Hi Dane, I know your nephew Peter, we are friends on facebook. Your brother came to visit my dad (hugh) when we lived in Southport when i was a kid. Peter mentioned that you knew stuff about ancestry when i sent him the family trees last year but he didn't share your contact details. I think we are 2nd cousins or something like that. I have got a pretty good family tree that one of our cousins sent to me, she is descended from Florence Cottoms sister and lives in OZ. My e mail is sammy.mccallum@virginmedia.com feel free to contact me. xx xx

Hi, thanks for the information, you are right to suggest the Webbon name is dwindling, although i do have a younger brother called George, he is only 17 as of yet but i am sure he will help to take the name forward. I have just been given free access to the 1911 census records and came across a number of our relatives. My Grandad was born in 1910 but sadly passed away in 1972 when i was one. My dad did mention that there were a few relatives in OZ and the USA. Its quite amazing when you think about family connections and also how before globalisation the chances are, we would have all known each other! Thanks for the info. Much appreciated. It would be great to find something out about Florence Cottom (such a starnge name) All the best,
I am also on the old Facebook, although i have a privacy setting on it. Try and find me under Sam Webbon (Mccallum) or my husband Dibs McCallum it would be good to connect x

Sam x

Hello Sammy, no it is not a made up name!! Cyril was my grandmothers brother and there were 13 of them i think. The name Webbon is dwindling though as there seems to be a few sons to carry on the name.Iwould love to have the time to trace all the Webbon tree and the computer savvy, but i am not very good !! The name George Webbon appears to be a family name and also the name Aaron/Arrum.Florence was my grandmother and there was Alice and Hannah.Alice was a G.I. bride and she went to America to marry a Wayne Hughes. Thier daughter is called Vicki Lynne Hughes Hull and we are in contact on Face book.I do have some dates but will have to look them up. A lady called Susannah has contacted me from Australia, this is in connection to our great grandmothers maiden name !!

I hope no-one minds me butting in with nothing to add, but i have been asking my Dad, Hugh, son of Cyril about the Webbon name and history for as long as i can remember and he knew nothing. Having read the previous thread i now have names of my Great Grand parents, which is wonderful. If anyone has any information that they don't mind sharing i would be most appreciative of it. It's such an unusual name i thought that for a while it must have been a made up name! Many thanks Sam McCallum nee Webbon

In 1881, Lucy's husband was George b 1856 - also Middlesex. He was also a hairdresser

Is there any possibility that they emigrated? I have done christian name searches to check for mis-transcription but there is nothing. Two other possibilities:

They have been missed off the 1901

George died and Lucy re-married before 1901. The children may be under her new married name in error on the 1901 census

The only thing I can find is that her brother George Wilson Webbon married Florence Cottom in 1899 in Salford. This doesn't prove that the rest of the family were in Lancashire in 1899.
George & Florence had a daughter Jessie aged 1 on the 1901 census
You should include FULL 1891 details of the family to try and help trace them
WEBBON family mystery

I'm trying to trace the whereabouts of the Webbon family at the turn of the last century. I know they moved from London to Salford in the late 1870's/1880's, I have the 1881 and 1891 census returns for them, both of which they are living in Pendleton in Salford, but in 1901 none of them appear. I have a Lucy Emma Webbon in my family tree, b:1882, but I can't find any other records for her.
Is anyone else researching Webbons, or can anyone suggest where they might be in 1901?
Any replies very much appreciated. Benn Westwood.
