Looking for info on Civil War veteran Jacob Wendle who served with Company D, 76th Pennsylvania Infantry. His stated age at enlistment in 1861 was 42. He died November 24, 1862 as a result of wounds received at the battle of Pocotaglio Bridge in South Carolina and is buried in the National Cemetery, Beaufort, Beaufort County, South Carolina. He was born in Germany, the son of Frederick Peter & Gertrude Wendel, and married widow Clara Anna Drent, nee Fuchs, April 26, 1847. Clara burned to death May 30, 1861. He lived in Heidelburg Township, York County at time of enlistment and worked as a farmer.
