Alan/Allen Watts, Ohio Valley (WV or OH) during 60's

I recently discovered that I am a descendent of a gentlemen with the name of "Watts". He was known to be in the Ohio Valley area of either Cleveland, OH, or Wheeling, WV in the mid 1960's.

Here is what I have been told:

*My fathers name is Alan Watts. I am unsure of the spelling of the first name.
*He had 4 children by 1965. Not sure if any came after.
*He may have served in the military for a short time.
*It is possible he passed away in the mid to late 1990's
*He had at least 2 sisters that I am aware of.
He was a cowkeeper. If anyone is researching the same family I will be pleased to hear from you.
The Watts family moved to London c 1880 and lived in South London, mainly the Camberwell area.
thanks Lynne.

Richard Key Watts-Pall Bearer for G. Washington ???

I have some notes written by my Great Grandfather who was married to Margeria Griffith Watts daughter of Thomas Watts and Esther Waterbury.
I have no idea what connection Richard Key Watts had to my Watts line.
The notes refer to a clipping from the New York Times (year unknown) that "Gloves Worn by PallBearer for George Washington Found". The gloves worn by Richard Key Watts of Maryland when his was pallbearer at the funeral of General George Washington were found at a home in the country near Rockville, MD. The gloves were found in the home of a family named Wallace who claimed to be lineal descendants of the man who wore them 126 years ago. (guess the date of the paper would be around 1925)
It goes onto say the Watts family is well known in Maryland and that the middle name identifies him, it is said with the family of Francis Scott Key the author of "The Star Spangled Banner".
Does this ring any bells with anyone out there?? Can anyone add anything?
My knowledge of my Watts ancestors is very limited. My gggrandfather Capt. Thomas Watts was the son of Thomas Watts and Lady Margeria Griffith of Scotland. He was born in Northern Ireland in abt. 1816. He was the youngest of three children born to them. His mother died when he was about 2. His father remarried and came to America and had other children. From other gleaning that I have done, I think he may have had brothers named William and Harry.

Susan
I have let this line go untouched for what seems years. Trying to pick up where I left off. Working on my dad's line of Joan WATTS who was m. to ENGLAND. I have been able to go to her parents as being William Buck WATSS b.1844 in Marshall Alabama and Mary CRABTREE b.1844 Alabama. I have been snooping at census records and feel that his parents might be Margaret SANT and John WATTS. Hoping someone out there might know of this line and be able to help me fill in the blanks thanks

NANCY WATTS 1772 Pittsburgh PA>1799 Lawrence Co. OH>1805 Scioto Co. OH>1840s Parke Co. IN

Seeking info on NANCY WATTS, born circa 1772, perhaps in Pittsburgh PA. She first married Phillipe Augustus Pithoud (sometimes spelled Pethoud) in 1799 in either Lawrence or Adams Co. OH. Three children from this marriage: John, Ruth and Francis. After Phillipe's death in 1803, she married Jeremiah Snook on 12-12-1805 in Scioto Co. OH. Seven children from this marriage: Amos, Margaret, Ruth, Dorcus, Aaron, Elizabeth and Louisa. Nancy died sometime around or shortly before 1850 in Parke Co. IN. Given that she twice named a daughter "Ruth," could it be that that was her own mother's name?

Hi all,

John Watts b. 12-14-1741 in Cumberland TN is my ggggggreat grandfather. His son Lott Watts had a daughter Zerilda (Watts) York who had a daughter Emily "Emma" Zerilda (York) Gaines Glasscock who had a son John Winfred Glassco(ck), who was my great great grandfather with black hair, dark skin and brown eyes. Emily (or "Emma" as my family called her) was part Native American but no one knows what tribe. She had black hair and dark skin but blue eyes. When she joined the Glasscock family it caused quite a stir, according to my relatives, because it was an interracial marriage. My great uncle remembers her sitting on the front porch of their home smoking a pipe. :) Does anyone else out there have any information on this lineage? I cannot find any shred of evidence besides my family memories on Emma's Native American ancestry. Please help! :) Thank you! :)

Megan

P.S. This isn't 'the' John Watts of the Cherokee, is it?

John G. Watts of Fauquier Co., VA

I’m pretty new to genealogy research. I know this is a long message, so thanks for bearing with me. I’m looking for any information about the parents and grandparents, etc. of John G. Watts, of Fauquier County and/or Culpepper County, VA. John G. Watts (1788-1854) married Sarah Creel on April 12, 1815 in Fauquier County, VA. John and Sarah had the following children:
1. Mary Watts married William E. Smith in January 1846.
2. John G. Watts, Jr. married Marjery Creel on October 12, 1846.
3. Payton N. Watts married Rachael Creel on August 23, 1847.
4. Margaret Anne Watts married William Lee in 1847.
5. William H Watts (1823-1890) married Hanna Marie Creel on February 3, 1848.

John G. Watts, Jr. and Payton N. Watts moved to Kansas, probably in 1854. William H. (Henry) Watts worked in Harrison County, WV near Salem, WV and probably moved his family to Salem in about 1874. He died in Lawrence, Kansas in 1890. His wife, Hannah, died in 1893 in Dodridge Co., WV and is buried at Salem, Harrison Co., WV.

John G. Watts was my great (4) grandfather and William H. Watts was my great (3) grandfather. My relatives and I cannot find John G’s parents. We know that the information I provided above is correct, but we can’t find much else. My dad’s cousin went to the Fauquier Co. courthouse to obtain some of the information.

I’ve found some information on a couple of John’s children on the Internet, but not anything on William H. I guess the reason is that my Watts branch would be the ones to add this information to the Internet. I’ve also found lots of contradicting information regarding Watts who may be John’s parents and siblings, but that’s about it. I’m also dealing with pretty common names for this time period, which doesn’t help. Thanks in advance for any information or advice in searching.
1851 UK Census - Help please

Hi, I was wondering if anyone can help. I have just picked up on my Family History again after a bit of a break. I am trying to locate where my GGG Grandfather (James Watts) was born. I have a print out of the 1851 Census (Record Number 862), where he was 42 years old living at 76 Berwick Street, St James Wesminster and he was a Tailor. The 'Where Born' section has been entered but I cannot read it for love nor money. If anyone has access to the 1851 census and is an expert at reading the hand-writing, I would appreciate any help you can give me. Please let me know if you need any further information concerning this census return. Many thanks.

I am descendant of Garrett Watts son of John Watts m. dht of Attakullakulla, Tennessee 1760. William, s/o Garrett migrated to MS c.1830/40, probably Lincoln or Franklin Co. but had brothers migrated to Pontotoc CO. same time.
I am trying to find a death record and an obituary of my g.grandad. He died in Canada but as to which province, I have no idea. I have a letter dated 1964 which mentions Nokomis and Saskatoon and that he died 1960.

Charles Watts was born in Herefordshire, England, 1877. During the early 1900's it would appear he helped his sisters and their respective families move to Canada. He married a Phoebe Simmons in England/Wales, c1915 and had one son plus a daughter from an affair. I think he moved back to Canada in the mid 1920's, alone.

I am a member of the UK site only, if anyone has Canada membership and could possibly look this up, it would be very much appreciated.

Thank you in advance of any help,

Carol.
