WARRINER or WYNOSKI in Canada

I am writing to you in the hope that you will be able to help me. I am currently working on family tree and am trying to locate members of my family. My name is Tiffany Warriner. I am the great great granddaughter of Johann Frederick Wynoski and Julia Hoeft.

My great great grandfather,, was born in or near Danzig, Prussia (now Gdansk, Poland) around 1870. His father was a Prussian army officer who disappeared in the war and his mother moved to Berlin where she died. Fred was raised in a state orphanage until age 16 when relatives named Wynoski took him in and emigrated to Pennsylvania and subsequently to Canada (village of Desborough near Berlin- now Kitchener). Other family members (siblings, cousins, and other children) may have came over with them, this I am not sure about.

Once on his own, Fred moved to Orillia and worked as a mason/bricklayer. He married Julia Hoeft and had seven children. The children's names are Walter, John, George, Fred, Charlie, Alex and Elsa. Fred and Julia moved to Toronto and operated a store which they lost during WWI because people boycotted German businesses. During the 1920's, the family changed their name to Warriner. I am not sure if it is the original birth or adopted surname of Fred, an Anglicized version of it, or simply a similar name.

This is the information that I have acquired thus far. It is important to me to find the missing links of my family history. If you feel that you may belong to this family please contact me at
tif_nicole@yahoo.com,

I just found your post of Apr 22 2002. I would very much like to share information with you. Over the summer I visited with "Barker" cousins of my mother's in Mitchell, and Earl Barker remembers Clayton Warriner driving Clayton's mother up to Mitchell area to visit his father Brian Barker.

Earl's father Brian Barker died 1954, was a first cousin to Mary Barker your grandmother. Mary Barker 1871-1953 was born in Yorkshire to John Barker 1841-1896 and Elizabeth Annie Scaling 1841-1910. They were married Jan 9 1864 in Pockley in the parish of Helmsely, North Yorkshire. John was the youngest brother to Brian Barker 1827-1909 (father of Brian Barker 1877-1954). John and Brian's parents were Simeon Barker and Elizabeth Fenwick Warrinor (widow); but this was Elizabeth's second marriage. Elizabeth Fenwick was first married to William Warrinor. She had two children, and then married Simeon Barker, and had 8 children. To my knowledge, only Brian 1827-1909 ( my ancestor) and John Barker 1841-1896, were the only siblings to emigrate to Canada. Brian my ancestor came in 1850, and lived with a Barker first cousin near present day Toronto, then in 1860's moved to the Mitchell area. The first records I can find for John Barker are around 1880-1882, as arriving in the Mitchell area and then moving to Stratford by 1884.

Do you have any information on a George Warriner born 1870 died 1943 and buried in Avondale Cemetery, Stratford Ontario. The cemetery transcriptions say that his wife was Mary Barker born 1871 died 1854. Interested in Mary Barker, as she is part of a Barker family line, that I am researching. Mary was the daughter of John Barker and Annie Scaling, born in Beadlam, North Yorkshire. The family came to Canada around 1884, first settling near Mitchell, and then moving to Stratford.

My grandfather was Elmer Warriner. He was from Pittsburgh, PA, but his family was from Stratford, Ontario. I don't know his parents names or when they left Canada. He was the oldest of 12 children, the youngest was Charles and there was a Henry somewhere in between. I think there were 10 brothers and 2 sisters.
Elmer was born 6-18-1897. He died 2-1978 in Pittsburgh.
He never talked much about his family.
I just learning to do geneology and I probably haven't helped you any, but this is the first time I've found any Warriner's from Ontario. Good luck with your search!

Hi,
My ggrandmother's sister Mary Green, married a George Warriner in Liverpool sometimes around 1890. George was 29 at time of 1891 census. They had a baby son, Jesse, at that time. George would have been born in 1861/62. I read that your George was married to a Barbara, but could she have been his second wife? At time of census, George was a ship's cook. One of Mary's brother's came to Georgia sometime around 1900.
Louanne
