Thomas Welsh, James Wilson Welsh, and James Bowen Welsh

Looking to see if anyone has any new information on Thomas Welsh, born 1799 England, son James Wilson Welsh born 1823 Montreal, and James Bowen Welsh born 1853 Wales.
In prior posts there has been mention that they all were mariners/sailors. About 10 years ago on this board, Evalyn Welsh Yamanaka mentioned that Thomas Welsh died in Canada?
She also mentioned that James Wilson Welsh sailed on the ship the "Windemere" in the north sea, and that James Bowen Welsh became a ship cabin boy at the age of 14 on a trip to India, where he was ship-wrecked?
Along with the ancestry of Thomas Welsh, I am hoping to find some factual history on these sailing experiences. I can find nothing in any records.

Thanks
Sam Gibbs

If copies of the marriage listings are available, I would appreciate copies as well. Would that aunt be Evalyn Yamanaka?
The photo I have of JWW's headstone is only of the side with his name, death date and age. Do you have copies to share of the side (or other stone) that lists his wife and their marriage date you note?
I have photos of other Welsh headstones in the N. McAlester Cem., (TOBUSKY, I.T.), Pittsburg, OK. Some of them connect to my wife's Lasley line.

I am a bit late to the board. I sent an email to Evalyn Welsh Yamanaka, but it was returned.
1) There are two family trees on ancestry.com, one indictes that Thomas Welsh was born in Wales, the other in England? Can anyone resolve that conflict for me?
2) Most of the information I have refers to Thomas Welsh's wife as 'Elizabeth McDonald', but Evalyn refers to her as McDonald-Wilson. That would certainly explain James Wilson Welsh's middle name. Can anyone confirm that for me?
3) I have enjoyed some of the stories of Thomas, James Wilson, and James Bowen being sailors! Can someone point me to historical record that would tell me more?

My great grandfather was James Bowen Welsh - my grandmother was his daughter Mary Anna Welsh. Any information anyone can provide to me would be most appreciated!

Sam

I am 26 and live in Latrobe, Pa. I saw your ad about the distance of Lancaster and Greensburg. It is about 4 hours difference. I live 15 minutes from Greensburg, Pa. I am interested in learning more about the Welsh side of my family. My father is William Steven Welsh of Latrobe. My grandfather is William Evert Welsh. I do not know much of my grandfather because he died when I was 5 years old. I believe I can find more information about the Welsh side and we can learn more. I have been wanting to trace the family tree now that I am older. Please leave me an email and I will try to find more information later this week! Thanks, Natalie A.

It would be helpful if you could provide more information such as given names and time frame.

The post most likely to get positive results is one where the users provides data on those ancestors he/she has information for and then asks specific questions on what kind of data he/she is missing.

Different time periods have different documentation available so unless you give us a time period there is no way to help you with acquiring documentation, and without a more precise location such as the county or city where your ancestors lived it is impossible to determine where to look for any documentation.

Obviously, without any given names we have have no way of knowing just who it is you are researching.

William & Mary Welsh in Alleghany (mostly) County Pennsylvania

Hi, I am researching my husband’s family. One of the surnames I am researching is Welsh.

His g-grandparents names are William and Mary Welsh. They were both born in Ireland (abt 1840 & 1848 respectively) and their oldest Daughter, Mary (abt. 1868), was also born in Ireland.

They appear on the 1880 Pa. census (spelled WELSCH,Wm) along with 5 other children born in Pa. Their names are B. E. (Barbara?) (abt. 1870), Delia (abt 1873), Annie (abt 1874), Michal (abt 1877) and Thomas (abt 1879).

From this I gather they immigrated sometime between 1868 and 1870 however I have been unable to locate their names on any ship lists for any timeframe.

I don't know where in Ireland they are from for sure, (family ‘thinks’ Mayo County), what Mary's maiden was (I've heard Kallaigh or Kalleigh but can't find that name anywhere...what might be another spelling?); Where they departed and where they landed nor what ship and date they traveled; I also don't have any other information as far as siblings for them or names for the proceeding generations, etc.

Michael (spelled Michal on the census) is my husband's grandfather; however most of the family is gone or out of touch and it’s been a struggle for every bit of information.

I would appreciate ANY information you may have about this family or suggestions you can offer to help me locate more information about this family. I am finding out that ‘William Welsh’ is the ‘John Smith’ of Ireland and I think most of them are married to Marys!

Thank you in advance!
Hi,
Edward Christie Welsh was the oldest child of Matthias Trimmer Welsh and Mary E. Hager. Matthias was a banker in Hackettstown, NJ. He had 3 other children: J. Miller, Harrison, and Ralph. Harrison was my grandfather. My father, David, was born in Hackettstown in 1924. I always knew that my father had a cousin named David and that David was the son of Christie, but not from his first marriage. I have considered looking for the other David Welsh.
Here is a link to an excerpt from a book called 'Early Germans of NJ' that mentions your grandfather:
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~njmorris/lewisbios1899/wel...

I can send you a very complete Welsh family tree if you like.
Although I grew up in NJ, I now live in Baton Rouge. Small world.
Sincerely,
Susan Welsh
Susan:

Thank you for the reply to my inquiry after all this time! My Dad, David Welsh will be turning 80 this August. He will be happy that I can patch some of his family history together so that his children and grandchildren will know more about their paternal grandfather's family. My father has always remained curious about his half brothers and sister. I assume J. Miller was the sister, no?

Very ironic that you are in Baton Rouge. My father has lived in the New England for more than 55 years now but has still remained a Southern gentleman and a great storyteller as well. That characteristic is unique to the South.

I would love a copy of the complete Welsh family tree. All this time we thought we were of Welsh descent on my father's side only to find his father was German! Again, thanks for your response.

Kristie Welsh McGonigle

Catherine Elizabeth Welsh from Co. Sligo, Ireland

Hello,

My GGG-grandmother Catherine Elizabeth Welsh was born July 4, 1835 in Co. Sligo. She moved to Sandusky, Ohio at the age of 14 with her parents. I am not sure if that was the year they emigrated from Ireland.

I know quite a bit about Catherine after she married Hugh Dunn and settled in Liberty, Marshall Co., IA. I would like to know her parent's names and any siblings. Her obit says she lived in Iowa City, IA from about 1852 to 1861 when she married. Does anyone have information on any Welsh's from Iowa City?

I believe that the surname Welsh was actually Walsh in Ireland.

Thankyou.

Re: Welsh Family of Queens, NY

The location in Queens is the Long Island City area. The time frame would be from around 1870 to 1970. The following surnames could be related through marriage. Bischoff, Schmidt & Zehner. I am leaving the message as brosd as possible in case decendants do not recognize first names but will recognize the last names. I have tried more detailed mesages in the past with no effect. This one may be more of an eye catcher. Worth a shot.
Bill

James Welsh

My great-grand father, Fred did have other brothers and sisters. The name of one was Peter. They came from Ireland thru Canada to Peck, Michigan. Where my great grandfather was an axeman in the lumber business. About 1873 they went west to Nebraska. Our James was definitely with them around Grand Island. I do not know of his coming back to Michigan. I believe he is buried in Nebraska but I do not know this. I also think his father's name was James and that his mother was Elizebeth Irvine. He was born in 1831 and she in 1829. Good luck with your search
