My records show Edwards wife's name was Elena Hellesvig, although I also found it spelled Alena. Spelled in Norwegian fashion -- Even Olsen and his wife Mari Kristoffersdtr lived on a Vestby farm in Gjerdrum, Akershus, Norway at the time of the 1865 Norwegian census.

I have alot more on these families.

They are all children of Ole Haraldsen and his wife Anne Amundsdatter Honsi.

When their children came to the US most if not all used the name Westby (Vestbye in Norwegian) to identify where they came from.

Biography: Peder J. Westby

PEDER J. WESTBY
was born in Sand, Nordre Odalen, Norway on 13 July 1861. He came to Kinloss Township in 1889 and worked on a farm. In 1890 he bought the claim on Section 22 fra Gulbrand Norby. He then sent for his family, the former Inga Westlie whom he married in Norway 6 Jan 1885. They had three children: Mary, Martha and Ingolf. He farmed in Kinloss Township until 1919 when he moved to Silverton, Oregon with his wife and Selma and Mary. They family grew until they had eleven children, four boys and seven girls. Mary, Martha, Agnes, Selma, Ingolf and Peter are all deceased. The remaining members of the family are Einar, Jacob, Hannah, Ida and Mary.

Peder Westby and his wife were charter members of the Silvesta Congregation in Fairdale and in Silverton, Oregon, they were members of the St John's Lutheran Church. Peder Westby died Aug 30, 1939. Inga Westby died Dec 31, 1945.

Peder Westby was the son of Jacob and Martha Westby and they came to Kinloss Township a little later. They had eighty acres close to Julius Westby's place. Besides Peder Westby, there were Julius, Jacob and Theodore, who came to this country. One brother, Ole, remained in Norway. Three sisters: Matia, Karen, Mary and Oline remained in Norway and they never saw each other again.

Inga Westby had four brothers: Peder and Andrew Erickson, and Martin and Hans, all homesteaders. They all took the name Erickson, while mother went by the name of Westlie.

Raymond Westby, son of Einar and Rose mathiason Westby, and Eva Krom, were married in Nekoma, ND on 11 Nov 1952. Joseph and Anna Krom Moore, brother and sister of the bride, were their attendants.

To this union six children were born. Mary, who works in Minneapolis, MN; Bruce, employed on a farm; Dennis and Shirley, employed in Grand Forks; Roger, employed at home; Lori, at home and attending school.

My Grandmather was one of 12 children Anders Kloster had with his first wife. He then had two children, Ellen and Madel, with your Great-grandmother. My Grandmother and Ellen married brothers, Simon and Ragnvald Westby. I have been told that there was a son with the name Blixhavn that was not treated very well by Anders Kloster but that he moved to Canada and was quite successful. Is that correct? My Great Grandmother Marta's second marriage was to Anders Kloster and they had a daughter Ellen who married a Westby. The Klosters lived in North Dakota, not sure where Ellen and her husband went after they were married. Do any of these names match what you have?

I don't know his father's parent's names, but I do remember Grandpa saying they came on a boat from Norway and he had at least one older brother, but his name I don't know, either. Don't know if we can help each other or not, the Ole Westbys I have were born in 1830 and his son in 1873. If this was Ole was to be the father of your Adolf he would have only been 14 years old. Not impossible! But I don't have any information yet as to any brothers of the older Westby who might also have had children. The search continues.... if I come up with anything I'll let you know. I am searching for information on ADOLPH OLE WESTBY, b. May 19, 1887, in Cumberland, Wisconsin. It is believed that his father immigrated from Norway. Given Scandinavian naming traitions, I suspect that his father's first name may have been "OLE."

Prior to 1914, Adolph was married to BERTHA (whose maiden name may have been "Kerr").
Sometime between 1890-1930, Adolph moved Washington state, where he died in 1959.

I would love to hear from anyone with possible conections to this family.

Have just learned U. B. and "Zurala" were the same person. "Zurala" should be Urzula/Ursula... Ursula's husband was "Lewis" Westby. He evidently passed away before 1920. Anyway, I still am looking for info on the two and their family....

Am looking for anything on Maria Westby. Known by family as Marie. She married Emanuel Magnus "Emil" Swanson. Do not know where Marie was born or when. She and Emil had 2 children, Ellen Emily, b. Aug 12, 1895 and Oscar Edward Swanson, b. Dec 12, 1898. Emil was born in Malmo, Sweden, Feb 23, 1886. The family lived in St Paul, Minnesota when Marie died in 1899/1900. Perhaps if you backtrack through the information you do have on John Robert Westby by birth records or census records you could get his parents names.
