Terrible Tragedy
Mesquite, March 31 - At Edward's schoolhouse was the scene of a bloody tragedy a few evenings ago. Two young men, Ike Allen and Jim Weatherford, engaged in a fight. Allen whipped out his knife and cut Weatherford's throat. Bud Weatherford, a brother of Jim, walked in front of Allen and asked him why he killed his brother, whereupon Weatherford drew his pistol and shot Allen through his breast. The ball entered the left nipple and came out at the back. Allen died in a few hours after being shot. Weatherford cannot recover.
