Welty/Weldy Y-chromosome project

Dear all,
Just wanted to update everyone about the Welty/Weldy Y-chromosome project we started about three years ago. Here are the main discoveries so far:
1) Descendants of the Peter Welty who came to America in the early 1700s and who died in the 1750s in SW York County Pennsylvania, match a Swiss Mennonite Welty Family who came to America in the mid 1800s. Furthemore, this Welty clan matches a Wälti who still lives in Switzerland.
2) We've tested 3 different sons of the (Johan) Jacob Weldy/Welty who settled in the mid 1700s of Chester County, Pennsylvania and all three lines are a match. It is likely that this Jacob Welty came here from Edenkoben as described at the Antietam website. This Welty line is totally unrelated to the Welty line described above.
3) There are still two "orphan" Welty lines, who are unrelated to each other, and unrelated to the two different Welty lines described above. Both of these Welty lines claim descent from York County, Pennsylvania.
4) Results are pending for a descendant of the Philip Welty found in the mid 1700s of central York County Pennsylvania. This Philip Welty is putatively a brother of the Jacob Welty described above, and from Edenkoben.
We are still hoping that many other Welty and Weldy lines will join our project in the future. The primary goals remain the same: 1) help determine the origin(s) of the Welty (and close spelling variants) surname; 2) help guide Welty descendants in their genealogical research.
Best wishes,
Brian Hamman
