Jesse Welton md Sarah Catherine George 1861 Moniteau County, MO

I am searching for more information on Jesse Welton who married Sarah Catherine George in 1861 in Moniteau County, MO. They had 3 children: Monroe P., Alice, and Martha. I know something of Monroe and Martha but nothing of Alice except that she was born about 1865 according to census records. I can't find this family in 1870. By 1880 Sarah has remarried so I assume Jesse is deceased. Any help would be appreciated.

Welton family records

I was “gifted” with a box of genealogy having to do with one of my family lines after a researcher passed away. In the box is also a lot of other family lines that aren’t mine. I’ve sorted them into folders as best I can and here are the surnames and a little about them if I can tell much.

Buttrey – Wilkes Co NC (small file – letters)
Bailey – Topeka Kansas, New Castle, Pa, Youngstown, Ohio (small file, letters)
Loveless – Columbus Ohio, Washington Co., Va (small file, letters)
Wilderich – Henry Wiederick or Wilderick, b Germany 1858, pedigree chart (small file)
Hildebrand – Morgan County, Missouri, John Hildebrand b 1822 in Baden Germany m Victoria Anhauser or Enghauser – (thick file, quite a bit of research)
Trabuc/Trabue – Edward Trabue b 1764, son of John, married Martha Haskins, Jessamine Co., Ky and Va.
King – Joseph King m 1819 to Frances, Lincolnshire England
Nichols – Abner JeffersonNichols b 1837 probably Alabama, poss Missouri or Ark. (one letter only)
Swallow – from England, possible Liverpool (one letter only)
Brown – a few pages of general research
Burton/Cecelia – Philadelphia Pa, research log only
Rouse/Buler – Geoge Rouse and wife and grandfather Daniel Barlow born in Va near Culpepper Court house and moved to Boone Co Ky. (2 pages)

The ones below seem to be grouped together as I've grouped them. I would presume that these files in the groups would go to a researcher as a unit.

Group 1:
Smith – Thomas Leslie Smith, Missouri, born Pittsylvania Co, Va to John Wesley Smith and Sally Saunders Claytor Leftwich
Leftwich – Bedford Co., Va.
Gregory – includes Minter, Adair Co., Ky, other Ky counties, Powhatan Co, Va., John Gregory Rev War Vet, (quite a bit of research)
Minter – Fayette County, Ky, Powhatan Co, Va. (also in the Gregory file)

Group 2:
Bolander – Stephen Bolander b 1756 Lancaster Co Pa m Magaretha Shinkle (small file, letters)
Shinkle – Colorado, South Dakota, Ohio, Indiana, Iowa and Illinois
Bush – Catherine Bush m Philip Jacob Shinkle in Brush Valley, Center Co., Pa. (one letter only)
McConnell – Arthur in Washington Pa, then to Ky, Ohio and Indiana and then his children and grandchildren to Illinois and Iowa, John McConnell served in War of 1812 from Ohio Militia, Brown Co. Ohio
Luing – intermixed in other files
Watson – two lines, one from Oxford who never left England and one from York and Lincoln who came to the western US in the 1920s (small file, letters)
Wyatt – intermixed in other files
Logan – in the same file as Gregg, Pennsylvania, Jefferson Co., Indiana
Gregg – in the same file a Logan, Pennsylvania, Jefferson Co., Indiana

Group 3 – the familes below are all intermingled in one file – Kittaning, Armstrong Co., Pa, Mercer Co., Pa, various Pa, Va and NC counties, also Missouri,
Hellam – George Curtis Hellam m Mary Ellen Hawk
Peat – Oran Peat b 1899 m Gutherie Faye in Pa
Hawk – Daniel Hawk m Magdalena Bricker
Welton – intermarried with the above families

Group 4
Godley – Quaker, Farquier Co, Va, Georgia, Anderson Co., Tx (much research) – also see Peacock
Peacock – from Nottingham England, never came to America, Elizabeth m George Godley and their dau Sarah came to the us in 1924.

These are yours for the price of postage. First to e-mail me, first to get the file. Let me know which files you want.

Roberta Estes
Hello. Did you ever find your information about Jacob Welton? I live in his village of Weymouth near Medina, OH. There is quite a bit of information about him, as he was an early settler. Do you still want it? There is a long biography about him from the April 24, 1891 Medina County Gazette when he died, and I have a family genealogy.

I found your Isaac in the 1860,1880, 1885, 1900, 1910, 1915, and 1920 census.
You are probably not my Welton line but people have helped me and now I hope my info helps you.
In 1860 he was with his parents in Worchester, Ostego, NY he was 17. His mother Helen b. in NY in abt 1803 and father John b. in CT in abt 1809.
In 1880 he was in the census as m. to Anna Elizabeth b. in abt 1844. They had 3 of their 4 children by this time. Theressa b abt 1869, David b. abt 1876, and Ernest b. about 1880 (he was 6 mo during this census.
1885 Iowa census he was living with his w. and 3 c in Jackson, Brenner, Iowa
In 1900 census Isaac was living in Beaver, Butler, Iowa with his d. Theressa and her husband Charles H. Mc Bride. They had c. Bertha 11, Anna E. 9 yrs and Wesley age 3. Isaac's son Ernest was still with him at age 20 and he had a younger c. named Anna B. b abt 1886. So Isaac's wife Anna Elizabeth is not in this census. She must have died soon after Anna B. was b in 1886 and before the 1900 census.
In 1910 he is living with his youngest c. Anna B. in Nishnabotny, Crawford, Iowa. She has a child Louis b. in abt 1908. She m. a Vennick.
1915 Iowa census he is in Manilla, Crawford, Iowa living alone.
1920 he is in the census in Shell Rock, Butler, Iowa again living with oldest c/ Theressa, her husband Charles H. McBride, and their youngest c. Leslie McBride, b. abt 1902. I hope this helps. This is all authenticated because it is the Iowa and US Fed census. Let me know which one of the children is your grandparent and I will look into it further for you. Luck to you. Dottie

I am quite busy. I should be retired but I do the bookwork for my business. It is a full four day deal. I also do most of the taxes. BUT!! I can let you into my family tree, on line, and that will help. But I will need YOUR email. You will be able to add your ancestors and family. You also can let me know if I have any mistakes. Can I do the same with your tree? My email is blazesritz@aol.com.
I have a few pictures of my great grandfather Henry W Welton who was in the civil war. Sad to say I don't have any in his uniform but have copies of his discharge and when he joined the 6th and 7th Wisconsin. Also have two pension papers. One from Wy and one from MO.
More later. Dottie

Yes, on my mother's side. My grandfather was Charles Hobart Welton who came to Ohio in 1862 from Waterbury, Connecticut with his father. He was descended from John Welton and Mary Upson who came to America in 1667.

Charles H. Welton married Mary Elizabeth Fletcher. He was a bookkeeper on the Ohio riverboats. My grandmother, Maidie Ella Welton, was one of their children. She was born December 31, 1891.

Maidie Ella married Elmer Gyurin, a Hungarian immigrant. Their children were Elmer Gyurin Jr. and my mother, Maidie Elizabeth Gyurin.

John W. Norris

This wws mostly in the 1700"s.
I have a problem I can't find my records on them! It is alleged that Aaron and Zerah had another child name Cleri Zerah Welton, youngest brother of Junius. Would you happen to know anything about him? He was the only one born in New York. At some point, Cleri traveled to Pennsylvania and had a family.

George E. Welton of Akron, OH

According to a newspaper article in The Daily Review, Decatur Illinois, 15 Jun 1908, pg 1, George E. Welton used an alias when he married Orpha Williams in Christian County, Illinois in 1903. When George was arrested for drunkenness, a letter was found in his pocket from his father who signed his name as Welton. George had told police that his name was George E. Lewis so the state's attorney contacted the police in Akron to get the facts. Turns out that George had another wife and children living in Akron, OH when he married Orpha. He pleaded guilty to a charge of bigamy and was sentenced to the penitentiary (Decatur Daily Review, Decatur IL, 13 Oct 1908, pg 11.)

Hopefully, this puts a hole in a brick wall for someone that is looking for George E. Welton but didn't know that George was using an alias and where to find him. I am not related. I came across these articles while looking for the obituary of an old settler.
Happy hunting - Pam

Virginia Weltons

Hi, all... I am looking for any information on a Robert M. Welton who was born in (West) Virginia in 1838 (+/- 1 year or so..). I have looked through the John/Job/Felix, etc part of the tree quite a bit, but there is no mention of a Robert.

I know that in 1870 he was living in Iowa and married to a lady named "Sarah A." Welton, originally from Ohio (I do not know her maiden name, the 'A.' is as close as I could get.) Also, I know that he passed away sometime between 1870 and 1880. His birthplace of Virginia was revised in later censuses to West Virginia (Which isn't surprising because when he was born it hadn't been "invented" yet)

I also know he was eligible to vote, was fully literate, and that neither of his parents were of foreign birth. Added together with the Va/WVa location, as well as the timing, it really makes me think he was descended of John Welton from England who died in Hampshire Co., VA in 1767, but I have not been able to find any record of this.

If anyone has any knowledge on where I can look, or any information on Robert M. Welton, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you, Chris

Thanks for the response. I have all of the information that you have given me. I am trying to find out if Isaac was an only child? Who WERE his parents? I have looked in MA for the John R listed as his father and can find nothing.
I am trying to trace my roots from Isaac and beyond. I can find no siblings or who his parents' family are. His middle name Maguine is also listed as McGuin, which makes me think his mother was Irish? I don't believe this is a dead-end, but sure can't find out anything else. Which brand of Weltons' did Isaacs parents come fro and where have they gone!! Again, much thanks!

Linda, I am a liitle late, but here none the less! Anna Bell Welton was my great grandmother. Her father was Isaac Maguine Welton, married to Anna Elizabeth Leslie. I have no info as to where Isaac and Anna were born, lived, etc.
Do you have any info from that point back? Do you still need info from them forward..at least on the Anna Bell Welton and John Wesley Venink side? They were married on Nov 29, 1906 at Shell Rock, Ia in the C.H.McBride home..her sister. Are you related to the McBrides?
