My great great grandmother was Gladys Welcome Werth Doan. She was born in Ashland, OR. Her father, Louis Werth was from Germany. Louis came to the US with some siblings and his father. The father of Louis was Willam or John Werth. Siblings of Louis Leonard Werth were: Chris Werth, Mathilda Hanna Werth, Fred Werth, William H Werth, Johanne Werth (stayed in Germany), Sophia von Werth, and August Werth. The mother of Louis Werth was Johanna Brackabaum, she stayed in Germany when part of the family immigrated to the US. When she arrived a few years later, her husband had remarried, so she went back to Germany.
The Werths were butchers and ranchers in the Oregon and Northern CA areas. If the names above sound familiar, please contact me at stanleycrafts@aol.com

My Werth ancestors didn't emigrate from Russia (I don't think...) but rather from Germany, as records have indicated so far. But they did settle in North Dakota. Maybe we have some connections:

My grandfather:
Ervin Allen Werth dob 20 Dec 1923 (North Dakota)
Ervin's father was Ernest Carl Werth dob 27 Feb 1894 (North Dakota) death 10 Nov 1961 (Milwaukee, WI)

Ernest parents were William Werth dob Apr 1860 (Germany-father Gustoph) & Augusta Stewart dob Sept 1859 (Germany)

Ervin's Mother was Anna (don't have maiden name) dob abt 1902 (North Dakota) death 27 Apr 1965 (Wauwatosa, WI)

Other information: Other siblings of Ernst Carl Werth: Paul, Louise, Della, Otto, Ida, John & Hermenia (or Wilheminna).

If this is your line as well, maybe we can share information! Although I don’t have much more than Ervin’s children and grandchildren, etc.

My family tree on ancestry.com is called “Villwock Family tree”.

Hope we have a connection!

Shelley (Werth) Villwock
shellejv@charter.net
Hi: Alas, I don't have the answsers for you, but wanted you to know that I am a Werth before my marriage and my ancestors came from Brandenberg, Germany to Sauk County, Wisconsin in 1867. I think that I will be going to Madison and Sauk later this summer for the first time to do some research on Werths and other of my surnames. I will keep your Thomas in mind when and if I do go.

I have listing of the births that were registered throughout Wisconsin, but they conclude before 1910. I can tell you that there were a ton of Werths in many areas of Wisconsin very early which was at first a surprise to me.

If you should find some of your ancestors in Sauk, then I think I can help you.

Have you written to the Records Dept. in Madison to find Thomas?

Let's keep in touch and should I go to Madison this summer, will keep your needs in mind.

Nancy (Werth) Benson

I just this minute sent you a note directly to your e-mail. I believe I found Adolph as a boy in the 1920 census. (See my separate e-mail).

I did other searches for Marian, Adolph, etc. but only found his SSDI information which you probably already have, i.e.
Adolph H. Werth, SSN 392-05-8272, residence: 54956 Neenah, Winnebago, WI, b. 5 Jul 1910, d. 25, Nov. 1993.

I believe you could check with county records and libraries and get Adolph's marriage information. Also, depending upon the library in Neenah, some of the library databases are on line and include obit information. My Sauk libraries tell me which obits they have and these obits have priceless information about other family ties.

Good luck.

Nancy

Test is a simple saliva test done at home and returned in the envelope mailed with the kit. I will pay for test. Diane

Werth and von Werth in OR

Aaron,

My line of Werth and von Werth settled in Ashland, OR in the late 1880s and 1890s. The Werth family immigrated to the US from probably Frankfurt, Germany probably in the 1880s. William or John Werth was the father, he was married to Johanna Brackabaum (she didnt come to the US, when she did she found her husband had married after he got to the US). Their kids were: Fred Werth, William or Billy Werth, Johanne (Female), Louis Werth, Mathilda, Sophia, Chris, and August. The father and Fred, Louis, Billy, Sophia came to the US. Mathilda came later, and Johanne married Ernest Ludwig and ended up in Canada. THe Werth family were butchers by trade. They left Germany, lied in Nebraska for awhile, Mathilda lived in PA for some time, then all but the father end up in Oregon/Calif. If any of this sounds familiar, please let me know. Thanks, Jana

We have been trying to find time to get together with my aunt in Edmonton Alberta Canada, to further research the Werth name. We know that my Grandfather had 4 brother's which fit into this time peiod, and that one was named Fredrick and that at least one settled on the plain states in the USA. Don't know if yours and ours are one and the same but if they are, I have a contact in Germany that has researched the Werth(Wearth, VonWerth) name back to the 1700's. Which I would pass along if it connects.

We will be trying to get up to Edmonton by at least the end of March.

While browsing I found your comments. I can't help you with a Fredrick, but I can help you with some possible connection for you to hook up: here goes:
Wilhelm Werth was born in @1850 and came to America in 1899 (and wife Barbara) from South Russia--I have a copy of the immigration papers- They settled in Hillsview SD for one year and then moved to south of Lehr ND.
Wilhelm and Barbara had four children:Christina Michta,William Werth-(This would be my grandfather)-John Werth and Mrs. Lydia Doerr. Wilhelm died April 28th 1919. Barbara Died May 27th 1934.
I have tons more of things from that point, but nothing from before. You made mention of something back to the 1700. Are you willing to share if you think there might be a possible connection? Thank you
Russ Werth (age 48-Teacher)
box 955 Bowman, North Dakota 58623
werthr@pop.ctctel.com

Glenn,

I am a novice at this, but I have been trying to find a link to Werths from Prussia. My g.g.Grandfather was named Fredrick Johan August Werth and was born March 28, 1850 in Woldenburg - which is now Dobiegniew, Poland. His wife was Auguste Albertine Ottilie Schultz who was born May 22, 1855. They moved to the Dakotas and then to Oregon. I haven't been able to go any further back. If this in any way connects with the infomation that you have please let me know. thanks.

WERTH OR VON WERTH

I am just starting my family tree search, but I have traced a line of Werths (Which was VonWearth) back to a country that was Basarabia pre WW1. Is is now refered to as Prussia. With the help of my 94 year old Aunt, Katherine Werth, whom was born there I have been given a list of names by her including a brother of my grandfather whose name was Anton and settled somewhere in the USA. Further to this, I have located, again with the help of my Aunt Kay, a relative in Prussia that has traced all of the Werth Family name in Europe to WW1 when they fled to Canada, USA and South America. Appearantly this list goes back to the time of Katherine the Great. I will be getting my Aunt to translate a letter in German to this gentleman (assuming he is still alive) or at least to a member of his family to get a copy of this record. Don't know if this will help with your search.

Glenn
The Louis Werth That I know was born in Minn. in the 1800's to Charles Werth and Augusta Schlinder from Germany, They had 11 Children, My Great grandfater was his brother William Otto Werth whom had 3 Children Harold, Lester Gustuv, and Mildred. William Otto married Amelia Emma Spars. They moved to Chicago before the children were born because all of them were born in Chicago. but all of 11 of of Charles and Augusta's were born in Minn. There are thousands of Werths out there. Harold is my grand father he married my grandmother Gladys Fay Botwright in West Frankfort, Illinois in 1933 and also had 3 children my mother is Marlene the eldest now deceased. They lived in Montana for a short while, then moved to Westmont, Illinois where William Otto Werth helped establish this now booming town. He passed away 1973. I am trying to find out who the father of Charles and Agusuta are I have to go to Germany I guess. They imagrated between 1873 and 1879 according to what records I have found. I hope this helps you. Also I found records that Louis may have been John Louis, or Louis John.
Sincerely,
Marlene Cohely
