Note many of the Wein's came from Denmark. At the time they left this was now under German control. Many first settled in MN and then went to other parts, like New York, etc. Some even left and went to Austrilia.

Hi. Sorry I've not had time for gen research lately; probably won't till late summer. Meanwhile, need to make a quick trip to Germany mid July. If by then, and by ANY CHANCE you get clues to where in Germany old/or new boundaries the WEINS were from, please email me and I'll try to get to that region at least for a day if at all possible and see if I can discover anything further. Best wishes.

Francis Weins San Francisco 1942

Is there a 'city directory' for 1942 for the city of San Francisco?
I am looking for a city directory listing that gives the person's occupation not a phone book. Francis J. Weins [1892, Grant County, Wisconsin-1946, Missoula, Montana] was listed in the 1942 'older men' draft registration which I have a copy. According to the information he gave on the registration form, he lived at 701 Sunnydale Avenue in San Francisco, California. His 'business' address was 5200 Mission. The form does not state if Mission is a street or avenue, etc. He signs the form Dr. F. Weins. The person he listed as 'name of person who will known your address' on the form is Helen Weins. The form does not give the relationship of Helen to Francis. But they live at the same address. She is probably his cousin, Helen. His second wife's name was Ella.
I would like to know if any San Francisco directory from about 1937-1945 lists Francis' occupation. He was a chiropractor but listed as a doctor on some forms. The draft registration form only states 'own business' under employer's name.
Francis Weins was in Missoula, Montana, in 1937 and in Noxon, Montana in 1945-1946. So, he would not have been in San Francisco before 1937 or after 1945.
Any information on Francis Weins between 1937-1945 is appreciated. He had no children from either of his two marriages. His widow is listed as Ella Weins in his 1946 Montana obituary. She has not been located anywhere after Francis' death and is not buried with him in Montana. He is listed as divorced on his 1946 Montana death certificate.
The story of this family is rather sad. My mother was a Haubris - one of twin daughters born to Matt (John Mathias Haubris and Mabel Rice Haubris) in 1920. Several years ago I did genealogy work. I have a newspaper clipping of the death of Paul and Marion's son, Paul Frederick Haubris, Jr., on July 20, 1918 in France (WW1). It also tell of the murder of his sister Florence, died (murdered) April 18, 1917, in Seattle, WA. The case was never solved.
As you can see the middle name I have is Frederick not Ferdinand. Sr. P. F. Haubris of Seattle, WA, was a police office. He was born in Castle Rock, Minnesota (Dakota County)2-6-1863 and died in Seattle, WA, 9-27-1928.

I have been dong research on the Weins family for the last several years off and on, as time allows. This is what I have to date : My grandmother Norma Louise (Weins) Walters & her sibilings ; Lena (Weins) Dingee, Peter F. Weins , Marion (Weins ) Walters(?) died shortly after giving birth in 1925, Catherine Loouise (Weins) Conrad, Henry Weins (lived in New York), and William G. Weins. Their parents were Frank Weins (my g grandfather) and Anna Fox. Frank's sibilings were : John, George, Christ,Jacob, Fred, Lizze (Elizabeth), Minnie, Wiliam, and Louisa. Their parents were John Weins and Caroline Weisel (Weizel). Haven't found records of yet on sibilings of John. I do have John's Death Certificate from Pennsylvania, Certificate says he was born in 1840 in Germany and he died Sept. 1, 1918 and is buried in Forest Hill Cemetery in Scranton, Pa.. His parents are listed as John Weins and Mable ?atta??? (can't read the letters for the ? marks), she was born in Germany also.

Sorry didn't mean to ramble on, hopefully a connection comes out of this.
According to the 1900 Census : My GG Granfather was born January 1842 in Germany ; Immigrated in 1857 which he would would have been 15 years old. His wife Caroline WEISEL/Weizel was born June 1852 in Germany ; immigrated in 1855 which she would have been about 3 years old. Children in the 1900 Census has children listed as: My G grandfather Frank Weins: d.o.b. Oct. 1878; Jacob: d.o.b. March 1881; Fred: d.o.b. December 1882; Lizzie: d.o.b. March 1886; Mamie: d.o.b.
Thanks for reply. Have you found any naturalization records or passenger immigration/emigration records for any of your early WEINS members? My gg grandfather WEINS (first name and spouse name yet unknown) had at least: Anna b. abt 24 Apr 1834 in Germany (probably Prussia). She had at least 3 siblings, one was John born between abt 1835 and before 1850. I was told all those children were born in Germany. Am not certain if the oldest WEINS and spouse emigrated but dau. Anna WEINS emigrated abt 1850 and I suspect with her parents. I believe some of these WEINS were in areas of Calumet, Winnebago and Iowa counties of WISC as they moved westward, eventually in to Minnesota.
Is the John WEINS, NY 1860 Fed Census Index in your family?

Peter Weins [1862, Grant County, Wisconsin-1937, Missoula, Montana] was the son of Nickolas Weins [1828, Germany-June 01, 1863, Potosi, Grant County, Wisconsin] and Gertrude Adams Weins [1832, Koblenz, Rheinland, Germany-1903, Grant County, Wisconsin]. Nickolas and Gertrud's first names are spelled differently on almost every source I found.

Peter had an older brother, John Weins [1860, Grant County, Wisconsin-1939, Grant County, Wisconsin. John lived in Iowa [1900-1910 census] and Colorado [1920 census]. They had a younger sister, Mary Katherine Weins [September 3, 1863, Grant County, Wisconsin-before 1903] who was born in September after their father died of a snake bite on June 01, 1863. Nothing more is known about Mary Katherine.

Gertrud Adams Weins married John Flesch, Junior, in Grant County, Wisconsin, on March 28, 1864. They had five more children.

Peter Weins married Marguerita Heinrichs [December 24, 1862, Grant County, Wisconsin-1922, Audrain County, Missouri] on April 14, 1885, in Potosi, Grant County, Wisconsin.

Marguerita Heinrichs was the only child of Matthias Heinrichs [1834, Germany-1894, Grant County, Wisconsin] and his first wife, Barbara Wiewel [1834, Rhineland-Pfalz, Germany-January 1, 1863, Grant County, Wisconsin]

Peter and Marguerita had four children, born in Wisconsin. They moved to Cerro Gordo County, Iowa before the 1900 census. They moved to Audrain County, Missouri after the 1910 Cerro Gordo County, Iowa census.

They moved to Hidalgo County, Texas during World War I remaining through the 1920 census.

Marguerita Heinrichs Weins died August 7, 1922, in Audrain County, Missouri. Peter Weins died in Missoula, Montana on July 08, 1937.

Is there anyway you can get the death certificate of Peter Weins, there it should list the parents names and place of birth. I have no information about Peter other than Peter Wein was a child, of John F. Wein, could be one and the same..

there is a Jerome or James Wein in Lake Hausu, maybe you can get his address and maybe this Peter is a relative of his.

If you are Wilma Beckner, I do not remember ever speaking with you and if that is so, you would have received the information from other sources. Most of the information I have was passed on to a Steenberg in-law...said information taken from a large old SWEDISH family Bible that has "disappeared". Some other information (more modern/US) was from a cousin and then what research I've had time to do over the years, a little at a time. RE: computers, mine is fine, but the operator is yet learning how to scan and do other fun things. Meanwhile, I'd be happy to xerox and mail to you some items you would like. Some historical info about Matt Haubris & a few photos; also my grandmother Louise K. HAUBRIS married Louis STEENBERG. I have MUCH descendant info there, and just this last week, nearly daily, have received a WEALTH of records from SWEDEN re: that STEENBERG line. All confirmed/correct. So, do keep in touch. I'll start getting some copies together here in next week or so, and let you know when they're ready to send. I'll look for some of your other info on line and see if you reference an e-mail add that I can contact you at directly. Meanwhile, I'm also trying to put on-line the information I have. Bye for now...and THANK YOU.

Hi relative. Glad to hear from you. I have been in touch with you or at least another of your cousins before. I have most of the information you sent but not all. I do not know where in Prussia that Haubris or Weins came from but am trying to locate the area. No luck so far. I have some pictues, some tin types also. we need to share them. I have a computer that has seen better days to I have not been doing much with the family tree recently. It also is time consuming to even read my e-mails. I intend on getting a new one but busy at work and haven't had much time for any thing. I am sure you would like to have copies of some of the pictures I have. Mostly the Haubris side. I remeber going to family reunions in Minnisota and Canada with my mother when I was in high school. Canada would have been the Roach family I believe. Wish I had paid more attention back then to names etc. My mother Marion Haubris, daughter of Matt and Mabel, did some work on the family tree and I have put most of her informaiton on the computer. Sure wish I had done it sooner while she was still alive but I was too young and not interested in family trees until recently. We need to keep in touch so that I can get some pictures together for you. I will go through them and let you know what I have. I have quite a few that I don't know any thing about. Maybe someone else will know who they are.

I may have some information but I also am looking for more. My grandparents were John Mathias Haubris and Mabel Roach. My mother was Marion, one of John and Mabel's twin daughters. I am trying to locate more info on Anna and the family. I have found a different spelling for Haubries. My mother had done some work on the Haubris side before she died. I also remember going to some family reunions with her when I was younger. I would very much like to share what information I have. Wilma

I had information that Mary Adams was married but not her husband's surname. Anna Marie was born May 29, 1844, in Luxembourg but no town name has been found. Some of my information on Matthias Adams is contradicted by other sources. He was born May 11, 1837, in Germany according to one source. His father was Matthias Adams, Senior. His mother was listed as Margaret Daum on his sister's death certificate.
Matthias and Anna Marie were married September 25, 1860 Saint Thomas Catholic Church, Potosi, Grant County, Wisconsin. I have a list of 12 children's names for which I was able to estimated their ages from one Grant County census form that I found. One source told me that the only other married child from this family was Nicholas Adams [September 23, 1881-January 4, 1957] who married Viola Keehner [August 11, 1886-May 7, 1965] on February 23, 1909. I have more information which is too long to post here.

The specific information I am looking for is Michael Weins' dates and locations of birth, marriage, death, and burial. He does not appear in any record found for the family. I received his name from another person who researched the Adams side of this family. She was only able to find his name. He is not listed as buried with his wife in the family cemetery in Grant County, Wisconsin, near Lancaster. Only his wife, one son, Nicholas and one daughter, Anne-Marie seem to have come to the US.
Their first names are spelled differently on every record I found for this family. Anne Marie and Nicholas are 16 years apart in age and no other children have been located for Michael and Ann-Margaret Weins.

Need help to confirm info abt: Paul Ferdinand HAUBRIS b. abt 06 Feb 1863/MN to Hubert and Anna (WEINS) HAUBRIS. I was told he lived in California, and died about 1917. But I wonder....per 1910/US/WA (Seattle, King Co) census: Paul F. HAUBRIS, b WISCONSIN; age 47 is in a 2nd mrrg. Spouse is: Marion H. b. England; age 45. They've been mrrd for 14 yrs. A son is listed: Fred P. , b. WASHINGTON, age 9. * Meanwhile... a Paul F. HAUBRIS, Jr. appears as a WWI Private w/US Army...d. 20 July 1918. Cemetery: Tablets of Missing @ Aisne-Marne American Cemetery; City: Belleau; Country: FRANCE. He was with the 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. It seems like this could be part of the Hubert/Anna HAUBRIS line. Is the deceased war private the father (who would be abt age 55 then) or the son, who would have been a mere young man going off to war. * Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Hi! Don't think we've communicated yet so here goes: if I'm correct, your gr grandparents were Elizabeth "Lizzie" (nee WEINS) and Nelson ROBIDEAUX.
Louise Katherine HAUBRIS was my gr. mother. Interesting to read your comments and would enjoy knowing what types of records you've found for this info. Much of it is similar to mine, but for instance, I've never found yet actual birth records for Louise. Only knew she was b. abt 25 May 1871. As for a 1/2 brother for Matt...our family didn't have such info either. My notes say Matt b. abt 23 Feb 1866 (69?). Did you find an actual birth record? What was the name of the twin sister...hadn't heard of that. Was it Julia Christina...who my notes say b. abt 23 Dec 1867/d. abt 20 Jan 1867(9?). Then, there were the 3 addt'l you mention...Glorianna (b abt 22 June 1869/d. abt 25 Sep 1871); Louise and William.

This is a P.S. to my message moments ago....You mention a half-brother....to the best of my knowledge that would not seem likely. Louise was b. abt 25 May 1871; William b. abt 15 Apr 1872 & were the youngest of the 14 children. Father Hubert died 01 Jan 1875 and spouse Anna much later on 15 Dec 1890. We've never had reason to think there would have been any other mrrg of the parents. If anything it would seem likely to have been Anna, but then the 1/2 sibling would typically not have been named HAUBRIS . "Uncle Matti" was b. abt 1866/69, and his siblings born between abt 1854 through 1872...again, to our knowledge, all of the same parents. Keep me posted what you discover, please. THANK YOU.

May have responded to an older mssg from you re: this line. I believe your husband and I may be related. My gr mother was Louise Katherine (HAUBRIS ) STEENBERG b. abt 25 May 1871/MN and had 13 siblings. One, William F. or William H. b. abt 15 Apr 1872, MN mrrd a Mae TANOFF. Perhaps Archie TANOFF was related to Mae. (?) Another of William's siblings was Annie, b. abt 26 Nov 1861 that mrrd Albert PRATT. Another sibling was John Mathias b. abt 23 Feb 1866 (69?) in MN, that mrrd Mabel ROACH...my father often referred to him as Uncle Matti. There were several other brothers/sisters and names they mrrd into include: MARTIN; STEBNER; STORY; and those already mentioned above. Also, a sister Mary b. 21 Nov 1858 mrrd a Wellington PRATT, but don't know if he was a relative to the Albert PRATT mentioned above. Would enjoy communicating with you and sharing info. Thank you.

Hi. Wonder if your WEINS line connect to mine in any way? In America our line was in at least areas of WISCONSIN and MINNESOTA, and I think also ILLINOIS. The oldest one known so far was first name possibly Hubert; his wife's name yet unknown. They had at least 4 children: 2 of which names are yet unknown; John; and Anna (b. abt 24 Apr 1834 - d. 15 Dec 1890) that married Hubert HAUBRIS (in America). The WEINS emigrated about 1850 from either Prussia or Holland. I suspect this Anna is the Anna Maria WEINS christened 1833/Prussia but am not 100% certain. I was told there was also a Joseph WEINS. This WEINS and the HAUBRIS line are very difficult to trace so would appreciate comparing notes. THANK You.
