I have a copy of a certificate of marriage issued by J.G. Anspach of Mifflinburg dated 19 April 1836 for Thomas Zerby(Zerbe) of West Buffalo and Sara Woerz (Wertz?) of East Buffalo. Who were Sara's parents? Was J.G. Anspach the minister of the First Lutheran Church of Mifflinburg? Are there baptismal/confirmation records available for his church?
Also, I'd like to connect with any ZERBE cousins.
Marilyn Brien brien@satx.rr.com
New Werts Familly Book

Since several people have asked me to keep them informed, I'm using this method to announce that my book, "Ancestors and Descendants of Jacob Henry Werts" is about to be published. Jacob descends from Peter Werts of Frederick County, Maryland, and Loudoun County, Virginia.I have stories on his ancestors, both the Werts line and their wives. Then, I have stories of all of his descendants down to 2007. The book has over 550 pages and 270 photos. As you might suspect, it has been a long time in work, so I'm excited to have it finally come to fruition!

Dave Werts

So sorry I picked up on this only today, instead of the date of your query of 2003. My grandmother was the first cousin of Bernice (Truitt) Wertz. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, Bernice and I corresponded several times. I am a Truitt family researcher. My grandmother was Harriet Dell (Truitt) Woolsey of Knox County, Illinois. Her father, Harvey J. Truitt, was a brother of Harriet's father, John Taylor Truitt. The Truitt family migrated from Ross County, Ohio to Knox County, IL between 1850 and 1859. I have much more than Bernice's letters to share.

Need confirmation - William C Wertz (b. 1814) m. Elizabeth Boor or Elizabeth Gibson???

I am perplexed and confused AGAIN!!! I need help to confirm a marriage between William C. Wertz b. 1814 and Elizabeth Boor or Elizabeth Gibson...here is my problem:

I have a record from Bedford County Biographies, Containing Life Sketches of Leading Citizens of Bedford and Somerset Co., PA, Boston. Biograhical Review Pub. Co., 1899 pps 227, 228; for William C. Wertz s/o John and Elizabeth (Williams) Wertz b. April 14, 1814 which clearly shows that William C. Wertz married Elizabeth Boor - as follows:

"On November, 3, 1839, Mr. Wertz married Elizabeth Boor, a daughter of Michael Boor, the descendant of a pioneer settler of Cumberland Valley Township. They have reared six children, as follows: Mary J., wife of John A. Beegle: Melvina: Scott A.,: Amanda E., wife of M. B. Smith; Ann C., wife of W.S. Oster; Rachel E., Scott A. Wertz, the only son, was born July 6, 1845, on the home farm, which he is now conducting in a thorough and skillful manner, employing the most approved modern methods and machinery. Nor is this all; he gives a part of his interest to the cultivation of about thirty-eight acres of his own. Energetic, practical, and possessing much business ability, he takes a deep interest in matters pertaining to the welfare of town, which he has served one term as Assessor. He is an active member of the Lutheran Church, of which he has been the treasurer and is at the present time a Deacon. Of his union with Rachel Smith, late of Bedford County, Pennsylvania, one son has been born; namely, William W. Wertz."

My problem is that I am finding Family Trees on ancestry.com that are showing William C. Wertz with the same birth date and the same parents having married an Elizabeth Gibson...

Can anyone help to clear up the problem for me??? Any and all help appreciated!!!

Madeline,

I'm sorry I can't help you. She is not part of my family. I just buy old photos that have names on them when I see them when I'm out. It's a shame for them to just lay around on a table when they were loved at one time by a family. Perhaps someone on your husband's side would know?

Nikki

I am the granddaughter of Dale Ivory Wertz, he is the brother to Mary Wertz who married Charles Kisaberth. I am working my way back in the tree gathering information on my grandfather's siblings. Any information you could give me would be appreciated. We are having a family reunion in July 2009 in Ohio and would like to extend this invitation to these families. Thank you for your help. Bonnie Schube
