[Headline] Coral WASHBURN
Coral WASHBURN, 49, of Portland, died Tuesday, July 1, 2003, in Pittsburgh Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Born: She was the daughter of James Sr. and Isabelle Mora Gatrell of Wilkes-Barre, PA.
Personal: She was the loving wife of Warren D. Washburn, for the past 11 years. She would always be so appreciative of Warren when he presented her with coral colored roses which so dearly loved.
Coral was a community leader, dedicated volunteer and dynamic person who will be remembered for her kindness, generosity and vivacious personality. Her extensive community service focused on youth, education and women's issues. She was a founding chairperson of the marketing committee for Pocono Services for families and children, the parent organization of Monroe County Head Start, and was the communications chair for the Monroe County division of the American Heart Association.
She was a Summa Cum Laude graduate of East Stroudsburg University, where she recieved the speech Communications Award in 1989.
Coral began her career as a news reporter and substitute anchor for Blue Ridge Communications "Eyewatch News." She was named public relations director of the Pocono Mountains Chamber of Commerce in 1999.
Memberships: She was a devout member of the Portland United Methodist Church, where she was a servant of Christ Minister and also conducted services.
Survivors: her husband; her parents; two sisters, Ruth Rico and Patricia Ann Gatrell, and two brothers, Frank Rico and James Gatrell Jr., all of Wilkes-Barre; and eight nieces and three nephews.
Sevices: 11:a.m. Monday in the church, 100 Division St., Portland with the Rev. George R. Alt and the Rev. Peter Amerman officiating. Call from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8p.m. Sunday in the Joseph J. Pula Funeral Home, 23 N. Ninth st., Stroudsburg, Pa. Burial will follow services with interment in the Riverview Cemetery in Portland.
Memorials: to the Coral WASHBURN Memorial Fund, in care of Nazareth National Bank, 713 Main St., Stroudsburg, PA 18360, to defray medical expenses and make contributions to various organizations that she was associated with.
