Mrs. Washam, age 96, of Huntersville, died Thursday, May 3, 2007 at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center. Born April 15, 1911 in Rowan County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Everette Goodnight and Carrie Teeter Goodnight.
Mrs. Washam grew up in the Centenary Mt. Ulla Community, was a graduate of Appalachian Teachers College and was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Saturday, May 5, at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the services in the Ladies Parlor of the church.
Survivors are her daughters, Juanita W. Poplin and husband, Joe, of Albemarle, Kathy W. Miller and husband, Dennis, of High Point, and Sarah W. Lowe and husband, Richard, of Huntersville; sister, Faye G. Scoggins of Mt. Ulla; and grandchildren, Shane Poplin of Albemarle, Ben Miller and wife, Leigh Ann, of Huntersville, Carrie Miller of Raleigh, and Brandon and Bryan Lowe of Huntersville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death on August 14, 1986 by her husband, Ben A. Washam, whom she married June 25, 1936; brothers, Tom E. Goodnight and John N. Goodnight; and sisters, Nan G. Stutts and Etheleen G. Huffman.
Memorials may be made to Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 19600 Zion Street, Cornelius, NC 28031.
