warfield. He lived in Waelder Texas between 1879 and 1920. He had some kin in Crockett Texas,and Grapeland, Texas. Although some of the older kinsmen remembered going to visit them as kids, they could not remember who they were. My Grand mother Dora Warfield called him Addison, she was married to his son James Warfield also known as "Buddy". Thanks!

I've been searching for lots of years for my paternal gggrandmother. GGrandmother Laura Liles Warfield was born in Montgomery Co., MD according to gmother Maisie/Mazie's SSDI. Laura's children that I found in the census [with Joseph WARFIELD] were Edward, Carrie, Maisie. Laura later married Joseph Williams. Also, we believe that the Eliza Warfield in the 1910 DC Census with Maisie was Laura's sister.

Maisie's children were:

Lydia Richardson [married Francis Yates]:
-- children were Norma, Roland, Frank, Laura, Rita,
among others;

Leroy Richardson .. son of Robert Richardson[Married Dorothy (?)one son, Leroy Jr.];

Leona Thomas -- dau of Lester Thomas, Sr.;
-- married someone named Brown);

Lester Thomas, Jr. m. Lorraine E. Frye (my parents).

May Thomas (died young)

If any of this peaks your interest, pls. contact me at stirfrye53@verizon.net

I refer to this book as the "Bible" for all Warfield family genealogists. The book is republished every few years but sells out fast. I have purchased several copies over the years. I basically entered this book into a Warfield family database on my computer in the 1990's and have been adding to it until today, when I have over 30,000 individuals and the book I intend to publish is over 3,000 pages with more than a 250 page index.

The author, Prof. Joshua Dorsey Warfield, was a 1st cousin of my Gr. Gr. Grandmother, Ellen Amelia Warfield (1938-1919). I just learned that the granddaughter of Prof. Warfield just donated her grandfather's research papers and family letters to the Howard County Historical Society in Ellicott City, MD. I will be in DC/MD for 10 days of research between Oct. 8th to the 18th.

The book is now on Ancestry.com and I find it much easier to use the online version than my hard copies. LOL

Richard Warfield Faber, Jr.
Email: RKayTek@aol.com

Hello Christine - I'm Richard Warfield Faber, Jr. and I also live in San Diego. I was born and raised here. I just moved back after 35 years in Orange Co., CA.
Wallis Warfield had only 3 male 1st cousins and none of them were named James.
I do not have any females named Bessie Lucille Warfield or Lucille Bessie Warfield in my Warfield family database.
Have you sent away for Lucille/Bessie's Social Security Application. She should have named her parents on the application. Since she died in 1983 she should of had a SS#. She would be listed in the SS Death Index under the married name she was using at the time of her death, not her maiden name.
Rich Faber
Email: RKayTek@aol.com

The book titled "The Warfield's of Maryland" is not the best book to purchase for the Warfield Family of Maryland. After publishing that book, the author, my cousin, Prof. Joshua Dorsey Warfield, greatly expanded on it and published the book titled "The Founder's of Anne Arundel & Howard Counties, Maryland" in 1905. "The Founder's...." book is available on Ancestry.Com along with "The Warfield's of Maryland" and hundreds of other books about Maryland genealogy for one price.
Re: Maryland Warfields

All the Warfield's of Maryland, Baltimore, Howard, and all the other MD counties, descend from the same immigrant, Richard Warfield, Sr. (1647-1704) and his wife, Elinor Browne (1651-1719). Richard came to MD from England in 1659 as an indentured servant of John Sisson. When they came to MD in 1659, Richard's family and John Sisson's family were neighbors on Fleet St. in London, England. Richard's father ran a tavern on Fleet St., as did Richard. Richard's was named "Black Horse Tavern" and was located 9 miles west of Annapolis.
There were only 2 colonial families named Warfield prior to 1776 in America. One was our family, descendants of Richard and Elinor Warfield, Sr. The "other" colonial Warfield family was founded in Massachusetts by "Deacon" John Warfield around 1632.
I have never been able to find any connection between the Warfield family of MD and the Warfield family of MA.
Have you ever seen the book titled "The Founder's of Anne Arundel and Howard Counties, Maryland", 1st published in 1905? The author, Professor Joshua Dorsey Warfield, was a close cousin of my great great grandmother, Ellen Amelia (Warfield) of Howard County. When the book was 1st published Joshua sent a copy to Ellen, who had moved to CA in 1883, after her 1st husband, Rev. William Thomas Crapster, died in 1879, leaving her a widow with 3 small children. That's how my branch of the Warfield family ended up in CA. Our branch of the family has kept in contact with our MD cousins since the 1880's. I have family letters dating back to the late 1800's between MD & CA.
I have traveled back to MD countless times to research the family and for Warfield Family Reunions.
The "Founder's..." book is now available through Ancestry.com. Just type in the author's name, Joshua Dorsey Warfield, and the book will be one of the "results". The book traces the MD Warfield's back to Richard and Elinor (Browne) Warfield, Sr.
Richard Warfield Faber, Jr.
Solana Beach, CA
Email: RKayTek@aol.com
I have a lot of info on William Pollock Warfield, Jr., born 1844 in AR. He 1st married Hattie Blackburn but I show no children for this marriage. His 2nd marriage was to Florence. I have 4 children for this marriage. I have william's ancestry back to Richard Warfield, Sr., (1647-1704) and his wife, Elinor Browne, (1650-1718/19). Both of England and Annapolis, MD.
My email address is: RKayTek@aol.com

My cousin, Professor Joshua Dorsey Warfield (1838-1914) was the author of a manuscript titled "The Warfield Family of Maryland", published in 1898.
In 1905 Prof. Warfield expanded his manuscript into a book titled "The Founder's of Anne Arundel & Howard Counties, Maryland."
It's easy to confuse Prof. Warfield with his relatives since I have 8 men named "Joshua Dorsey Warfield" in my Warfield family database.
I am currently in touch with Prof. Warfield's granddaughter, Barbara, who still lives in the area of Maryland where her grandfather lived.
Both of Prof. Warfield's books are available through Ancestry.com.

I am searching for Warfields from the Wilkinson County Mississippi area. It may have been Payton Warfield with daughter Martha Warfield. Martha may have married a Richard or Robert Thomas. He was on the run and when they got to Concordia Parish Louisiana changed his name to Thomas Jones. Thomas Jones had a brother Cleveland Thomas who showed up years later and was introduced as his brother.

I do not know what plantations the family was associated with but understand most of the large plantations had many slaves and didn't always list their names. Does anyone have any advice for how to find out these kinds of information. I am assuming I am going to have to go down there physically and search through wills and deeds in the county court house. Does anyone know of any other way? I am assuming Martha Warfield was born approx 1870 and Payton Warfield about 1840-50. I have just begun my searches on this family line. If anyone has any help or advice I would gladly listen.

Sincerely Tracie Tudor

My great grandfather, William Henry Warfield, b. 1854-5 in Iowa, d.1919 E.St. Louis, IL, lists on his death cert as his father being Henry from Kentucky...no mother info listed. Previous census list parents from Ohio, NY, PA...why do you think so many conflicting facts...human error ?
Eldon Warfield

James William Warfield and Anna ? were the parents of the Bessie Warfield born in Iowa on April 12, 1898.

James William Warfield 9-16-1878 to 6-1-1927 (son of William Henry Warfield and Sarah Morrison)

James and Anna had 1 child, Bessie (whose proper name was Harriet Lucille). She's listed as Bessie on the 1910 Census.

There is a mention of a daughter named Vondra but I have bo information.

James then married Clara ? and had 2 more children; Lucille H. who was always referred to as "Babe" and a boy named Frank. I know Babe's name is correct...I knew her. I never met Bessie but I have a family photo of "William Henry and Sarah Warfield with their grandchildren Lucille and Babe".

If you have any further questions or findings beyond William Henry I have info but it's sketchy. Thanks.

In addition to Bessie's mother's family I have a question. Was William Henry Warfield ever amrried to Lily Morrison? The only thing I can find is that Lily was married to Winfield Scott Moyer. Since Lily died in 1925 and Sarah Morrison died in 1938, unless there was a divorce somewhere I can't figure it out.

Re: Warfield Slaves

I am interesting in talking to any warfield or Ridgely descendants to the slave ship Enterprise.
In 1835 Captain Elliott Smith left Alexandria Virginia headed for Charleston, South Carolina. On his ship were 78 slaves not declared on the manifest. He apparently "kidnapped" five young Warfields from off a beach along the way. Apparently, at this time the price of slaves in the south had risen or something, and stealing or kidnapping slaves and then selling them wasn't uncommon.

Along the way they were blown off course, or hit a gale and ended up in Bermuda for refuelling. Bermuda had achieved emancipation and so all slaves on board were given the option to be free. All asked for freedom except for 25 year old Matilda Ridgely and her five small daughters, Helen, Mahaley, Betsey and Martha and Ann. She got back on the boat.

THis is according to NEllie Musson's book, Mind The Onion Seed.

Some other names of the slaves were Easter Lyles, 25, Henrietta Lyles 3 and John Lyles.

Easter Groom, 14, Louisa Groom 2,
Martha Lean Groom.

Other surnames included Anderson, Brent, Briscoe, Brown, Buckingham, Butler, Carter, Chase, Dent, Dobbin, and Warfield

Mahalia or Mahalah seemed ot be a common first name with this group.
