Francis Neuertz and Catharine Weinand were from Trintgen Luxembourg. My family ancestors settled in Ozaukee county Wisconsin. There son John Neuertz [Neiers]and Eva Winkle daughter Anna Neiers is the ancestor that came to Ozaukee and married Peter Guidinger in Luxembourg. So my Catharine which would be my gr gr gr gr grandmother was from the 1700. Do you have any information on Catherine from Luxembourg? Thanks

I am working on the line of Alexander Weinandt and Anna M Jemming. They had two sons born in Wisconsin in the early 1860s, prior to Alexander's 1863 death in Ozaukee County, WI. Their two sons were John and Alexander. Anna M. remarried to Mathias Kessler, and had additional children.

Son John Weinandt married Anna K Friedenbach on October 10, 1883 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Westphalia, Shelby Co., Iowa. Their large family ended up in Cedar County, Nebraska.

Alexander married Katherine ?? in Iowa about 1886, and his family lived in Emerson, Dixon Co., Nebraska.

The eldest child of Mathias Kessler and Anna M Jemming was Nicholas, and he also married a Friedenbach, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Westphalia, Iowa.

I have completed most of my Weinand family research from 1852 (arrival of Mathias & Margaretha (Schroeder) Weinand from Steinsel, Luxembourg to Ozaukee Co., WI. The entire family relocated to Corcoran, Hennepin Co., MN in 1856.) Through three generations in America. I am now in the process of connecting this Weinand family with Steinsel, Lux. families. I have back through two - three generations of parents but trying to connect siblings. Please let me know if you have Weinand's from Steinsel or Mullendorf area of Lux.

Thanks.
Hi to Weinands from St. Wendel, Germany
My maiden name is FLECK and I have traced the line back to 1741 in Tholey, Germany which is about 15 miles or so from St. Wendel. This FLECK line went to Lake County, IN and settled in the Hobart, Liverpool,(Lake Staion) area. My Great Grandfather married Anna GOTTLIEB who had come to Chicago from the Ralingen area in Saarland. Ralingen is "just" across the Süre River from Rosport, Luxembourg. I have visit all the above mentioned towns. Anna had a child, Catherine was was born about 1858/59 in Chicago. This Catherine/Katherine married a Weinand. They lived in the Merrillvill/Crown Point Indiana area. Wondering about a connection????

I work more hours now (teacher).

If you will log into genforum.com message boards, there is a posting there that basicly explains my Weinands. Go to the Weinand message board to #9. That is basicly what I have...my cousin did not record the siblings of the family when he was in Germany. (I will ask him, however!). He did say that he thought our Weinands were from Luxembourg, however, before they came to Germany. Thanks....Please keep in touch!

Sue Bartz Gillespie

Weinand genealogy

I am researching a Weinand branch of my family. This is what I know. Joseph (or possibly Anthony) Weinand married Magdalina Mueller (Miller) in Northern Ohio. They both may have been from Kobbms Germany. They had two surviving daughters born about 1894 and 1895 in Lorain, Ohio. Joseph is said to have died in a construction accident while working as an Ironworker on Cleveland's high level bridge. I'm guessing that this happened about 1908. His wife, (my great grandmother) remarried John Mertz who had one child together, my grandmother Mabel Mertz Henry. Does anyone have more definative information about the origins of Joseph Weinand.
Of the two Weinand girls, Catharine married Frank Krut(s)ch. Louise married Milo Minch.

She had a daughter, Susanne Horst, born Jan. 14, 1859 in Ruwer. My email is violet_55_98@yahoo.com

Susanne B.

Hi,

I checked a German map and discovered your Weinands to be about 25 miles south of ours (located near Luxembourg). Ours are near Trier, Germany. The towns they list are Katzenbach, Wittlich, Kockelsberg, and Kordel. Not sure if last one is near Trier or not. In fact,I only find Wittlich on the map.) I descend from Susanne Weinand, daughter of Peter Weinand (c. 1767-1837), who married Margeretha Dengel (?-1849), near Wittlich. Adam Weinad(Peter's parentage) married Susanne Scheidel, and they both died in 1833 in Katzenbach, near Trier.

If this helps, please be in touch.

Thank, Sue

hi can any one help .i have the name weinand in my family tree (my mother) and have just dicovered that my gg grandfather was born in prussia in about 1829 .but things are not quite that simple.his marriage took place in england in 1860 to a sarah keeley and his name is shown as CHARLES MATIAS WEINaND and a second entry shows CHARLES MATHIAS WEINAuD ..He is shown as CARL DURMONT WEINAND on his childrens birth certs some of which also show the name WEINAUD as a second entry. From the 1881 census of england i have found out that the family were living in HALLE,germany some time after 1869 where at least two children (clara and albertina)were born, until at the latest 1880 this being the year that sarah his wife died here in england.dose the name veriation WEINAUD mean anything to anyone or indeed dose any one know of charles/carl or his family in prussia / halle.of note he had two sons george and charles of whom i have no details other than their birth there being no trace of them having any family here in the uk the only off spring seem to be from a 4 th son (the first also called charles having died at birth) heineich my great grand father through whom all weinand in this country seem to have came from. thankyou judy

Hi Susanne,
I noted your e-mail from sometime back - hope you still check this. I noted your work on the Weinand's from Lux. I am doing some extensive work on my Weinand's who were in the Steinsel area of Lux. Currently working on the data from late 1700's to mid 1800's. After the mid 1800's very few Weinand's appear in this area's data (Stenisel). My family left in 1852. Would like to share Weinand family information. I have grouped a number of Lux Weinand (Weynand) families but have not connected all of them yet. Currently I have back to my GGG grandparents birth and death cert's and their parents names. I live near a library that has all of the Lux data. Let me know or e-mail me. Look forward to hearing from you. We definitly have some Weinand frist name connections i.e. Susanna, Mathias, Peter, etc. all are in my family tree. I know children were named after parents, grandparetns or uncles and aunts. Thanks. Allan

This may be a connection. I noted in one fo your posts your Weinand had the middle name of "Mathias". My GGG Grandfather was Mathias Weinand born in 1804 in Lux. (Steinsel, Lux.) I have found that families always used parents names, grandparents and sibling names in naming their children. Mathias is a very prominent name in my line of Weinand's. Middle names were sometimes Uncles or Aunts or godparent's names. My Weinand family came from the Steinsel area of Lux. where there were many Weinand's (Weinand, Weynand, Wyand or Wynant all variations used for the name on Luxumborg birth, death and marriage records). I can get you Mathias's family names - you may want to check records in and around this area of Lux. This may not be a match - but thought I would share what I am working on. Good luck.

Sorry that name has not come up in my recent research on records in Luxumburg. I have looked at a number of Weinand (or variations) families records (birth, death, marriage) and am matching Weinand family members from the mid 1700's to late 1800's in or around the Steinsel, Lux. area (where there were a number of Weinand's residing at this time.) Do you have the approximate time of marriage, birth or death for this Weinand family member and location?

Kasper and/or Philipp Weinand

Does anyone have connections to my family? My great-grandfather was Philipp Weinand, born November 6, 1833, someplace in Germany. The oral tradition says Koblenz; an obituary says "Kohem" (Cochem?). He emigrated in 1857 and lived in Indiana (enlisted in the Union Army there in 1862). His marriage record lists his parents names as Kasper and Kathrina.

I suspect Philipp had some relatives in Indiana, but don't know of any connections. I don't know of any brothers, sisters or anything about his German roots other than the first names of his parents.
