Alice L Warner born in Vermont

Looking for information on Alice L Warner b. 1850 Chittenden, Vermont. Her parents were Dr. Benjamin Y. Warner and Laura (Oakes). Benjamin died in 1869. Laura and her adult daughters, Charlotte Atherton, Alice Kennard and Jennie Warner are found in Newton, Middlesex, MA in 1880. Alice had married Frank B. Kennard b. 1850 in Parsonsfield, York, Maine. Date and place of marriage unknown. Frank Kennard has never been found in the 1880 census.

Alice joined Frank in Billings, Yellowstone, Montana in 1882-1883. Alice died and is buried in Detroit, Wayne, Michigan in 1886. Apparently, Laura Warner, Jennie Warner Clark and Ogden Clark were living in Detroit in 1886-1887. It appears that Alice got sick while pregnant and died.

Where did Alice and Frank get married and when? Did they have any other children? Other information on this family would be appreciated.

I have a beautiful tin-type photo of Magdalena Warner Harrison, taken abt 1873. I believe she was born abt 1850 in New York. There is an 1880 Gallupville, NY census showing her married to John H. Harrison, and a 1920 Schenectady, NY census with them on it. She was a dressmaker and he was a carriage trimmer.

I would like to return the photo to her family. So if you are related to her and want the photo, let me know.

Patricia
prock2@ec.rr.com
If you are inquireing about Almira and Martin Warner Chamberlin, Almira I think was born around 1820. Martin was born 1849. I believe there was a Martin Warner Sr have no info on him. In 1850 Almira lived with her family and went by Warner in 1855 she went by Almira Chamberlin but was not listed with a husband, just Martin Warner Chamberlin who would have been 5-6 yrs old, and they lived in Manchester Ny. Almira married a Calvin Harrington a few yrs after that. On Martins death certificate it says he was born in Canandaguia Ny Ontario Co. and his fathers name was Calvin Chamberlin. His step father was Calvin Harrington?? I have a photo from a relative who said it was Sarah Emily Miller or Storm Chamberlin wife of Martin Warner chamberlin but It is not Sarah Emily and may possibly be Almira. The relative I recieved it from was the daughter of Martin and Sarah Emily's daughter.

Of course Anne - my contacts over the years have offered a number of different locations for Poole family origins.

Since 'my' family is derived from my Poole ancestor who was born in the 1570's in Northamptonshire I hang my hat on this origin http://www.houseofnames.com/xq/asp.fc/qx/poole-family-crest....

Do you have plans to return to Ireland some day? Two weeks ago I visited all of the placenames in south Co. Wexford recorded on the earlier part of family tree. I also had a look at the Quaker archives in Dublin and was able to verify some research that I had undertaken that was at odds with what had been transcribed (incorrectly) originally.

Regards - Peter

Hi Anne,

To confirm, the Poole family tree that I maintain has no Benjamin Jacob Poole, one Benjamin Poole b.1861 and two Jacob Pooles b.1774 & 1826.

The name Poole can have many origins. My understanding is that Poole has been derived e.g. (1) from De La Pole which related to Welshpool in Powys, Wales (2) from people who resided in the Po valley in Italy and (3) from people in ancient England who simply lived near the local pool!

Most Scots/Irish took up residence in Northern Ireland, but Scotland would be a less-likely source of a Poole family than England. There are twenty-one Pooles listed in the NI telephone drectory and, I note, fifteen in the County Wexford directory. Interestingly there were thirty-four Co. Wexford Pooles listed in the 1911 census, only four of them in 'my' family.

The Poole name is common among both Roman Catholics and Protestants, both in Ireland and elsewhere.

Regards - Peter

I think the easiest way to link Nancy Jane's Descendants is to go to http://leavesoftime.familytreeguide.com/tree_index.php

Enter her name in the search box. She has a 7 generation descendancy listing there. Her husband, Benjamin Griffin Warner and his father is shown there as well. I believe his grandfather was also named Benjamin Griffin Warner b 1779 VA, d 1857 Harmony, Morrow, Ohio married Ruth Merritt b PA, d Harmony, Morrow, Ohio. I have another thread going on this generation.

My father has a newspaper article interviewing Nancy Jane before her death. I will have to get a copy and scan it.

Dale Warner
New Port Richey FL
djwarner@earthlink.net

Hi Kathy,

Any information would be helpful. I believe he is my 4th great grandfather. My 3rd great grandfather was Samuel Warner and his only child was Benjamin Griffin Warner. The only early reference to Samuel was in the 1840 Census living in Trenton Twp, Delaware Co, Ohio. All the other Samuel Warners in Ohio at that time did not match age and family members.

Earlier I communicated with a descendant of Anna Warner, a daughter of B G Warner b 1779. She married a Chilcote and ended up in Arcola Twp, Douglas Co, Illinois near where Samuel and his son's family relocated after the Civil War. Anna also had a brother named Merritt Warner. I have family information on all these lines. Happy to share.

Hiram Warner 1812-1890 married Sophia Paul 1827-? who was the daughter of Ira Paul and Mary Ann Pierce. Mary Ann Pierce was born in 1791 in New Bedford, MA, and died in 1850 in Erwin, Steuben County, NY. I doubt that Hiram Warner was related to the Pierce family other than by marriage. They lived in Steuben County, NY. From what I've seen here Martillo or Mirtillo Warner lived in Rochester, NY, which is where I live. I would be happy to research Martillo/Mirtillo locally if you need help.

There is a great deal written about the Paul family, and I have an extensive genealogy on them.

Does anyone have any information about this family? I have been trying to find information and cant seem to get anywhere on it. I am looking for information about Willie's family specifically. He was born around 1897 and died in 1966 in McCreary Co, KY. He married Allie McGinnis and they had 4 children that lived, Eugene born 1919, Gilbert born 1924, John Marcus born 1925, and Clarence Carl born 1930. My dad was John (Johnny) and he died in 1988 when I was 7. All of his brothers have passed away, and I have no one to ask regarding this part of my family. Does anyone have any info???? I know that they lived in the central KY area mostly, but I am not sure that he was born in KY. In 1920, they lived in Clover Bottom, Woodford Co KY. And in 1930, they lived in Jessamine County, KY.

I hope you are still out there - your post is from 2000. I believe Wesley Warner is my great-great grandfather also. His son, my great-grandfather, was named Dave. The story which was passed down is that Wesley took off for Oklahoma to get in one of the runs for land and word came back he got bushwhacked along the way. Then, sometime later, word came that he was still alive and married in OK. In the meantime, his wife who thought she was his widow, couldn't feed the kids so she went from neighbor's house to house - passing them out to whoever would take them. She wasn't his first wife and I don't know when or where they got married and I don't know how many of the kids were actually hers. There is a Wesley Warner in the 1880 Phelps County MO census.
Sarah Jane Warner b. 28 Apr 1828, Greenwich, marr. my great grandfather Henry William Marriner (1834-1876 Chatham). Sarah's siblings were: John Warner, Edward Burton Warner b. 1849, Elwin Warner b. 1833, Henry Joseph Warner b. 1838, Frederick Warner b. 1830. Their parents were Charles Warner (1799 Greenwich-1873 Milton in Gravesend) and Sarah Hemblin b.1799. Charles' parents were William Warner and Sarah. In 1986 I climbed 150 ft. up the inside belltower rungs of St. Mary Church, Chatham, England and saw bells by John Warner and wonder if the bellcaster Warners might be related to my Warners. Just trying to close off this avenue of research.

Based on my reading of the Palantines it is a good chance that he may be of German origin.

With that said my father always said that the Poole name was Scotch-Irish.
Re: Jacob WARNER & Hannah DISLER

I've recently done some more research on the line. it's looking a lot like Jacob WARNER was married once, and once only, to Hannah DISLER. I'm thinking the informant on Daniel WARNER's death certificate simply has it wrong.

I found the following:

http://www.heritagepursuit.com/Wood/WoodBio1094.htm

SAMUEL WARNER was born in Sandusky county, Ohio, August 15, 1839, and is the son of Jacob and Hannah (Disler), Warner, the former of whom was born in Berks county, Penn., and the latter in York, 'Penn., coming to Ohio with her parents.

Jacob Warner, the father, came to Ohio at an early day and with his brothers located in Wayne county, where he lived for a time, and where he was married. In the early part of the '30s he moved to Jackson township, Sandusky county. Those were the pioneer days, when it was necessary to cut a road to their new home, which was located in the woods. But the prevailing epidemic, fever and ague, induced them to return to Cuyahoga county, Ohio, and later, in 1857, to Sandusky county, where Mr. Warner died at the age of sixty-four, and his wife when sixty-six. He was a Whig, and later a Republican, and voted regularly at every election. The children of this estimable couple were: John died when eighteen years old; Peter died in California; Solomon is a farmer of Sandusky county; Samuel is our subject ; Daniel is an expert machinist living at Cleveland, Ohio; Sarah is the widow of William Fought, of Cleveland, Ohio; David resides in Seneca county.

Our subject obtained what education he could in Sandusky county, where he attended school in a log school house, the floor of which was of puncheon, and the writing desks were set against the wall. When still a boy he went to work on the home farm, where he remained until his marriage, in Jackson township, May 6, 1860, to Miss Sarah Henry, of Sandusky county, who was born January 25, 1841 , a daughter of Jacob and Sarah (Mowry) Henry. She received a limited education in the common schools. She owned forty acres of timber land, which was wet and swampy, being under water several months in the year. Four years after their marriage our subject built a log house, sixteen by twenty-six feet, and began to clear the land, cutting down huge trees and burning them, as there was no market for timber in those days. He bought forty acres of land adjoining that of his wife, paying for it $600, which he borrowed. It took him fourteen years to get out of debt, as he had many improvements to make. He moved, in the spring of 1871, to Montgomery township, where he bought eighty acres of land, and, later on, added forty acres more. He sold this in August, 1881, and came to his present farm of 177 acres in Section 6, Perry township, where he now resides.

The following children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Warner: Franklin L., now living in Harrison township, Henry county; Wilson E., a farmer of Perry township; Minnie L., at home; and Bertha M., at home. Our subject has always been a stanch Republican, but has never been an office seeker. With his wife, he is a member of the United Brethren Church. He is one of the upright, honest farmers of Perry township, and possesses those grand traits of a good old Pennsylvania German. He is kindo pleasant, and hospitable, an excellent citizen, and always, ready and willing to help the needy. He has an excellent home, where he always welcomes his friends with hearty good cheer. He can boast of never having had the toothache, nor a tooth extracted, but possesses all of his second teeth intact.
