When you hear the term Pennsylvania Dutch, you can be fairly certain that they were of German origin or lived in an area settled by Germans. They were a group of people who emigrated from Germany and Switzerland to eastern Pennsylvania in the 17th and 18th centuries, or their descendants. The spoken language is a dialect of German mixed with some English that is spoken in eastern Pennsylvania by this group which continues to this day.
Be aware that the census takers were often not well educated so may have misspelled many of the Germanic surnames so you should assume that names with variations of spelling may or may not be related. It's best to verify with identical dates of birth, death, and either siblings or parent names. Genealogy is a fun puzzle.

If you have access to search in Perry Co., Pa., you need to visit the Perry Co. Historical Society. There you can review the files in the Lenig collection. It's an awesome collection of newspaper clippings, many from mid 1900's. Those and the card catalog may give you many clues. There are also many microfilm records available. Good luck.

There are at least two families of Weibley's in and around Perry County. My grandfather, John S. Weibley, was born in Cumberland County. My mother dated a Wm. Weibley in Perry Co. before meeting my father, Walter W. who was born in Cumberland Co. I've never been able to connect the two families although I suspect that there was a sibling relationship there somewhere. Do you have evidence of origin of the family name?

You should go to rootsweb.com (its free). In the 2nd column about half way down is USGenWeb Project. Click on that and it will take you to the states, go to Pennsylvania and then pick the county you want. It seems to me I have seen that name when searching there. Hope that helps.

Pam

I too am seeking information about the Weibley family name and how we all fit together. My father was Carl Donald Weibley, his father Walter Webster Weibley and I believe his father was John S. Weibley. I tried to email Ed on his site but his email link is directed to his hard drive instead of a webpage.
