Billy Potts Washam
Mr. Washam, age 77, of Fort Mill SC, formerly of Cornelius, died Thursday, May 31, 2007 at CMC Pineville. Born September 16, 1929 in Mecklenburg County, he was a son of the late John Vance Washam and Velna Potts Washam.
He was a graduate of Cornelius High School Class of 1947, a US Army veteran of the Korean War, was owner of Billy P. Washam Construction for a number of years and construction superintendent for Barger Construction, White Construction and Gates Construction. He was a member of Banks Presbyterian Church in Waxhaw, loved to fish and carve, and enjoyed the beach.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Sunday, June 3, in the Chapel of Raymer Funeral Home with his son, Mark Washam officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 at the Funeral Home.
Survivors are his wife, Rita Alexander Washam; sons, Robert V. Washam and wife, Kris, Terry D. Washam and wife, Mary, of Cornelius, Rev. Billy Mark Washam and wife, Chris, of Corinth, TX, Steve Brown and wife, Peggy, of Fort Mill SC, and Don Brown of Charlotte; daughter, Carol W. Dunn and husband, Danny, of Ballard, WV; brothers, John Vance Washam and Murvyn Washam of Cornelius; sisters, Avone W. Goodson, Jackie W. Burris, and Brenda W. Rhodes of Cornelius; fourteen grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
