West Family Reunion in Virginia during October 2008
All West Family member are invited to attend the West Family Reunion in Alexandria/Fairfax County on the weekend of October 9-12, 2008. Below is the schedule for this year's reunion activities. If you haven't already made plans to attend, please do so as there are many new cousins coming this year to meet. I will be posting more this
summer. I hope to see you in October.

Thursday evening October 9, 2004
We will plan a get together in the evening (probably at the hotel to
go over the weekend activities and to talk about the recent
discoveries, especially in DNA since our last reunion).
Friday October 10, 2004
8:00 am – Leave hotel
8:15–9:00 - Visit site of Major John West Colonial Estate of "West
Grove" site of Col. John West home. We will be discussing a lot of
information about Major John West and his son Col. John West.
9:30–10:30 – Visit Alexandria Archeology Museum (Alexandria
Archaeologist Pamela Cressy will tell us about the West Family tomb
discovery and events relating to this discovery in 1999-2000).
10:30 – 11:15 – Visit Founders Park including "West Point" and other
West Family sites in Old town Alexandria.
11:30 – 12:30 – Visit the John and Sarah (West) Carlyle House. Sarah
West was the daughter of Hugh West. (We will have a special tour)
12:30 – 1:30 – Eat Lunch in Old Town Alexandria
2::30 – 4:00 – Visit Alexandria's Christ Church (The West Family was
most instrumental in the founding of Christ Church).
4:30 – 5:00 Visit site of West Family Cemetery (site of West Tomb
discovery in 2000).
5:00 – Return to Hotel (evening free as of now) maybe a Memorial time
planned to remember West Family historian Donal West or discussion of
Donal and events of the day.

Bus Tour
8:30 – Leave Hotel
8:40 – Visit site of Thomas and Sarah West (presumed parents of Thomas
West whom married Sarah Trammell) Northern Neck Land Grant. Also
visit site of Major John West "West – Harrison Grant"
8:50 – Visit Pohick (2nd Truro Parish Church) Episcopal Church and
Cemetery (view West Family Memorial)
9:30 – Visit site of original Pohick Church and Cemetery (1st Truro
Parish Church).
9:45 – Visit Colchester (site of the Glassford Store and Tobacco
Warehouse). Much of the Fairfax, Reid, Simpson, and Thomas West
Family sold their tobacco at Colchester. George West surveyed the town.
10:15 – Visit colonial home sites of James Edwards, Absolom Reid, and
Thomas and Sarah (Trammell)
West families.
10:45 – Visit site of Colonial Wolf Shoals Road, Henderson Rd. (Visit
Woodyard Family Cemetery)
11:00 – Visit colonial home sites of Fairfax Family including Fairfax
Family Cemetery and Bacon Race
Cemetery where many Fairfaxes', Woodyards', Reids', and Simpsons' are
buried. Also Simpson
cemetery.
11:45 – 1:00 – Lunch
1:45 – 2:15 – Visit site of historic West's Ordinary (land owned by
William West of Fairfax/Loudoun County)
2:45 – Visit to historic Leesburg founded by William West
4:30 – Return to Hotel (evening free)
Sunday October 12, 2004
Colonial Church Services and Farewell Breakfast/Brunch
I would recommend flying out on Monday and use Sunday to visit either
Mt. Vernon the home of George Washington (a good friend of the West)
or Gunston Hall, the home of George Mason (a good friend of the West)
or visit Washington DC.
There will be a fee for transportation which will be split up evenly
by participants during the reunion. It is estimated that the
transportation cost will be between $50 - $75.
Finally, to make room reservations, you should call 1-800-321-2211
(Marriott reservations)
or call locally 703-329-2323. Be sure to reference the "West Family
Reunion Block" to get the discounted rates of:
