Hannah Weller was baptized in Hawkhurst Kent on 17 April 1720, the daughter of James and Mary Weller. I think that she is the same Hannah Weller who married John Knowlden on 8 November 1744 in Hawkhurst. Looking for any information about the Weller family in Hawkhurst in the early 1700s. I have not found a marriage there for a James Weller to any Mary. Any help appreciated.

I am looking for information on George Weller (1836-1915). He was born in NY, father Nathaniel and mother Nancy Fleming. He was married to Achsah White and they had Frances, Alfred, Charles, Helen and George. Achsah died in 1879 and is buried with her family in NY. George then married Mary Sutton and they had Ambert and Albert. My connection is Achsah and I am trying to track her descendents. Thanks.

Andrew (Andreas) Weller, sons George and John

I have a typewritten letter from Asa C. Weller (son of George, Grandson of Andrew (Andreas) Weller. I have typed the letter just as it was written. From dates referenced in the letter I believe this was written about 1875. My questions are about the brother of George, John Weller who was the other son of Andrew. Nothing in my research about the Canadian Wellers, who owned a stagecoach line, confirms that this is the family of John Weller from Germany, then Waldoboro, Maine. I would love to hear from anyone who can connect John Weller of Canada to the family from Maine!

LETTER: My grandfather came to this Country when my father was about 12 years old and settled in the District of Maine, Town of Waldboro. He came from Germany with two sons, and two daughters. Maine at that time was a part of Massachusettts. The sons were George and John Weller.

My father at the age of 15 went to New York on foot, no stages or railroads at that time, and had to go by marked trees; and there put himself as the apprentice to a tailor by the name of “Ricker”. At the end of his apprenticeship, Ricker gave my father a Bull’s Eye watch (the same watch that my mother left at your father’s when she was there) and $20.00 in silver, on which he came to Boston and began business, which he carried on over forty years.

My Uncle John, the father of those you mention in your letter as living in Iowa or Canada, I never saw but once, that was the time that he had got started for Canada. He told my father that he was going to seek his fortune, and we never saw or hear from him until some of his children came about. He has one William, one John, and one Asa C. (lived in Vergennes, Vermont) the same as mine, at any rate he came very near getting me into a bad scrape once. He is a lawyer by profession, but as luck would have it, I happened to spend that day with on old Quaker and went to meeting with him and his family took dinner and tea, but the next day I was arrested for breaking decanters, glasses, chairs, etc. (he dropped a handkerchief with my name on it and they thought I must have been the one).

William Weller, that lived in Canada, is, or was, very rich. He was a large stage owner, but I do not know where he is now, or what he is doing.

Father’s two sisters are both dead. One married a man by the name of Hoe (?) (could be Hoch); the other Clough (could be Klaus). There is one of their daughters has married and named their first son “Asa C.W.”. She used to live with my father.

The letter then goes on to tell of his family, brothers Andrew, Thomas, William, and sister Abigail. As he does not list George in the letter, but rather states, “Your father was the oldest”, I believe he was writing to one of George’s children.

I am hoping that someone can help me make some connections with either George or John Weller. I would love to make any connections!
Re: Weller Families in Delaware

You posted this a long time ago, so I hope you're still on this forum. I have a Delaware marriage record that I found her on ancestry.com for a Silas L. Weller, who married Sarah McClain on September 13, 1859. They are in Delaware census records until 1880. In the next census, 1900, they had moved to Maryland and stayed there the rest of their lives. In the Maryland Archives death index, I find Silas L. Weller passed away on October 26, 1913, age 75. His wife Sarah passed away on March 1, 196 , age 75. I got her deatch certificate and she died near Pomona, MD, which is southwest of Chestertown. She was buried in Chestertown, so I may have to make a trip down there to find her grave. It's reasonably likely that Silas is buried there, too.

After talking to my mother, she said my father's mother (Dorthy) went by Dot. So it appears that they are one and the same. What was your father's information? Check out my family tree for my father's info. He had a sister Charlotte as well.

Your grandfather re-married, had 2 sons (in the area) & passed away of cancer in 1983. We should talk!

My grandfather was William Alfred Edward Weller, born Brighton Sussex, August 1897.

His parents were William Edward John Weller bn Brighton 1875 and Maria Jane Harland bn Newington Surrey 1876.

On the 1901 census my grandfather is listed as the only child. I have found other siblings; Bertram bn 1911, Flora 1913-1929, Ida bn 1917 and Marjorie bn 1921 but I was told there were other children and there is a large gap between my grandfather and Bertram.

Maria died in 1923 and William senior married Rose Trill in 1924.

If anyone has any information that can help me fill in missing siblings I would be grateful.

Coral

WELLER - Macomb County (current day city of Warren)

Looking for a Michael Weller (Wills?) who had a farm in Macomb County sometime around 1905/1910 until ? - probably late teens. Possible year of birth is 1838 in Germany. Don't know of any other siblings except a sister, Mary Weller Wappler (Warbler) who married and died in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (Copper Falls, Keweenaw County) ca. 1874. I was told that Michael had no children; his sister, Mary, had 6 - 1 daughter, 5 sons. Mary is my great-great grandmother. I have been told the farm was located in what is now the modern-day city of Warren. I am trying to find out his wife's name. I was told that Michael's widow remarried and the man's name was Englebert Bammert (another relative) but I am unable to come up with any information on that, either. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

That is my problem, I don't know any of them. My father's parents died when he was 10 and all the boys went with the Catholic side and they never reached out to them. I have every piece of info on the whole family (my father's aunts and uncles) through census and info he gave me....only up to a point in time. For example, we didn't know what Nationality our last name Grant was,(Catherine Weller's husband) until my father told me where they were buried and I obtained burial records and much to our surprise, he was from Sweden. I have been at this for years. My Dad passed away in May 08. I guess it is futile to find long lost cousins. I'm stuck.
tks!

Grant is Scottish, but I can see where you might have people from Sweden.

So do you have any connection to Dad's siblings? Someone could have made this journey already.

What do you know about Catherine Weller? parents, date of entry, other people on the boat?

There are many Wellers, unfortunately everyone seems to have either Johann or George too.
Our dates do not match up and i foudn the rest of the tree stayed in Germany even now.
But I have a family tree of another group from this site,
Have you tried family search on LDS?
That is where I found my Wellers in Germany in 1830s and back.
Ours arrived here in the 1850s.
Also are they German or English as some Wellers are from England.

I found our German side - siblings and their descendants who remained in Germany- by contacting the researcher of a family that a daughter married into-
he knew the Wellers (mine) and put us together.

so if you have other family names you may get lucky- like Catherine's mother's family maybe?
