I would love to access to any Weldon information. I am looking for information on Thomas Weldon who was from NJ and in the Revolutionary War. He moved to Ohio around 1800 and owned property in Clermont County, Ohio in 1820. There is also another Thomas Weldon who lived nearby and was married in 1820 to Agnes Larrabee. Would love to find any information about these two Thomas Weldons--feel they might be father and son.

Hi all,
I am researching my husband's family. His grandmother's maiden name was Weldon and I would like more info on her family. Unfortunately this is the last person in her line that I can find:

Thomas Weldon - b. 1851 in Illinois
Married to Ellen Weldon - b. 1855 or 1857 in Illinois
They had 4 children (from what I can tell). Their son William Joseph Weldon (1877-10/23/1951) was my husband's great-grandfather.

Any info you can send me would be appreciated!
ambers.genealogy@gmail.com

Hello,
I am beginning a search of Weldons of Meath. I have very little: my grandmother, Annie Weldon, born 1887, Dublin, father Anthony Weldon. I don't have Anthony's wife or parents. The family story is the Weldon family from Trim, Meath, agreed to care for the mother of Thomas Fortune of Trim when he left for America. In return, one Weldon, my granmother, would be brought to America. She came in 1909, married into the Fortune family in ND. Any clues from your Weldons?

Hi Jerry,
Thanks for your reply, Unfortunately I have no more info on John other than the 1841 census which show his birthplace as Dublin Ireland. I found out the name of his father from his marriage certificate to his 'second wife' where it shows his father as Thomas and that he was a shepherd. I cannot go back further. I guess that Thomas would be born circa 1794 as the pattern seems to be age 21 each generation. I think the John you mention from 1854 would not be related directly.
I cannot prove my theory but I think that most of the family came to England in the late 1830s and all lived in a small village in Cheshire. The Weldon family shown as being in Newton seem to be linked because I have studied the ages of the male adults and think that they could be brothers, how I would love to be able to prove that.
Regards
Susan

Could I interject something. My name is Samuel Weldon and I live in El Paso, TX. I've been tracing my family now for over thirty years and I have proven back to my great grand father John W Weldon b Dec 1842 in Georgia according to the 1860/70/80 US census. All of his life that I've been able to find he lived in Arkansas. He married Oct 1865 in Pulaski County, Arkansas to Margaret A Mulligan b Jan 1848 in Alabame, her parents was from Ireland according to the census. We have a group of Weldon's here in the US having our yDNA checked trying to find some ancestors. Why do not you all join our group and maybe we can find some more matches. So far I do not beleive any of our matches has been outside the US. Maybe if there is more than one family or if there is only one family it might match some of the Weldon's we have on our list. Anyone interested?

Re: Weldons of County Meath

The early Weldons in county Meath seem to have lived at Raffin and later Gravelmount/Knocks. I now believe my ancestor Margaret Weldon was most probably the child of William Weldon (1750-1808) and Isabella Fleming (1755-1792). They seem to have been the last Weldons at Gravelmount. The later Weldon families around Grangegeeth are possibly descended from the family at Gravelmount/Knocks, but I don't think I'm related to them.

My ancestor Margaret Weldon married Peter Gaughran and lived just outside of Slane. Her daughter Anne married John Norris of Cruicetown and moved to the US in 1854.

Does any of this fit with your family tree?

Susan,

I am very glad to meet you. I've only been in contact with one other Weldon from our branch of the family, so was glad to get your email.

I have catalogued almost every Weldon in the history of Ireland (there are only about 250) and don't have a record for a John, son of Thomas so would like to add them to my collection. I have constructed what I believe is the entire family going back to three brothers who lived in the 1500's and another ancestor Adam Veldon born around 1400.

Actually, there are two branches of the Weldon family. The Dublin/Meath branch is as you say descended from an Anglo Norman invader. The other branch lived at Athy/Lyons in Kildare and later Rahinderry in Laois. They are descended from the English branch of the same family, but they came to Ireland in the 1500's.

Back to your family, I would love to help you find how your branch fits it to the family tree. I do have a Thomas who was living in Slane, Meath and was recorded in Griffith's Valuation in 1854. This may have been your John's father.

Can you clarify a few things;
Was John born in 1816? Was he born in Dublin or just emigrated from there?
Do you have any more info on Thomas (date of birth, place of residence, wife's name). Do you have any family history before Thomas?

Jerry

I also been trying to find a Weldon family in Massachusetts in 1807. Henry W. Weldon was born May 10, 1807 and I don't know who his parents were, or where in MA. The Weldon's I'm researching were in Massachusetts in 1836 but moved to Michigan in 1837.
He and his wife Lovina (from Erie,PA) had sons named George (B. 1836 in MA) and Charles (b.1838 in MI), as well as daughters Sarah (b. 1835 Erie,PA) Martha, Caroline & Abigail.
George Weldon's wife Betsey, was from CT but I don't know her maiden name. One of George Weldon's daughters married a Kemp.
Hi, I am a Welden by birth but I know that it should be spelt Weldon , I found this info that might be of interest to you

The family tradition is that the Weldons came to Ireland with the Anglo Normans in the 12th century.
This is supported by Dr Edward McLysaght, one of the prime authorities on the surnames which are to be found in Ireland.
He says that they originally settled in what was known as 'The Pale' , an area around Dublin, which included most of County Meath.
Again, this is the situation even today when most Weldons are to be found in this area.
I believe that the family was originally known as Veldon,

I have traced my ggg grandfather John Weldon to 1816 Dublin and his father was called Thomas Weldon and he was a shepherd. John Weldon appeared in the 1841 UK census with Betty(Elizabeth Gill)and his two children.
I have no other info prior to this.
Good luck with your searches.
I have not seen Weldon/Houska linked together yet. So, I am curious. Emma's parents were Catherine Baxa and Joseph/Unk Houska. I have found nothing on Joseph Houska (Bohemia abt 1850).

If you are in this line I have everything from 1881 to the present.
