Noticed your married name is Monaghan. I know many went to Louisiana from Ireland. My branch emigrating started out going to Canada, as I know as of now?
If you have any Monahan/Monaghan info and any connection with some ending up in East Canada would love to share and swap info. As my mother would profess, you did well, marrying a Monahan for they were very honorable and very involved with the church. She almost never came into existence for my grandfather came real close to becoming a priest! I guess on both sides my Irish clan had alot of nuns and priest. Unsure if birth order is why or the cause for such righteous people. We are definitely more earthy than heavenly souls so to speak now. Also my spouse family had branches in Texas, one died at Alamo. Summerlin. If you have any knowledge of Summerlin's from Texas via NC, GA, SC, FL, Ala well the south that would be great too! Hope I questions are not too greedy. The more I learn the more I need to know. Cancer recovery has me putting alot of time into this so excuse me making a pain in the tailbone. One day to have a pro give me the facts is a dream but not sure if even that will be enough to have me behaving like an adult instead of a 2 year old with all the why's that run through my brain.
Respectfully

Hello Carol, Yes my mom's name was Katheryn, but I think some people called her Kay. Unfortunately, both of my parents passed away in 2004. I have lot's of questions about my dad's family, as we moved to Florida in 1968 and we never saw my dad again. My dad stayed in Philadelphia and married a women named Jane and had a son with her, his name is Neil. Anything that you would like to share with me about my dad, Aubrey, would be great. I was only 4 the last time I saw him, and I have limited memories about him. Thanks for taking the time to answer my inquiry. I would love to hear from you again,
Juliette Wenger-Torres

I was friends with Aubrey and Kay in the 1960's and have been looking for them for a long time.
Thank you for your time to reply
I am the son of DuWayne Wenger and Dorine Kraus, and I have been on/off researching the Wenger and Kraus family trees for quite some time now. I will be going to my Grandmother's 90th birthday party soon (Marie Lucille McIntosh who Married Oscar Alfred Wenger son of John Wenger and Marie Witter), and I would love to add more to the Wenger family tree to discuss while I am there. The family I believe settled in the Argyle, WI area. If you have any information to share on the Wenger ancestry starting with Oscar and moving up, I would be more than happy to share with you an updated history moving downward.

Thank you for any information you can provide, and please let me know if there is anything that I can provide you.

Thank you,

Jamie Wenger

My Great-grandfather was Wilhelm (William) Wenger. He was born in
Burgestine, Switzerland in 1855. He married Maria Luisa Wittwer from Spiez,
Switzerland. They came to America in 1889. Their children were,
Wilhelmina, Ernst, Wilhelm, Alfred, Frieda, Franz, Hulda, Bertha, Emma,
Lora, Alma, Joseph, Wanda, Emil, William, and Erma and lived in Wisconsin.
I have a family tree and in the beginning pages of the book is an excerpt
from another book, "The Wenger Book, A Foundation Book of American Wengers"
by Samuel S. Wenger, Editor-in-Chief, published by the Pennsylvania German
Heritage History, Inc., Lancaster, PA, 1976 . I do not have a copy of said
book but would like to have one. The page taken from it states:
"The answer to the question, "Who are the Wengers?", is readily given.
The Wengers were Bernese Swiss. With a few exceptions, American Wengers can
trace their ancestors to the area of Bern, Switzerland, which is known as
the Upper Emmanthal, a region that is some twenty-five or more miles
northeast of the Jungfrau mountain peak. The original Swiss homeland of the
Wengers, let us say in the thirteenth century, may have been in the area
very close to the Jungfrau in the neighborhood of Wengen and Wengern Alp.
But, being a farming folk, they later settled around nearby towns to the
northeast like Eggiwil, where the Wenger name is still common.
"Until about the forteenth century famly names in Switzerland and south
Germany were not used. The Christian name was used, sometimes with a
designating addition regarding occupation, origin, or personal appearance,
for example, 'Lame Karl,,' 'Miller Hans,' etc. During the early forteenth
century family names began to appear; however, in many cases fixation was a
slow and irregular process. In Bern, family names were finally definetely
fixed in the early sixteenth century when parish records began to be kept.
"According to Mr. Kurz, the origin of the name Wenger is to be explained
as follows. In Switzerland are located a number of villages: Wang, Wangen,
Wangi, Wengi, and Wengen. These names originally had the same significance:
'wide-extended meadows.' In most cases these meadows are located on
hillsides. In early times, when a man moved from Wengi or Wengen he was
often calles Wenger at his new residence; in other words: the man from
Wengi or Wengen. Sometimes he was simply so designated, e.g., 'Uolrich of
Wengi,' and 'Christan of Wengen.'"

I hope this helps someone.
Hi,
I am very interested in this book as my father's family was named Wenger in Switzerland and changed to Winger when immigrated to USA. My great grandfather was, as many others, named Christian Wenger, b. 2/12/1852 or 4/7/1852, in Switzweland. He married Elizabeth Gertner/Gurtner on 8/28/1875 in Kirchenthurmen, Switzerland. She was born 3/1/1857. They had 5 children before coming to USA: Christ B., Rudolph (Rudy(, Charles, Elizabeth (Lizzy), Mary. They had 12, yes 12, more after coming to America. I can find no further info on them. If anyone can help me I'd be eternally grateful as I have been searching for many years and it's as if they never existed. By the way, the children born in the USA are:Mollie, Della,Fred, Louis, William, Frank, Ellen, all born in Indiana, and John, Anna, Albaert,Agnes and Bertha, all born in Wisconsin. All born between 1875 and 1902.

Rosena Wenger, Switzerland>Oregon, m. John Ritter

I'm searching for information on the origin & immigration of Rosena Wenger and family. She was born 25 Dec 1852/3 in Switzerland (exact location unknown), and census evidence says she came to the US with her parents in 1853. She married John Ritter and they lived in the Helvetia area of Washington County, Oregon - a settlement of Swiss immigrants. There are other Wengers living near the Ritters on the 1900 census who were enumerated to have emigrated from Switzerland in 1853: David (b. Nov 1857) & Christian (b. July 1866). Rosena's brothers? I haven't been able to locate any older Wengers nearby who could be the parents.

There is a posting on familysearch.org with a pedigree for a Rosina Wenger with the exact birthdate born in Hofen, Bern Switzerland. Parents are given as David Wenger & Susanna Linder. This work is not referenced and I have been unable to contact the creator.

Does this family sound familiar to anyone?

Her father was Wilhelm or William Wenger and her mother was Luisa Witwer. I have some information back to William's great-grandfather, Christian Wenger and wife, Anna Stutzmann. I am always interested in any information about the family.
Thank you,
Sandra Blauvelt

I was in an antique store and there was a picture with the name Elda Wenger on the back. The picture is a young girls (not a toddler) possibly 7 thru 9. She has on a dress with a dropped waist. I have a picture of my mother that was taken in 1912 and the dress is very similar. Her hair is about shoulder length and looks something like what we used to call "banana curls". There is a ribbon in the hair also. I would be willing to buy the picture (if it is still there) and send it to a direct descendant. Please email me if you are interested.

Thank you for your reply.

Joseph Wenger was my maternal grandfather, born in 1864 in Saint Louis. Your Ana may be a sister or cousin of Joseph's based on the birth dates.

Do you know the names of Ana's parents? Joseph's parents were John and Mary (stauffer) Wenger. I'm trying to find the link to Joseph's parents' generation and any information on siblings he might have had.

Joseph came to the US when he was 20 (by himself) and we have lost any information on his French family.

Thanks so much!

I am looking for information on Joseph Wenger born in Saint Louis, France in 1864 - a son of John and Mary (Stauffer) wenger. He came to US in 1884 when he was 20. We are looking for information relating to his french family. Did he have any siblings? Did any of them come to US, etc. I have also posted in the Alsace message board.

I have tried to search french geneaology websites but don't know french and keep getting confused and/or denied access. Any information would be much appreciated

Thank you

Hi Shirley,

I think you may be on the right track in that my Joseph and your Christian might be brothers.

I've attached the pic I spoke of. We were told by Annie Cunningham that this was of a family reunion of the Dauers, Schneiders and Wengers.

We can only identify three people. In the middle (seated) row, Annie tells us the first three people are Wengers, next is Mary (Pretoria) Schneider, Rose Dauer, William Dauer, last young woman is unknown.

Please let me know if you can identify any of these other people.

Look forward to hearing from you if you find any connection between Christian and Joseph.

Hello Fredric,

I've not had much chance to document my info on the Wengers.

My only Wenger info is for Joseph, Elizabeth Sherer and family who immigrated in 1853. How do think your Elizabeth Wenger figures into my genealogy?

I've been trying to get a list of info together to research when I go back to SLC. I didn't find any info on my last trip. I can't seem to narrow down where my Wengers come from. All I have is Bern, Switzerland. I have no info on which parish they come from.

I look forward to hearing from you regarding this link and am willing to share the info I have.

Sincerely,
Julie Dauer
Hello Fredric,

It would figure, I was in Salt Lake City six weeks ago doing some research on my DAUER line. I tried looking up info for the Wengers, but didn't have the parish info and didn't know where to begin to look for it.

I can't thank you enough for this info. Do you have access to this film? How many pages is Julius Billeter's research? I'd be happy to pay for your time and efforts if I could get a copy of his research?

If you can't, I understand. I will order it at our local FHC.

I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you again for this info, it's more than I could have gotten on my own. I would have had to go through every parish in Berne for this info. You've saved me years of research and I am in your debt.

Sincerely,
Julie Dauer

I recently received a portion of a book printed in 1898 which is a genealogical history of Wengers in Lebanon, Jefferson and Franklin Counties in Pennsylvania (some entries in Marshall Co.,IN). The book was authored by C. M. Wenger entitled, Martin Wenger and Catherine Studebaker. His earliest entry is Hans Wenger, originally from the "lower palentine" of the Rhine River. Anyone wishing to receive a Word doc. with 5 generations of these Wengers contact: DianneSlipkid@comcast.net.

Re: Wenger Geneology

My father's mother was a Wingard through what would appear now to be the Wenger line. He had a family story of native american blood and when he took a DNA test there was verification of Am. Indian genes in a modest amount. Our family story is that a Preacher Wingard married a native american woman. His family is traced back to Armstrong Co. Pa.

Susan Wenger born virginia 1846

I am looking for information on my great great grandmother, Susan Wenger. Her mother is Anna but I don't have a father's name. She was born in Virginia in 1846, lived in Indiana and Illinois. It was in Illinois in 1865 that she married Benjamin Franklin Clark. I also need parent names for him. The family ends up in Oregon. Susan has brothers named Joseph, Samuel M., Henry Benjamin, and William D. I don't think I have all the children as there are large breaks in the ages of the children.
