Thanks Cherylyn,
Drat! I had hopes about the origins of Simeon in Benalla but no luck it seems. I would also like to know the origins of the Moreys in Benalla but that too may be lost in the mists of time. Thank you for finding the relationships of the witnesses to Alice Morey. That makes things clearer.

May I ask the source of the births of the children? I assume they were not on the marriage certificate.

Another question, who was the officiating minister for the marriage?

Kind regards, Joy.

Hi Joy

The surname of one is very hard to read, but it looks like Andrew CLAMPTON?

It could be Andrew CLUGSTON, as there was a man by this name living in Benalla in the 1860s-70s. His wife was Ellen CHURCH (m. 1864 Vic).

The other witness is Margaret MOREY (must be a relative of Alice). Ah yes - a Margaret CHURCH married Chas Langdon MOREY in 1862 Vic.

So it seems maybe the witnesses are linked thru the MOREY-CHURCH families?

Don't know if that helps any with why Simeon went to Benalla though!

Hi Cherilyn,
Thanks for taking the trouble to reply to my query.

Yes, that is my Simeon WEATHERILL. I knew of the 3 children but not the unnamed 4th. Always something new pops up.

Do you have any names of witnesses on the certificate? I would dearly like to know why Simeon went to Benalla and maybe the names of witnesses may give me some ideas.

Regards, Joy.

Hi

I have a marriage certificate that has 3 marriages from Victoria in 1873.

One of these is linked to my family (CLOSE-HOSKIN) but another is of a Simeon WEATHERILL, b. Stokesely that I think has to be related to the family you are researching.

He married Alice PHILLIPS (nee MOREY) on 8th March 1873 in Benalla, Victoria at the Primitive Methodist Parsonage. He is shown as a labourer aged 28 and she a hotelkeeper ad widower with 8 children. Both show usual residence as Swanpool. His parents are difficult to read but looks like John & Elizabeth.

They had a further 4 children together, all born in Benalla: Simeon (1874), unnamed male (1875-1875), Alice Grace (1877) and James Wileston (1879). Alice's first husband was Wm PHILLIPS; they married in 1853 and also lived in Benalla. Wm died in Dec 1871, according to the 2nd marriage cert.

Alice born Haselbury, England to Wm & Alice nee PURCHASE.

Let me know if you would like further details.

:-)
Cherilyn

He died during the civil war. he was married to Elizabeth Falls. What caught my attention, is that yours had a brother named Davis. Mine had a son named Franklin Davis, that went by Davis Weatherill. Davis settled in Columbia co, PA. Interested in corresponding.

Ken
I have not been able to locate his parents this far, but I have a great deal of his descendants done and am willing to share. His wife was Elizabeth Falls Wetheral born 1822 in PA, died 1904 in PA. Their children:
Mary Augusta Wetheral Lyons, 1852- 1925
Franklin Davis Weatherill, 1854- 1941
Sarah Jane Wetheral Potter, 1857- 1931
Roland Curtis Wetheral 1859- 1943
Charles Clark Wetheral 1862- 1934
All born and died in PA.

William born 1823, Thomas born 1825, Robert born 1827, Martin born 1831, Jane born 1834, Alfred born 1839 and Sarah born 1842. The later 2 were born in Leeds and the others were born somewhere near York. Anyone have any of these in their tree?

I would love to help - although I must confess that since I posted this message I've all but given up[ on tracing my family tree. My my brother has taken up the mantle on this. Perhaps when he has exhausted his efforts I'll get him to email you some pointers?

Anyway a good place to start is to find out whether you are related to me. Where are you from? Are you related to Sir Bernard Weatherill (Former speaker to the House of Commons)? You see we are - and this is a good place to start as then we can trace back family connections. As a family we are from Windsor originally - but now many of us now reside in Norfolk...

Good Luck
James
I am searching for my WEATHERILL relatives. I have info that Robert Weatherill DOB 1855 in Kexby, England(son of Samuel Weatherill and Anna Owens) came to USA in 1906 with wife, Frances Wilson DOB 1858 Wheldrake, England (daughter of George Wilson and Jane Barton). They had 9 children who made the journey to the USA with them. They settled in Washington State, USA. I have no idea if Robert had any siblings or if any came to the USA. Supposedly Robert had a sister, Margaret, married to Mr. H.O.N. Peterson in Washington State. Any info would be helpful. lambburges@mindspring.com

Just last week I visited the graves of Thomas Leaper Weatherill and Maria Miller in Panama, Iowa.
Following is information I have, which I have gotten from others, but have not proven.
Robert Weatherill and Rachel Leaper married at Keyingham, Yorkshire 29 December 1825.
Thomas Leaper Weatherill christened 5 July 1829

Re: Weatherill Ancestors

Dear Kenneth;
I do think we are talking about the same Asa....I don't know about his siblings, but I did have a relative once tell me that Asa had a brother Davis. I have had no info to prove this. The only info I have had about any Wetheral's in Lycoming county, PA in the 1840's was an article I found from the Muncy Luminary that told of a John Wetherill of Lewis township comitting suicide on April 10, 1841. All the article tells about descendants is that "he left a wife and several children to mourn their bereavement". I do hope this helps. Kimberly Weatherill Flook

My g-aunt was Charlotte Heard Weatherill. According to what I know, her brothers Thomas James Heard, William and James Heard came to the states (Michigan) in 1857-58 and sent for two sisters- Charlotte and Anna. They were all born in Tavistock, Devon England. Charlotte was born about 1839 according to an English census. The part of Mich that they first settled in was the upper peninsula. I have no information on Charlotte other than her married name. Doe this fit in with any of your clan?
