Hello... My name is Michael Walker, I live in Chicago, Il. I have recently started researching my family tree. One of the things I discovered is that on my grand father Milton Floyd Walker's death certificate, it was listed that his mothers name was REATHA OR RITHA WELLONS. I know that Milton was born in Upson Co. Ga. and my father was born in Roberta, Ga. So I'm certain that my people are from this area. From what I have discovered it apears that Reatha Wellons was a black woman, born abt 1860. My great grand father was named Benjamin Freeman Walker. He was a white man, born in 1840. I wonder if Reatha is any relation to you. Any info you may have would be aprecieted.

our family is mostly from ivor, va. surry is not far from there, has many friends and surry county. had a boy friend from surry. He died in a car accident many years ago. his name was jimmy bailey, he has a sister name jene bailey. jene bailey is a very close friend of our family.

MUSCATINE, Iowa - James Henry Wellons, 67, of Muscatine, died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, at his home.

Services will be at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home. The Rev. Robert Ahlstrom of the Lutheran Homes will officiate. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery with full military honors. Pallbearers will be Thor Christenson, Clint Fifield, Steve Fifield, John Patterson, Phillip Patterson and Mark Diercks. Honorary pallbearers will be his breakfast buddies, Donald Fifield, and Kenneth Orr, with whom he took many day trips. Vocalist will be Randy Kallenberger.

Mr. Wellons was born Dec. 23, 1932, in Muscatine, the son of Charles and Violet Dodge Wellons. He married Patsy Patterson on March 1, 1969, in Muscatine.

He was a member of the Muscatine American Legion. He retired from Oscar Mayer after 44 years of service.

Survivors include his wife, Patsy of Muscatine; three daughters, Misty Peirce and her husband, Jon , of Muscatine, Lori of Muscatine and Kathy Watson and her husband, Chris, of Muscatine; a son, Ronald and his wife, Lillith of Murray, Utah; three granddaughters; three grandsons; a great-grandchild; a sister, Marjorie Gosset of Muscatine; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and six brothers.

You have tons of relatives there in Ivor, Virginia. My great-grandfather was named Thomas Wellons. One of his sons that is my grandfather was named Marshall Wellons. My father is Leonard Wellons. My husband was born and raised in Ivor. His mother's maiden name is Wellons. Wellons seems to be a pretty common name there - you may need to differentiate between the black and white Wellons'.

Yes, the John Wellons we are researching was the son of John and Annamariah Wellons of Southampton (RoundHill) Virginia. We found his Will and it lists his children as William, Benjamin and Rebecca (who married a Exum). In some records, we find where there are about 10 children listed, but we can not find if they are all his or maybe his brothers children. As his Will only lists 3. There is no doubt we are looking for the same family. I also have several email addresses of others trying to straighten everybody out.
