Hello,

I just discovered this website, so maybe am I a bit late...
Just wanted to say that my grand mother's name was Weishaar and she was born in Schoenenburg during the time this region was still part of the German empire. There are many members of this family living in this village and most of the unhabitants are related.
If you need any information about them, maybe I can help.
My father who grew there is still living nearby.

Best regards

Pierre-Louis

Johann Daniel Weishaar

Hello all,

I am trying to clarify some info on Johann Daniel Weishaar (b 6th Oct 1775 in Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany; d 13 Aug 1809).

Johann was married to Barbara Mergenthalerin. I can see one child of the union - Madgelena Weishaar. Magdelena is my g.g.g.grandmother.

His father is Johann George Weishaar (b 29 Apr 1721 in Keskastel, Alsace, Germany; d 8th Feb 1784 in Frederick, Maryland, USA.) I have been linked to two possible wives and cannot confirm which is correct - Maria Appolonia Boehm or Barbara Mergenthalerin.

Has anyone been able to establish who Johann Daniel's wife was, or perhaps were they both his wives at different times?
Any further information you could give me would be much appreciated. Thanks.

My father Bernard was born in Pocahontas or Ayrshire area? His birthday is April 13,1932 (not sure about year)His parents were Rose(Milefchik) and Joseph Weishaar. Their children were Leonard,Gilbert,Evelyn,Adelaide,Edwin,Melvin,Bernard,Elmer,Raphael and Joseph. The family farmed near Pocahontas, Iowa.I have not found much else on the family history but did receive some info from a distant cousin.

My mother was Jean Ann (Namer)Weishaar born in Mallard area. Her parents were Norman and Jeanette(Cone/Warren?)Namer who were from Mallard,Iowa. They also farmed. Their children were Ronald,Paul,Jean,Marilyn and Rosie.I have that family history all the way back to John Warren who came over on the Mayflower!

I was the first of six children in my family. I was adopted since my parents thought they were unable to have children. My birthday was June 10,1961 in Sioux City, Iowa. I was adopted through Sioux City Catholic Charities. Little did my parents know that the following year (and 4 more times after that!)they had their own children:David,Beverly,Lisa,Daniel and Anthony. My parents lived in Curlew,Laurens,Webb (all in Iowa). My father was a Blue Bunny milkman,a salesman for several grocery products and I think may have worked at Twin Hydraulics in Laurens, Ia at one time (would have to check on that)My mother was a homemaker and worked for Hakes Foods and Twin Hydraulics in Laurens.

I live in Sac City, Iowa and work as a 911/communications dispatcher for Sac County. I am married to Ronald Dale Williams and we have two sons,Travis Paul and Nathan Lee.Travis was born in Sac City,Ia on October 20,1983 and Nathan in Sac City, Ia on July 9,1987.

I have also found my biological parents and families if you ever want to get into that history.

My email is cindywil1979@yahoo.com

My maiden name was also Weishaar. My father was Bernard and his parents were Rose and Joseph Weishaar. There were 10 children in Rose and Joseph's family: Leonard,Gilbert,Evelyn,Mel,Adelaide,Joseph,Bernard,Elmer,RJ(Raphael),Edwin. They lived in Pocahontas,Iowa but I believe the family originated in Illinois and Germany before that. Joseph died at an early age. They farmed near Pocahontas. Rose's maiden name was Milefchik.Other than that I don't know much else about the family history and would love to find more if you have any info.

I am looking for any historical info on my Weishaar family. All I know is that my Grandmother Rose (Milefchik) who was married to Joseph (I think) moved from the Illinois area to the Ayrshire/Pocahontas Iowa area. They had 10 children: Leonard,Gilbert, R.J.,Bernard,Edward, Melvin,Joe,Adelaide,Evelyn and Joseph. The family farmed in rural Pocahontas. The father died at a very early age. Please email me directly at cindywil1979@yahoo.com if you have any info for me!

Weishaar DNA Study

The Weishaar DNA Study (Weishaar, Weisshaar, Weishar, Whitehair, or any variant spelling) is now a subgroup of the Wisinger DNA Project, which is open to all who are interested in working together to find their common heritage through sharing of information and DNA testing. Go to www.familytreedna.com and Search Weishaar. Since surnames are passed down from father to son like the Y-chromosome, the tested individual must be a male that wants to check his direct paternal line. All Weishaars of any spelling are encouraged to participate.

For more information? Send email to Project Administrator at bwissinger@buckeye-express.com.

There are many spellings of your surname. Weishar is the spelling of my family in West Virginia. In my genealogy research, I have found records under: Weishaar, Weisshaar, Weishar, Whitehair, Whitehare, and Whitehart. Go to http://www.hamrick.com/names/, enter Weishaar, and see the distribution of your surname in the US. Most Weishaars are in the mid-west and upper mid-west. Pennsylvania and North Carolina have a lot less Weishaars than the mid-west.

A Y-DNA test tells you about the direct male line, which would be the man tested, his father, his father's father, etc. We need a man with the Weishaar surname to be tested.

Your brothers could not be tested for Weishaar. However, if their surname is Reichert, there is a surname project associated with Reichert at www.familytreedna.com. Check it out if you are interested.

My gg grandfather, Joseph Weisshaar, immigrated in 1849 to the USA from Schoenenberg, Alsace, France. He lived in Kansas and West Virginia. I have found his surname spelled many ways including Weishar, which is the current spelling in 2008. A Weishar cousin of mine is enrolled in a Surname DNA Study, and we keep hoping another Weishar (any spelling) will take part. If you have a male Weishaar in your family, please ask him to participate. We are W-10 in the project results at: http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/w/wisinger/results.htm.... ~Thanks

This is the obituary (The Wheeling News-Register, Wheeling, WV) of my Joe Weishar (Weisshaar), and I bet he is related to yours. That could be determined by the DNA testing of a male descendant in your lineage. Joe served in Co. K, 13th Kansas Infantry.

DIED - WEISHAR. On Tuesday, Aug 8, 1911, at 6 o'clock a.m., at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Louisa Eichenberg, No. 1104 ½ McColloch street, Joseph Weishar, in his 86th year. Funeral services on Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Friends of family respecfully invited to attend. Interment at Peninsula cemetery. (Please omit flowers.)

Weishar Obsequies: The late Joseph Weishar, who died last Tuesday morning, was buried yesterday from the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Louise Eichenberg, 1104 ½ McColloch street, services being in charge of Rev. W. S. Dysinger of the First English Lutheran church. The members of Holliday post No. 12, Grand Army of the Republic, attended the funeral and accompanied the remains to their last resting place. The death of this comrade and a glance at the small remnant of the once great Grand Army who were in attendance brings one suddenly to a realization of the fact that most of the defenders of the union have passed away and that the few who are left will soon join their comrades in arms in the great beyond. The heroes now remaining are fast growing old and many of those in the line today could not march without assistance. The pallbearers were old soldiers and comrades of the deceased. Interment was made at the Peninsula cemetery.
