I am researching for a descendent of John "Jack" W. Weddel and Mary "Polly" Curry / Isaac Yount bn. 1809 / William N. bn. 1844/ Grace Weddle bn. 1888. The descendent tells that the family always considered themselves "Black Dutch". However, knows very little beyond that statement they have heard many times from their now deceased relative. Given the migration path Hawkins County, Tn to Jackson County, In. and the fact that the families they lived among are known "Black Dutch" / "Melungeon" / "mixed race" (what ever term that best suits) families. It appears to be very true what they have been told. Yet, I've been unable to tie down exactly, where the melungeon heritage begins. Does anyone have insight.
