Does anyone have info on a Thomas Waterhouse(b. abt. 1754 England), his spouse Alice (b. abt. 1754 England) and their descendants? I have info on their daughter, Elizabeth, but would like to know if Thomas and Alice had other children.

Elizabeth was born 22 Jun 1788 in Lancashire, England. She married William Robinson on 7 Jun 1808 in St. Mary's Parish, Lancaster, Lancashire, England. They had three known children born in Lancashire though I suspect they had more.

If anyone could help me, I'd really appreciate it!

Heidi

Hi! I am trying to see if anyone knows or has a connection to Hallan and John L Waterhouse. They are from the famous waterhouse line from New London, CT. Hallan and his wife Nancy moved to New York and had John L Waterhouse around late 1700s to early 1800s. John married and had some children in Columbia County, NY, but his wife died. The family with Hallan and Nancy moved to Steuben County, Indiana.

They later relocated by Branch county, Michigan.

I know how they are connected to the waterhouse family line, but can not find any information on Hallan's other children, marriage date or anything.

Any info would be great!

Missy

Responding to Mailing Lists & Message Boards

Dear WATERHOUSE List & Boards,

There seems to some sort of misunderstanding regarding the posting of messages to the List and Board. From what I gather Margaret wanted to contact a board poster directly and was attempting to obtain an email address. She apparently discovered that this person had a special paid subscription which specifically protects her email address from readers' view.

This in no way would impede Margaret from posting her information openly to the Board which would then be gatewayed to the List. Of course, since the gateway only goes from Board to List, if she wants to read any potential Mailing List replies Margaret would need to subscribe to the Mailing List. She would do that by sending email to:

WATERHOUSE-L-request@rootsweb.com

with just the word 'subscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message. There is no cost to post messages to boards or lists, nor is there any cost to subscribe.

If the misunderstanding is mine please let me know. Thank you for your participation on the WATERHOUSE List & Board.

Bob WATEROUS,
WATERHOUSE List & Board Admin

Elizabeth Ann Waterhouse sailed to Australia aboard the Palmira arriving Sept 21 1838. She was I think already married to Ambrose Alchin son of Thomas from Kent. Ambrose later re-married Emma Plumb & I think died in 1877. Elizabeth's children seem to have been John, Margaret (married George Haynes), Edward, Ambrose (Jnr.), Thomas, George, James William (whose 1st wife Maria Bailey/Bayley was my gg grandmother), Ann, and Charles.
I would love to know anything about her heritage or about any of the others named, or any snippet of information at all.

He married Louisa Arnold in 1897 and their first child was Bertram A Waterhouse, born in Leyton, Essex.

A potentially useful family tree, Randalls and others, appears to have been removed from Ancestry.UK's files. Any information about the Randall tree's whereabouts welcome.

Jane Waterous married Jesse Minor in 1737 in Lyme, father listed as Isaac. Have found all sorts of lineage to different Isaac's with several different mothers listed, Isaac and Elizabeth Lord or Isaac and Elizabeth Bronson , or is it a Griffin as a wife? And who was this Isaac's father? Seems like several families of Waterhouses-Watrous having children at the same time with the same first names. Can someone clear up my confusion??

Thanks ..hope someone can help.

Dan in Illinois

Rev John Waterhouse 1789-1842

The Rev John Waterhouse went in 1838/9 to become the General Superintendant of the Wesleyan Mission in Australia and Polynesia. According to records from his family he was born on 10th May 1789 at Rawdon, near Leeds. However there is no record of this on the IGI, which does list many Waterhouse christenings of that period at both Rawdon and neighbouring Guiseley (there are no marriages listed for Rawdon)
Is there any documentary evidence for this birth at Rawdon, listing parents? One possibility is that the entry is missing as the IGI films run from 1721-1779 and 1780-1812

Waterhouse of Thornhill/Netheton/Leeds/Otley, Yorkshire, England
I am looking for information on any Waterhouse from Thornhill, Netherton, Leeds, or Otley, Yorkshire, England.

The farthest back I have is a Laurence/Lawrence Waterhouse, b. Jun. 27, 1583, in Otley, Yorkshire, England. His siblings were (all born in Otley that I know of): James (b. Oct. 11, 1584); William (b. Sept. 12, 1589); Elizabeth (b. Jan. 23, 1592; Jennet (b. Feb. 16, 1594); possibly a Thomas Waterhouse; there also was a Simon Waterhouse living in Thornhill around the same time.

Laurence died in Aug. 1613 in Netherton, Yorkshire, England. I don't know who he married. His children are listed as: Philip, Alice, Edward, and Elizabeth. My ancestor, Edward, was b. abt. 1604, in Netherton, and married Feb. 7, 1631, in Thornhill, Yorkshire, England, to Grace Walker (Possibly of Leeds). I have seen that Laurence is sometimes a name that comes up in the early Waterhouse family trees, also, I am wondering if there is a connection to the Simon Waterhouse, who died in Oct. 1612, in Thornhill. He had three sons that I know of: Anthony, Samuel, and Jeremy Waterhouse. Since Edward eventaully lived in Thornhill, I am wondering if he chose to live there because he might already have had a cousin (Simon Waterhouse) there?

Any info on this Waterhouse family would be really appreciated.

Thanks,
Kelly Selcher

Hi Listers

I'm trying to connect any relatives to my cousin Elmer W WATERHOUSE ..he was born in 1917 in Rhode Island USA to Hilton WATERHOUSE and Annie RILEY ??.
Hilton WATERHOUSE was my Great grandfather's youngest brother and left the UK for America in about 1905 ....

Hilton lived in Providence Maine and was on the 1930 census along with his wife Annie and Elmer aged 13.

I have a death registered for Elmer Whitworth WATERHOUSE in Tameside Greater Manchester UK for 1993 with a date of birth of the 23rd September 1916.
I also have a note from previous internet searches ..(Source misplaced ) which gives a Elmer W WATERHOUSE and the following data:-
23 Sep 1916	ELMER W WATERHOUSE 14 Apr 1993	XX800
(U.S. Consulate: UNITED KINGDOM (LONDON))	(none specified)	038-05-9537	Rhode Island

This strongly suggests they were one and the same and a US citizen resident in the UK ...but completely unknown to any of our family living less than 5 miles from Tameside.

Does anyone have any sources in that may shed some more light on Elmer or on Hilton's marriage to Annie RILEY ?

Cheers Alan
Sunny Oldham

Waterhouse Name Change

Can anyone offer an explanation why, between 1792 and 1811 every family of Waterhouse in the County of Londonderry, Northern Ireland, changed their name to Watterson. This name change has been verified by the Director of the Ulster Historical Foundation, Belfast.

There were 18 Waterhouse families living in the County at that time. Only one family, that of Henry Waterhouse from Magherafelt, retained the Waterhouse name. He subsequently emmigrated to Canada.

The 1740 householders list shows 5 Waterhouse and NO Watterson families in the area, yet the 1831 census shows 18 Watterson and NO Waterhouse families.

I have a friend that was adopted and she's asking me to look up some information for her. Her bio mother, who has a hard time keeping facts straight, says that her maiden name was WATERHOUSE from Colorado. And her parents ( my friend's grand parent's) name was Emory(Emery) and Daisie (smith) Waterhouse from Denver. I have searched the census and have not found any Waterhouse's in the 1930's by those names. They may be bogus. We're not sure and the mother isn't giving up any more information. My friend would just like to know some of her roots. The mother married a CHOATE and lived in Enid Oklahoma. We have no marriage date or place. The inlaws do not know anything and have no marriage certificate to see if Waterhouse is the correct name. If the name Emery (EMory) or Daisie are familiar could you please contact me?
Thanks
Timothy, Andrew Waterhouse

I am still searching for my husband's ggrandfather's family in Maine. Andrew Jackson Waterhouse was b. 3-4-1829 in Lisbon, ME. A distant cousin recently found a notation in his deceased mother's papers stating that Andrew's father's name was Timothy. We assumed that A.J. was named after President Andrew Jackson who took office in 1828; however, we discovered references indicating that three Waterhouse brothers married three Jackson sisters. Therefore, Jackson could be a family name. Ellsworth could also be a family name because A. J.'s first son was named Elmer Ellsworth. I'm operating in the dark! Any help would be appreciated.

WATERHOUSE Family Photographs

I've "rescued" two old photographs which appear to belong to the WATERHOUSE Family. Both have notes on the back which say "Probably Miles Nettleton WATERHOUSE", both were taken at the J.H. Peters Studio in San Francisco, and both appear to have been taken in the 1870's. The boy in each photograph appears to be about 10-12 years old, though I think they look slightly different, maybe brothers rather than being the same child.

I've attempted to locate someone from this family so that the photographs could be returned to them but was unsuccessful so I have donated the photographs to the California Genealogical Society in Oakland, CA. If you are interested in the photographs I'd suggest you contact them directly.

Thanks,
Shelley

One male 30 Under 40 (possibly Elbridge), and one female 20 Under 30 (his wife?) and one female 40 Under 50 (his mother-in-law?). There was also a male 20 Under 30(possibly George his younger brother).

I have the Francis Asbury Waterhouses down to Francis the IV. Francis III had 4 children. His third child was Frances. Her three childen have several offspring and one of them has 4 children.

There are numerous Waterhouse's in ME during the late 1700's to the 1890's.
Waterhouse Descendants

I am trying to trace any descendants of Charles Owen Waterhouse. He was born at Old Brompton, London 26/7/1843 and died 4/2/1917. He was employed by the British Museum from 1866 to 1910 and married in October 1877. His wife's name was Ellen Elizabeth Staff. There was a daughter from this marraige but I have no details about her, nor do I know if there were any other children to this marriage. His last known address was 22 Avenue Gardens, Acton, W.
It is believed that his father, George Robert Waterhouse (1810-1888), (also employed at the British Museum and founded the Entomology Society in 1833 and was also entrusted by his friend and collegue Charles Darwin with the task of describing the mammals and coleoptera collected in the voyage of the Beagle), compiled a complete family history and I hope to trace this as I am directly descended from that line. My great, great grandfather, Frederick George Waterhouse, was the brother of George Robert Waterhouse. It is also believed that George Robert had another son, Frederick Herschel Waterhouse, born in Kensington in 1845 and died in 1919. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I am particularly interested to get in contact with any living descendants of Charles Owen or Frederick Herschel Waterhouse.

Recently I ran across a e-mail on the Mulkins board that mentioned a Waterhouse/Mulkins connection. Unfortunately,I
didn't have time at that moment to contact the author. Even more unfortunately, I can't find her e-mail. (Although I know it is still on some board!!) If you, or someone else, see this e-mail can you please contact me? I'll futher complicate things. I am actually looking for my ggrandfather John Riley Gazaway (spelling?). He lived and died in Texas.I have most of my gr-aunt's (gr-gr-aunt"s?)history-she was Sara Waterhouse Mulkins Lassitor (Lassator). She adopted my grandfather when his parents and younger sibling died. His name was changed to Andrew Jackson. I don't even know the sex of the sibling! or anything else about my line going on back. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Donna Mulkins Clark

I am looking for information on my gggg grandparents, William & Eliza Waterhouse. They were both born around 1827 in England.

The 1870 US Census shows them living in Miami County, KS with nine children: Anna M., Francis E., William, John J., Manda, Elizabeth A., Lucy, Susan, and Robert.

The 1880 Census shows them still living in Miami County, minus Anna, Francis, Elizabeth, & Robert; and John J. is listed as James.

William & Frances would have been in Massachusetts around 1853 when Anna was born. Francis & William were born in Illinois in the late 1850s, and starting in about 1861, all the rest were born in Kansas.

Francis was my ggg grandmother. She married Carlos Copeland of Pennsylvania, and their son Frank was born in Miami County, KS. The 1880 US Census shows Carlos & Francis living in Miami County, KS with three children: Frank, Florence, and Cora (difficult to make out).

Any information on these Waterhouses would be appreciated.

Charles WATERHOUSE & Mary E PIERCE

I am looking for help in tearing down my brick wall. Does anyone have information regarding the following family?

Family lore says that Mary E PIERCE of Du Page County, IL married a Charles WATERHOUSE circa 1866, conceived my grandfather, John H, but Charles died before the child was born.

In the 1910 IL census my grandfather's family says that his father, Charles WATERHOUSE, was born in New Hampshire but in the 1930 census where my grandfather (born 1867) was living alone he says his father was born in Rhode Island.

While searching the RI census for 1850 I find a 27 year old Charles N, born in Maine and married to Eliza A, age 25. They have one child, Charles, age 5. Mother & son were born in RI. This is a possibility as this young Charles born ca. 1845 would have been age 22 or so by the time my grandfather was born in 1867.

Waterhouse, Charles N., State: Rhode Island, Year: 1850, County: Providence, Roll: M432_845, Township: Providence, Ward 4, Page: 250, Image: 56. Ancestry.com

Your help is appreciated.

Bob

I am trying to find information on the Waterhouse family that originated from Oldbury in Glousestershire (sometimes listed as Staffordshire) . My particular branch comes from William born circa 1839. A family story states that at some point he may have run a tobacconists shop in Birmingham but I have no proof of this. Any help gratefully received.
