I am looking for information about Fannie Waters. She lived in Sevierville, Tenn. around 1830. I think she married a Jackson Haggard about that time. They had a son, Ezekiel Lowrey Haggard. Jackson Haggard apparently died and Fannie remarried. She died around 1900.

I just found out I possibly have a sibling. The mother's name is/was Linda Waters. She worked at some sort of restaurant/diner in Seattle, WA, in the early 1960's. The baby would have been born around 1962 or so; Linda was asked if her parents had Rheumatic Fever (pertaining to the baby, after birth). My father was with her, possibly fathering this child; he had RF, I believe twice, as a child. It all fits.
If anyone has any information, I'd love to find this person and establish contact, if indeed I have a sibling.

Thanks,
Robyn

Also, one source said that his father was Elijah Collum Watters. Someone else said his father was a Walters, but the dates don't match. I can't find this anywhere. Appreciate nay help someone could give. It seems like the Waters I am researching came to VA very early, some of the first immigrants. Thanks for any insights anyone might have.
Linda Lee Waters

Benomi John "BJ" Waters & Family

BJ Waters was my great grandfather, who was born in 1878 ( I think ) and died around 1940ish. I have a bunch of turn of the century Victorianish photos, most of which are attributed to photographers in Canada, that list names of other members of the Waters family as well as a couple of photos with the last name Day attributed to a person. I'm not sure how exactly some of these people relate. If anyone has info, and would like names from photos, holler at me.

Born 1860 in Pennsylvania. Waters might be her married name. Had at least once child, a daughter whose name was either Cecel, Cecil, Celia, or Cecelia. Daughter married a man named Clark, first name not known. They had two daughters: Eva born in 1906 and Maud (my grandmother) born in 1902, both in New York. Maud married William Hinkley and gave birth to my mother, Eva May Hinkley. Would appreciate any information on the Waters and Clark line. Rumor has it that Maud's father might have been full blooded Native American, but can't verify that. Appreciate the help.

Wallace Waters was born in 1809 to John P. Waters and Elizabeth Culum. He is found in the 1860 Madison Co., TN census with Nancy 33, Lou (F)13, and William (10). His older son, Thomas F. Waters is living in Falls River, KS in 1887. HIS children are: Minnie L. Ferguson (1867), Olive L. Cox (1869) (both living in New Burnside,IL; and Thomas B. (1874), Ernest H. (1876), Charles F. (1884), and Mabel C. (1885). (these children still living with Thomas F. Waters in Falls River, KS). These children and grandchildren of Wallace Waters applied for Cherokee citizenship. If you have ANY information about any of these people, I would very much appreciate it. I lost all track of Wallace from 1814 to 1860 and thereafter! My e-mail is vvv01@sprynet.com

I’m seeking information on my father James Leroy Waters (parents William and Ella of (Upper) Marlboro, MD) born May 1924 and died June 1979 in MD per the death index. He was Irish and Cherokee.

He lived in Philadelphia approx. 1944-1950, sometimes with his in-laws (the Palmers). My mother -- his first wife--died in 1950. He left, remarried, and had 3 more children who may live on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. They would be younger than 60.

Any information about my father and his extended family would be most appreciated since my siblings and I never saw our father, grandparents, or any of the Waters family again. Thank you! -JW
The native Amercican is this line is Snider Burton Mays/Mayse ( born: 1805 in Pittsylvania, Va.) He is the son of Bingham Mays/Mayse and Elizabeth Snider (married in 1789). He was married to Elizabeth Scott, born in Wytheville, Wythe Co., Va. in 1810. Their son Joseph Jackson Mayse (b: June 5, 1830 - d: Sept. 3, 1910) was married to my great-grandmother Diannah Isobel Collins (b: June 17, 1827 - d: July 9, 1905). Volunteers prepared the site and erected a military headstone, obtained by the American Veterans Administration."

From: "Community News, Winter 2007", Peter MATIC, Councillor for Toowong Ward (Toowong, Queensland, Australia)

Was your Waters ancestor a Colonist in 1587? see The lost Colony

First the Lost colony project is a non profit organisation, see the website.

Hello,

For those of you who don't know about the mystery of the Lost Colony, here's a primer. In 1587, Sir Walter Raleigh financed a venture in which 116 men, women and children were planning to establish the first permanent colony in the New World. Their goal was to raise tobacco and other supplies that colonists were unable to obtain in England, and to search for precious minerals, like gold.

In the fall of 1587, the colonists finally arrived on Roanoke Island in present day North Carolina, after a very difficult journey in which their food supplies were ruined. They sent John White, whom they had elected governor, back to England to obtain food and supplies and expected his return in the spring of 1588. However, the Spanish attached England and England, having no Navy, impressed all of her fishing vessels and private merchant ships into Naval service. Finally, in 1590, three years after leaving the colonists which included his daughter, son-in-law and infant granddaughter, he returned to Roanoke Island to find it deserted, but not destroyed. It appeared as if the colonists had simply moved. A single word, a clue, Croatan, was carved on a tree. The Croatan were the friendly Indians living nearby. Before John's departure, he had instructed the colonists to carve crosses if they had to leave in distress. There were no crosses.

John White would spend the rest of his life searching for the Lost Colonists. Many hints and clues indicate that at least some of the Colonists survived and were assimilated into the native tribes. The question is, did they, and if so, who are they today?

In 1993, the original site of the Croatan village was located. Subsequent archaeological and genealogical research suggests that the colonists did survive, and that when the land was granted to settlers, it was granted to some of those survivors who were by that time considered to be Indians. With recent advances in DNA for genealogy, we finally have, today, the ability to solve the mystery. We have created a plan that combines history, genealogy and DNA to solve the mystery. However, we can't do this alone. We need the help of the families who have been identified as "families of interest", being either roster members of the Lost Colony of those who obtained land grants on the original Croatan village site. Many of those names are the same.

In order to educate people and work closely with people who are interested, we are sponsoring the Lost Colony Symposium for DNA and Recent Research Sept. 7-9, 2007 at the Lost Colony Center in Williamston, NC. The symposium will be held between the Center and the Holiday Inn, as noted on the flyer at the website

Given that your surname is one of those on our "Names of Interest" list, I hope that people on the list will join with us in our research. I am hoping from this mailing, aside from encouraging people to attend the Symposium, to achieve the following:

1. To identify a primary research person or persons for your particular surname who would serve as a contact/coordinator for future postings, requests and research.
2. To identify a family archival website(s) if one exists.
3. To identify if there are any families of that surname that are from NC (or early coastal SC or VA), have oral histories of Indian or "mixed" heritage, are involved with any of the tri-racial isolate groups (Melungeons, Red Bones, etc.) and/or have any oral history of the Lost Colonies.
4. To determine if the family group is involved already with DNA testing, and if so, who coordinates that effort.
5. To determine if there is any research occurring or that has occurred for your surname in Great Britain, and if not, if anyone is interested in pursuing that avenue.

To become involved with the Lost Colony project, or to support the project, please attend our Symposium. Our project plan will be announced at the Symposium, and we have a long list of wonderfully educational speakers. The
flyer is at the website. Bring your pedigree charts and your genealogy as the right people will be present to help you with your testing plan.

If you can't attend the conference, you can still join the project.

Information will be posted shortly about how to do that on the Lost Colony website. We are in the process of setting us a private newsgroup for project members only which will also be available after the symposium.

Furthermore a blog has been created. http://www.the-lost-colony.blogspot.com/

If you are interested in this project or can be of help in any way, please contact me at restes@comcast.net.

The surnames are on our blog: http://www.the-lost-colony.blogspot.com/
The website: http://www.the-lost-colony.com/

Roberta Estes

"I will be on vacation from now until July 24th, and I will have very little access to e-mail. Please e-mail questions about the Symposium or the project to either my volunteer assistant, Nelda Percival at nelda_percival@hotmail.com or Anne Pool, the Center's Educational Director at croatan@peoplepc.com.
Waters in Clay Co., MO

Hello,

I am desperately seeking the family of my great-great-grandmother, Mary E. Waters.

Mary was born c 1848 in KY. On 24 Jun 1865 she married Martin L. Mullinix/Mullenix/Mullennix in Putnam Co., IN.

A short time after her marriage her family, who had apparently been upset at her marriage, moved to Missouri, possibly Clay Co. The family story told to me was, that after a tearful goodbye, Mary and her family never saw each alive again.

Sometime between Jun 1865 and Apr 1875 when Mary died, her mother died and I have been told that a record was found in Clay Co., MO that indicated Mary and husband, Martin, travelled to MO to settle the estate. However, when I attempted to duplicate that research and verify the information Clay Co., MO officials were unable to provide any information.

Mary and Martin had three children: Rosa E(tta), b 1866; Johnny V., b 17 Nov 1867; and Lillian, b c 1872. Johnny drowned in May 1876 and is buried at Manhattan Cemetery, Putnam Co., IN with his mother.

I need to establish who Mary's parents were and I cannot find anyone in the 1860 or 1870 census records that appear to be her or her family.

Can you help me get past this brick wall?

Thank you.

Sharon Bryant
Horace Waters

I was recently sent the 1850 Warrick County, Indiana census, showing Horace Waters age 36, from New York, and evidently his second wife Nancy (Bacon) age 22 from Indiana. Also the 1860 census showing Horace age 53 and Nancy age 34. An age variance between the to census.
I would please like to know if anyone is searching this family.I appreciate that. Thank you.

Floyd Waters b. 19 Sept. 1897

I am looking for my husband's grandfather Floyd Waters. His (Floyd's)father died when he was only 5, so we have no info on him, except that his name may have been Joe, and he died in Oneida,Tennessee.
I do know when Floyd died, and due to finding a WWI draft registration card, I now know his mother's name was Julia Ann who married an Autry.
That's the extent of our knowledge. Floyd's son Roy didn't even know that much. Please help!
Regina Waters
