Classification: Query
Surnames: Wegner, Purvis, Goin
My aunt asked me to look into her grandfather's Civil War history. I couldn't find him, and started trying to trace her family back. My aunt's name is Wegner. Her mother's name was DeVerda Beatrice (Purvis) Wegner, b. 1888, d. 1967. DeVerda married George F. Wegner, b. 1886, d. 1962. They lived and died in Adair County, IA. DeVerda's parents were William and Susan (Goin) Purvis. It appears they married in IA. William appears to be William E. Purvis, who served in the 18th Iowa Infantry during the Civil War. I was able to find pictures and other information my aunt was able to use to verify her grandmother was Susan (Celestie Francina) Goin. I found Susan/Celestie on rootsweb trees with three children, Vernon (d. 1918), DeVerda Beatrice, and Nina. My aunt related that Vernon died in World War I, and it was a shock DeVerda never recovered from. My aunt also remembered that Nina died young of scarlett fever. Since each tree I looked at showed Susan/Celestie married to an unknown Purvis, I thought this might help anyone interested in that line.
