Longtime Tuolumne resident Helen D. Wessell died Friday at a Sonora hospital. She was 86.
She was born in Jackson and had lived in Tuolumne for 36 years. She worked as a janitor for an American Indian dental clinic and was a member of the Tuolumne Band of Me-Wuk Indians.
She is survived by her brothers, Richard and Alfred Maldonado, both of Sacramento; sisters, Carrie Hader and Norma Sepeda, both of Sacramento, and Bertha Daniels McKean of Wilton, Sacramento County; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Luna Wessell, in 1985; brothers, Manuel Maldonado and Benjamen Maldonado; and sisters, Pearl Carter and Juanita Maldonado.
A service is scheduled from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 9, at the Tuolumne Tribal Hall.
