John and Michael Weishaar, who in 1843 came to Bloom from Alsace, France, and settled near the south township line on Cottage Grove avenue; the Peter Claude family, who settled on Sauk Trail in 1856 in the southeast part of the township; the Fred Lustig family, who in 1850 settled at the southeast corner of Sauk Trail and State street. All these families have descendants living in the area today.

Baden, Germany, was the former home of Cyprian Koebele, who settled here in 1848 with his wife, Mary Weishaar, who had been born in Alsace. Frank P. Weishaar left Matteson in 1856 and settled near Western Avenue on 26th street. He married Flora Koebele and after her death Frances Fuchs. Emil Weishaar and Mrs. Herman Stephen are children of Frank P. Weishaar.
