Mike - I don't know if you have had much success with your researching or not, but I wanted to let you know that you can submit a records request online to the Colorado State Archives and receive Horaces and Claude O.'s records.

http://www.colorado.gov/dpa/doit/archives/aboutus.htm#contac...

It looks like the "Record of Convicts" contains the most information including crime, etc.

Horace's inmate number was 8403 and Claude O.'s was 8680.

Good luck and let me know how this has been going for you!

Obituary Suggestion

I just had a good thought or suggestion with a lot of the Newspapers starting to close down and it getting harder to find obituaries which we all are looking for maybe we should start posting more obituaries from our our newspapers on the message boards either by surname or your location? Eventually we are going to have to pay for the newspapers of each county on line just to get access to a needed obituary. Any suggestions? I am already seeing them starting to disappear from ancestry faster.

Hi! My name is Jennifer Waymire Kroesche. My mom and I have just gotten started on our family geneology and we ran across this old thread. (I don't know whether this will even get to you or not!) My father is Jerry Lynn Waymire, son of Uly Lee Waymire, brother to your father, William E. "Dub" Waymire. My parents remember your dad fondly. My mom says he was a "sweetie". We would love any info and/or pictures that you have. We would share anything that we have with you. Would love to hear from you.

I am related to these Waymires. My grandmother was Inez. There was another son born much later. He was also named Harvey and grew up to be a pilot. I would be thrilled to have this postcard. Please contact me. I don't have much information on the Rice family, but may be able to help fill in some information if you are still looking.

Waymire died in Warm Springs, Deer Lodge Co., MT
Burial:: Boulder Cemetery, Boulder, Jefferson Co., MT
NOTE: See find a grave for headstones
NOTE: Son of Jacob Waymire and Elizabeth Lovejoy
NOTE: On the 1880 census he has a daughter Claudia who I believe is Claud O. Waymire a son on the 1900 census living close by his father.
-------------------

The Anaconda Standard - Anaconda, Montana - Thursday, August 30, 1900
-------
CIRCUS DROVE HIM CRAZY
----------
Waymire Was Queer Before, but Elephant Finished Him
DELUSIONS OF GRANDEUR

Had a "Token" That There Is No More Ore in the Butte Hills and That Some Day He Will Own Great Northern

Alexander Waymire, until recently a section foreman on the Great Northern at Wickes, was examined yesterday by a commission of doctors in Judge Clancy's court and was ordered committed to the asylum. Waymire is suffering from many happy delusions of the brain and during his examination yesterday he kept the court, the doctors and many spectators laughing in spite of the pitiful spectacle the demented man presented.

The doctors who conducted the examination were Sullivan and Leggat, and a number of the physicians who are in the city attending the Rocky Mountain Medical association were witnesses and spectators. Judge Clancy read to Waymire the complaint which County Physician Sheeran had made against him and then asked him what he had to say to it.

Well, judge, I was guilty all right at the time, replied Waymire, with a laugh, "and I guess I must have been insane at the time. My mind is insane on one thing and all right on another. When I struck that policeman I knew there was something wrong.

How are you now -- crazy or not? asked the judge, and the demented man, as well as the spectators, laughed.

Yes, judge, I am crazy all right. My mind is between me and heaven, said Waymire.

Dr Sheeran testified that he first saw the man in the county jail on the 24th of the month, after he had been arrested, and since then he has been very violent and destructive. The doctor said the man was suffering from acute mania and was dangerous to be at large. The witness had learned that Waymire was born in Indiana and was about 40 years of age. His home is in Jefferson County and for some time he has been a section foreman on the Great Northern at Wickes. He came to Butte with his family to see the circus on the 23rd, and that night or the next day he was arrested for insanity.

Mrs. Waymire testified that her husband had been a little queer for a week or so before they came to Butte. He was in better humor than before and talked constantly. He bragged about his work on the section and about a mine in which he was interested. He carried a piece of ore about with him and talked about it all the time.

The demented man's son also testified to the same effect, and then the doctors questioned Waymire himself. He wanted to tell them all about it and how he behaved himself in Butte after he realized that he was crazy. He said he had some trouble with a policeman and was laying it off to him." when the policeman jumped three feet in the air.

I told him he was a fool and that I would not hurt him. I then began to realize that there was something wrong and when I was taken to the dungeon a token came to me.

What was that token? asked one of the doctors.

Well, I was told that there was no more ore in the Anaconda hill. I came to Butte with my little ones to see the show and I put up with my old friend Jefferson, where I am always welcome whether I have anything or not.

After the circus, said Waymire, he came up town to have a good time on $10 his wife had given him and he went into several places, including a dance hall, where he met a very pretty girl.

I can appreciate a pretty woman as well as any man, he said, and so can you, you rascal, he added, addressing one of the doctors. That high forehead back of your ears shows that.

He told about his mine, the Jay Bird, in Jefferson County, and said he had enough money to buy a half interest in the Great Northern railroad. The president of that road is his friend and some day he will hold all the offices in the company.

I have millions in my mind, he said, but it is all in my mind. A man in Boulder asked a friend of mine if I was not nutty, but my friend told him he ought to see me some time when I was acting real crazy.

When you came to town you had money enough to buy the circus, didn't you? asked Dr. Leggat.

Well, I didn't think much about that.

Did you see the elephant? asked Judge Clancy.

Waymire was convulsed with laughter by the question and the recollections of the circus.

Yes, I saw the elephant, he said, after he had recovered. I saw him standing on his head and on his tail. My wife told me if I didn't stop laughing people would think I was crazy.

Dr. Hopkins of Denver, a specialist on nervous diseases, made an examination of Waymire and pronounced his case one of paretic dementia.
-----------------------

Oliver Waymire was married to Josephine Durand - listed in the 1910 census for Indianapolis, IN, under Mary Lafever who was my husband's ggrandfather's sister, Mary Royer.
Josephine was listed as her daughter, born in IL and she married Oliver 18 Jun 1909 in Brazil, Clay Co., IN. Oliver had two sons, possibly from a previous marriage to a Mary Jane Johnson of Tippicanoe, as their ages were Eugene Waymire, age 9 -1901, and Ernest A. Waymore, age 4-1906. They are listed as Mary Lefever's grandsons. Please e-mail me at Claudiairoye@aol.com as we are trying to find Josephine (Lefever?)

I have an original postcard photograph of “Waymire Family – Ed, Anna, Leslie, George, Glendora, Inez, Phebe, Willie, Leona”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. “Ed” look to be about mid-40s, and the youngest child, Leona, looks to be about age 3, so the photo was likely taken about 1915. Mother Anna looks so very tired, and although she would be under 40, she looks older. The children look to be about 18, 16, 14, 11, 8, 5 and 3

I found the family of Harvey E. Waymire (38), wife Anna M. (32), and children Leslie L. (14), George E. (11), Glendora (9), Inez L. (6), Phoebe M. (3), and William W. (9 mo.) in the 1910 census for Plymouth (Jefferson Co.) NE. OneWorldTree shows Harvey Edgar Waymire (22 Aug 1871), married Annie May Rice (5 May 1877), with seven children: Leslie Luther (5 Jan 1896), George Edgar (20 Dec 1898), Glendora (13 Mar 1900), Inez Irene (30 Oct 1903), Phebe May (7 Nov 1906), William Wilson (7 Jul 1909) and Leona Rose (13 Sep 1912).

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to this Waymire family.

Re: The Quest For John Rudolph Waymire

THE QUEST FOR JOHN RUDOLPH WAYMIRE

John Rudolph Waymire was a remarkable man who was born in 1721 in the Electorate of Hanover, Germany, and died in 1801 in Randolph Co., North Carolina. He was the ancestor of many early pioneers to places such as Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, Oregon, and California. Among his illustrious descendants were George W. Julian, an early Indiana Congressman; Frederick Waymire, a Territorial Legislator of Oregon; James Andrew Waymire, Supreme Court Judge of California and a founding Regent of the University of California; and most notably, President Herbert Hoover.

“The Quest for John Rudolph Waymire” is a 560-page genealogical book published in September 2005, prepared by the Waymire Family Research Group. Dr. Friedel Wehmeier found the German ancestral village of the Wehmeyer family, long sought after by a number of dedicated researchers. The community of Duederode, Lower Saxony, Germany, celebrated its 950th Anniversary in July 2005.

The first four chapters outline several generations of JRW's ancestors, his early life in Duederode, the family’s migration to the English colonies, and an analysis of the tales about him that have developed over many years. Included are illustrations of a number of German churchbook records with translations, as well as the marriage contracts for both JRW and his father.

The balance of the book consists of chapters on each of JRW's fifteen children, expanding the data on the material originally covered by Dr. William Reser's 1925 pamphlet, “John Rudolph Waymire and the First Three Generations of His Descendants.”

Thank you for your interest in this breakthrough genealogical resource.

Waymire Family Research Group:
Peggy Stone Tegel, Dr. Friedel Wehmeier, Edward Waymire

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

THE QUEST FOR JOHN RUDOLPH WAYMIRE

To order, make check to Peggy Tegel for $31, which includes shipping and handling (this price reflects the increase in postage as of May 14, 2007).

Mail to: Peggy Stone Tegel, 3345 Stonehurst Court, Joliet IL 60341-9316.

Name ___________________________________

Address ___________________________________

City, State, Zip	___________________________________

Email / phone ___________________________________

Flora Waymire Tyre - 1861 - 1891

Warren Republican
Thursday, May 14, 1891
----
MRS FLORA TYRE
--
The subject of this sketch was born near Renssalaer, Jasper County, Indiana, March 24, 1861, and was the daughter of Laban and Emily Waymire. She received a good common school education and at the age of 16 was united in full membership with the M. E. Church. It was about this time that her father died, leaving Flora her widowed mother's principal assistant in the care of a little brother and sister, and nobly did she fulfill the trust. At the age of 19 she was married to John Tyre, of Fountain County, Ind., and with him commenced housekeeping at Riverside in their own home. Perfectly congenial in habits and disposition, they entertained for each other a feeling of regard that time seemed to increase rather than diminish. Eleven happy years of married life were granted them and that they were happy years in the fullest sense of the word, none who knew them could entertain the slightest doubt. Business matters requiring the presence of Mr. Tyre in the West, she with their two little girls, Mabel and Clara, accompanied him upon two occasions to Colorado. On his last trip West, before her death Mrs. Tyre decided to remain in Indiana and superintend the erection of a new and handsome residence they were expecting to build. After a 12 months' absence Mr. Tyre returned with the results of a very profitable years business eager to receive the caresses of wife and daughters from whom he was determined nothing should ever separate him again no was he wholly disappointed in his expectations; his wife and children were at the cars to meet him and winding their arms affectionately around him he was lovingly conducted to the new home. Surely no couple had greater reason to indulge in pleasing anticipations of the future than Mr. and Mrs. Tyre. It is an old saying, however, and none the less a true one, that "man proposes and God disposes". A few weeks after Mr. Tyre's return from the West, Flora complained of not feeling well and the disease, slight at first, developed into a serious case of bilious fever and inflammation of the stomach, and until a short time before her death no one anticipated that the disease would terminate fatally. She was always gay and lively in her manners and a short time before her death as her husband felt her purse she playfully called him Dr. Tyre; these were about her last words.
Her last sufferings, which were often most severe, were borne uncomplainingly, the nearest approach she ever made in the nature of a complaint was to request her mother to hand her the newspaper to see if the reading would not in some degree beguile her mind from the pain she was enduring. It was very difficult for the friends that remember Flora as a little girl and again as a wife and mother, to realize that her life work is ended so soon, and that as a true wife and mother and a consistent Christian she is receiving her reward. To the husband and children so terribly bereaved, the tenderest words of sympathy must seem cold and unfeeling. The only comfort they they can experience is the thought that in some future existence this broken family may once more be reunited where there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, where God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.
At the time of her death Flora was 30 years old. Funeral services were conducted at the M. E. Church, at Independence by Rev. Mr. Miller, of Green Hill. Remains were interred at Armstrong's Chapel the same afternoon. The afflicted family have many warm friends who join with them in mourning the loss of one so good, so true and womanly.

Daniel Andrew Waymire

June 03, 1915
Warren County, Indiana
-----
DANIEL ANDREW WAYMIRE
--------
Died at his home in Independence at 12:25 Tuesday morning, death resulting from a stroke of paralysis, which came upon him Saturday evening.
The deceased was born July 26, 1852, and died June 01, 1915, aged 62 years, 10 months and 5 days. He leaves a wife, Mrs. Adeline Waymire, one son, Earl Waymire, and one daughter, Mrs. Warren Collyer, to mourn his passing away.
Mr. Waymire had been troubled for years with rheumatism and heart trouble, but despite this affliction he made daily trips to his farm just east of Attica to see that things were kept moving. He had a wonderful amount of vitality and it took something very serious to keep him at home and away from his duties. He has always been a resident of Warren Township and for the most part has made Independence his home. He was a very prominent citizen of the township in which he lived, and even up to late years took an active part in political, moral and religious work of the county. He was a good man, honest and upright, he believed in the "Golden Rule" and adhered to it as strickly as a man could. He believed in God and in the work of Christianity, and to this end devoted a goodly portion of his time and money to the promotion of the good work which he fully believed to be salvation of mankind. He was generous of heart and in spirit; he took great pleasure in aiding those in distress and in relieving the suffering. He was bold and fearless in condeming wrong, but charitable to a fault. He was loved, honored and respected by all who knew him, and in passing away the neighborhood has lost a good man whose counsel was much sought after. The church and Sunday School has lost a conscientious and consistent worker, and the home has lost a devoted husband and dear good father. Peace to his soul.
The funeral services were held at the U.B. Church in Independence, this [Thursday] afternoon at two o'clock. Rev Dwyer officiating, after which interment will take place in Riverside Cemetery, at Attica.
-------------

August 10, 1916
AUTOS COLLIDE AT RIVERSIDE
-----
Mrs. Dan Waymire and daughter, Mrs. Warren Collyer, of Independence and their guest, Miss. Edith Greenlee, of Joplin, Mo., who were driving a Ford touring car collided with the car of Rev. W. H. Haynes of this city Monday morning at Riverside. The accident happened at the cross roads just north of the Wabash railroad tracks at Riverside. Mrs. Waymire, Mrs. Collyer and Miss. Greenlee were driving over from Independence to spend the day with W. H. Cain in Riverside and were driving south. Rev. W. H. Haynes was driving for Phile Duffield, the assistant carrier on rural route six out of this city and was driving east on the river road out from Attica. The weeds were very high at the crossing and obstruct the view both to the north and west from the crossing. Rev. Haynes, however, had seen the car driven by the ladies when it was quite a distance from the crossing. He was so much nearer the crossing than they, he said, that he thought he had plenty of time to make the crossing before they could reach it. Mrs. Collyer who was driving the other car, saw the smoke of what she took to be a train in the distance and she speeded her car up to make the railroad crossing before the train, she not having seen the Haynes car. Rev. Haynes did reach the crossing a moment in advance of the other car, but not soon enough to prevent it plunging into the side of his machine, and turning it over into the ditch. Both Rev. Haynes and Mr. Duffield were thrown out, and the ladies were also thrown from their car. Fortunately no one was hurt, save receiving a severe shaking up.
Mrs. Collyer's car suffered the greatest damage, both front wheels being smashed to pieces and one lamp smashed. Some of the stay rods underneath the bed on Rev. Haynes' car were broken, the fenders bent and the bed caved in at one point. Mr. Duffield had to telephone to Attica for another car to finish his mail route.

Frances Townsend Waymire

February 18, 1910
Tippecanoe County, Indiana
-------
FRANCES WAYMIRE

The death of Mrs. Frances Waymire, of Buck Creek, occurred yesterday morning at 11:30 o'clock at St. Elizabeth hospital. Mrs. Waymire was taken to that institution about five weeks ago and her death was caused by the infirmities of age. She was born in Tennessee on January 27, 1830, her maiden name being Frances Townsend. She came from Tennessee to Clinton County, Indiana, and was married there to John Waymire in 1859. The Waymire family moved to Tippecanoe County forty years ago. Mr. Waymire died about eleven years ago. He conducted a store at Buck Creek for a number of years before his death. Mrs. Waymire was a woman of many good qualities and was held in high esteem by all who knew her. She was devoted to her home and family and was an ideal mother. She had been a devout member of the United Brethren Church for fifty years and was an earnest worker in the church at Buck Creek. Two daughters, Mrs. Allis Dunwoody, of Logansport, and Mrs. E. C. Crider, of West Lafayette, and one stepdaughter, Mrs. Annette Pittsenbarger, of Buck Creek, survive. The remains were taken to the family residence in Buck Creek and the funeral will be conducted from the U. B. Church at that place tomorrow morning at 10:30 o'clock. The interment will be made in the Hollywood Cemetery.

There is a Jonas Waymire listed in the 1830 census in Newport,TN, Cocke Co. There is also listed Valentine Waymire. I thought he might be the father of Jonas although Jonas isn't listed as one of his children. Back then a lot of times they used their middle names. For instance Valentine's given name is Valentine Frederick but he used Frederick.

Cindy, have you found anything on your family yet? Was Jacob Henry's father also named Jacob Henry? Your Jacob Henry is in the 1920 Ohio Census. There is also another Jacob Henry who is 30 years older and he is also in the 1920 Ohio Census. I have the ancestry of the older Jacob Henry. They may be father and son. The older one was married to Lydia J Cruey.

Ed Waymire
